As soon as I saw those spark plugs and their wires laying up on top of the engine while it was running, I just knew he was gonna ride the lightning. And sure enough....He delivered! How was it? Meeting Zeus?
@@nZoot Mine was like 17 years ago, we had an old Kadett or a Daewoo Nexia at the shop and it had the coil mounted right beside the driver's fender. Guess who leaned over said fender with a slighty damp sweater while the car was running... 😅 It gives a shock, but it's not "that bad". Don't recommend it though. 😂
Anybody else think patching that floppy poly bumper with rigid fiberglass will be a problem either in normal flexing, sun heat air etc or certainly with parking curbs ?
@@justinp2993 No, (as it’s obviously much lower than sensible) I think it will be constantly hitting high kerbs and various un observed obstacles regularly as a working truck, so I definitely wouldn’t waste my money replacing it with a new one each time..
I think he channelled Medhi/Electroboom for a moment. He's lucky, a modern spark system can kill you very easily, they are that powerful. It's not like the old coil and points and even they hurt badly enough.
A trick that I use to paint valve covers with letters or designs is to dab a little bit of grease on the face of what you don't want painted and after the paint cures you can take a rag and wipe away the paint. No sanding required and if you are careful enough the result yields a line sharper than a tape edge.
Also grease is fantastic for carburetor gaskets!! If you're working on older cars and find yourself removing carbs often, or on boats - it happens, a little grease slathered on the carb gaskets makes them last forever and they don't break or stick when you have to remove them!! Grease is a good thing!!
The fuel injection machine is interesting. Back in the day, we made a fuel injection tool using a tire valve stem, a power source and a can of fuel injection cleaner. Many times I found an injector with a poor spray pattern. A couple times, the injector would not create a cone shaped fuel pattern and had to be replaced. Yeah, it sucks to pull each injector but it eliminated any guessing games. Grear work on the truck Sam. I am enjoying this project.
Excited for the video series on this truck! Always enjoy your videos in general. You're the last guy showing people how to get creative on fixing things ourselves, and your mix of vehicles keeps things interesting.
This engine is very old tech. Those injectors hardly need cleaning unless the car sat for yrs. Avoid high mileage direct injection engines on a lot of todays cars, cleaning out the injectors and valves can cost you thousands from previous owners neglect
Nice to see that even a seasoned pro can forget and grab the ht leads, brought a smile to my lips what is wrong with us humans when we smile when someone else is feeling the pain, nice post Sam
Content is so enjoyable, the commentary and personality/filming. And the struggles fixing up these cars. Makes me want to get out and do something amazing. Love it. ❤ Really appreciate it.
I just did similar to this for my mot in UK. Diesel emmisions were 7.1 . Limit is 1.5 . Did a service an when I replaced the fuel filter I backnfilled the filter with injector cleaner . Took a few turns of the ket to fire up . Left it running 20 seconds then left overnight. The injector cleaner sat in the injectors overnight . Ran it to temp next day Emmisions went down to 0.30 from 7.1 . Passed easy
Totally been shocked by spark plug wire before and that is a feeling you never forget. I too was in anticipation of Sam getting shocked when I saw him unplug a wire with the engine on
Depends on where and what. The gm dealership what you did in the video is what we did at the dealership. Gm had its own fuel injector cleaner but most the time I used BG fuel injector cleaner. Firestone uses a small drip through a vaccume port, one independent shop used a fogger in front of the throttle blades. BG was the most common.
Hi Sam. I enjoy your channel. I do suggest you solder any hand-crimped electrical cable to its terminal. This is standard practice in the Auto industry and ensures a much more durable crimp both electrically and mechanically. that V-10 sounds great.
Thanks for supporting Standard Motor Products! I’ve worked for them for 14+ years. Great company to work for full or gearheads. We appreciate your business.
