I’m very anxious internally but don’t act on these feelings. When I see my avoidant boyfriend becoming avoidant I match his energy and won’t call or text until he does. He then gets on me for not reaching out. I don’t know what my attachment style is

Would you mind talking about the ambivalent component of anxious attachment in one of your next videos?

About the algorithm complaints: 10000%. And you can't tell those men anything either, they'll lash out at you. SO angry.

I don't even know what my attachment style is because I've literally been all of them but anxious was the one where when looking back I cannot help looking for myself. I always wonder where was I? Tons of feelings I remember yea, mostly despair but I seemed to have no sense of self, no image of me. So much emphasis was put on the other person, he was put on a pedestal and then became such a villain in my eyes 🙈 but I was nowhere to been seen in that whole story.

Hi Ken, thanks a lot for this video 😊 I'm anxious and I didn't know that also the concern of my finances is actually a part of my attachment style. I mean I feel safe when I know what's going on with my finances 😅

Is there a clear delineation as to anxious attacher vs fearful avoidant, specifically in regards to deactivation and self-sabotage as soon as a healthy relationship is starting to form? Wouldn't both an FA and Anxious attacher both lovebomb, and then deactivate/self-sabotage as soon as they catch feelings and/or the relationship starts to "get real." How to tell the two apart?

lol I was ahead of myself. I think the moment at 58:10 answers this. Edit: Okay, after thinking about this more. I think the question still kind of stands. Both anxious and fearful avoidants can have huge moments of self-doubt and self-sabotage relationships as they are forming, based on the idea that they are not lovable/the other person can do better/etc. Is this just the fearful avoidant tapping into their anxious side when this happens or is there clear delineation when an FA pulls back/self-sabotages vs when an anxious attacher does exactly the same?

I'm definitely avoidant, but I relate a lot to this video (and what you have described)

Ken, absolutely love your content, it has helped me more than you know. Could you do a video on Fearful Avoidants? Was dumped by one after 8 years, it’s been 5 months since the breakup and it’s been the most confusing, painful emotionally tumultuous time of my entire life. I also think he was a sex addict 😐 Wondering if this is common for these folks…

It's not uncommon. It turns out that those who have sexual compulsion, regardless of attachment, are extremely problematic in a relationship. It's something very serious and a way of dealing with trauma -- very common being sexual abuse in childhood or adolescence. I repeat, it's not about sex, it's about trauma. Also, the tendency to cheat is great. These people need psychotherapy for many years. Their fight is very difficult! Ken has FAs videos.

@@Loversinadangeroustime There are people who romanticize sex addiction. This is a trauma response. It's not sex, it's emotional pain and despair. The obsession is so great that the person needs to do the act to get relief. But the obsession doesn't end and the person restarts the cycle. Very common sexually