I've always used in the tank fuel injection cleaner before winter and a battery check... anyway you're doing all the things to completely deep service. great job 😃👍
You’ve done it again! This is the type of content I enjoy. Saving vehicles that deserve a better life. No scarp yard or used car lot (presumably to be sold in to someone who only makes it worse in most cases). Saving the ones that need saving! I got one for you, a P38 Range Rover that’s needs a rescue. I have been considering it myself but it may be too rich for my blood. I saw prices online for good examples and think the 3k buy in may not be to bad since it’s running and driving. It’s already got a coil spring conversation. Hmmm.. sorry lots track of my thoughts. lol. You, John (JR), Tavarish, and Hoovie are my mainstays in RU-vid. Thanks for what you do!
Hi Sam I want that truck in my life ❤ I’d say your way straight to the injector is definitely a better way of cleaning rather than pouring the solution into the tank, keep the videos coming
Pouring in the tank works fine. But my car took 1almost six months of treatments every fill up to 100% clean my injectors. I used a wide variety of cleaners. Mostly Redline and Techron. But also Chemtool.
Ah come on man, we all need to pay the bills and it’s not like every one of his videos is an add from beginning to end. You can even skip the ad part most of the time.
It's better take the injectors out to check the spray pattern and replace the O-rings as well. I experienced that concentrated cleaner attacks the O-rings and they should be replaced based on age anyway.
Sir, This has been amazing watching you bring cars back from the dead. I would keep it. Unfortunately I don't have a car or truck and watch you bring them back to life. Thank you
Please tell Zach he needs to wear a respirator when grinding fiberglass, and should cover all exposed skin when spraying 2K clearcoat (a full tyvek suit).
Dealer fuel induction cleaning service is usually a treatment for the fuel tank, the injector service like you just did and a throttle body upper plenum cleaning with a machine similar to the fuel injector machine, but that one has a fine mist nozzle that sprays a cleaner through the throttle body while its running. The dealers ive worked at used bg products (some of the best products on the market imo).
That container to clean the injectors works great as a fuel pump as well . My friend Escalade has a bad fuel pump and this could be the solution to move it around.
Dealers and indy shops use BG products air/fuel induction service. It works not only through the fuel system but also through the vacuum system to clean the backs of valves and the intake ports. Works pretty well between walnut blasts on direct injection engines.
I work on these trucks a lot and I’d recommend also replacing the power steering lines that go from the pump to the fan and the fan to the steering rack. They are known to leak and pop. JTSVP sells them and I assume that’s where you got the oil lines as well.
Very good Sam love that truck man been watching you for several years now sam just as long as I been watching rich builds, auto auction rebuilds, v tuned, goonzgusd, tavarish, vice grip garage, it's what I've done for many years now you need to think of making your self a big nice garage your self Sam so you can store all these cars you have all over your field man store them up and cover them up and you can have actually a bigger place to work on your car's indoors then a stable 😅lol, i like your videos man keep rolling them out bro piece!. 👌👊👍👍
I have used the repair boots before on a car. I had a car that had headers and I needed five straight boots and three angled boots to clear the headers. So I bought a straight boot set and bought three angle repair boot 👍🏻 Truck is getting there.
I worked as a cook at a Bob's Big Boy back in 77, I was 17, and picked up a 220 volt toaster from the inside. It knocked me back 3 feet into the fridges, stupid kids! 😁👍😎✌🗽
As a tech at a reputable shop that works on all makes n modles, i can definitely say when we sell a fuel injector cleaner, or intake cleaner we use a similar system from BG to perform the service. I cant speak for other shops but we atleast do it the right way
It only costs a couple of hundred for an on-site fuel injector service in Australia. New mesh filter's, o-rings and an ultrasonic bath till they all flow equal. Turn the key off when it starts missing, letting any motor lean knock to submission is cruel.
I was taught to service/clean the injectors with a hot motor and then giver her hell after the clean is complete to help break off the crud that didn't come off. Not sure if it's true or not but that's how I've always done it
Those plug wire ends have a special crimper that msd also has. Your pliers crimp might be ok now but will pull out after those ends have been on the plugs for a bit. Frankly the way those plug wire looked it might not have been a bad idea to get new ones.
I would feel a little uneasy about this way of cleaning fuel injectors. They still could be not working correctly and you wouldn't know. I guess it's ok when they just need a clean, but if they were blocked or stuck open I'd feel much better when they were taken out and put in a testing rig were you could be sure of their flow and correct function.
I’d have rather run a bottle of Lucas oil injector cleaner with a half tank of gas it’s not as diluted as a full tank and it still works fine on a full tank it’s always worked for me.
You can clean fuel injectors by simply running the gas down to less than a quarter tank, dump a couple of bottles of injector cleaner into the tank and run the engine on that highly concentrated mixture.
If the fuel system has a return to the tank, are you not just pushing most of the fuel cleaner into the tank rather than through the injectors? Do they have anything to prevent that or are you relying on using less air pressure than the normal pressure at the rail to prevent the regulator from opening? I generally ultrasonic clean them with a little tool that pulses the injector. Glad to see it's been a relatively easy fix.
Professional fuel injector cleaning involves removing the injectors, soaking in an ultrasonic cleaner, and then a back flush. Some injectors also have screens inside that get replaced. The injectors are then flow tested on a special machine such as an ASNU. Also it is worth mentioning, do not unplug the HT leads while the engine is running. The spark could backfire into the ECM and destroy it. Unplug the injectors instead to do a drop test.
C5 corvettes are extremely Notorious for having a bad oil pressure sensor. To replace it you have to take off the intake manifold it takes about an hour to do the job and I’ve done it twice with my old c5
GoPro sub gets a warranty on your camera and unlimited cloud space. I have gotten my gopro replace before after a 5 story fumble. Gopro sub is actually pretty good for the price.
18:03 at the dealership I work at the the induction services we do is a fuel injection service exactly like you did, then we do a intake cleaner from the throttle body, and also dump a fuel line cleaner in the tank
Bro, you got lucky grabbing at that plug like that, I made the same mistake with a Honda CR-V and it killed the main relay assembly, the coil, and the ignition control module. I lost a lot of money on that job, but i learned a valuable lesson to make sure I don't work tired or distracted, because mistakes can be expensive AF.
I work at Lexus, I don't recommend doing fuel induction services for N/A engine. You gasoline actually cleans your valve and cyclinder head. It's a scam period. If you have a turbocharger or supercharger engine then yes do a fuel induction services because of the extra air coming in. Great job Sam on the fuel induction cleaning.
Sam, I am a service writer at a repair shop. We are a BG service dealer. I can tell you from having to take training to sell BG products that the BG fuel induction service is very very different than what you just did the mechanics are the same however the chemicals are vastly different. And the additive that’s put in the gas tank. Also continues to keep the system clean and BG backs all of this with a warranty up to $4000 of repair money if anything should go wrong with the various systems that their products are used in the engine transmission and AC system. There is actually a difference at least with BG products there is.
Thing is with that method of injector cleaning, most of the cleaner will end up back in the tank if the fuel rail returns to the tank. Still better than just putting it in the tank imo tho
Hopefully you clear coated those valve covers because the aluminum will corrode if left raw. Did the same thing on a Beretta GT 2.8, looked good for a few weeks without clear.
I use a fuel additive a few times a year on both of my cars to keep the fuel system clean.. I never had any issue, and never allow the dealer to sell me that service.
Nothing will replace taking the injectors out and putting them in flowmeter/injector cleaner. It's a wild guess how dirty the injectors were and how effective the cleaning unit you used was.
Zach does some great work, but always cracks me up to see him working in those crocs! So dangerous to work on cars in those things! I know it's hot I grew up in Tampa but for real!
The injector cleaner is pretty much the same system a dealer will use although his may use pressurised cans of cleaner instead of air and will clip directly into the system. While not as good as pulling injectors and running thru a full test and clean cycle (Vevor have all that gear as well) it is considerably better than just adding some to the tank. I love Vevor, decent tools (not SnapOn grade but they do the job they say they will), huge range, prompt (and free) delivery, good after-sales service and warranty claims are smooth with no argument. I have probably 40 plus products of theirs from ultrasonic cleaners, speciality mechanical tools and workshop equipment to my inflatable spray booth, pumps, catering equipment and other stuff. *please note folks, when I'm talking free delivery and the quality of service/warranty I'm talking about the Australian warehouse, your mileage may differ.
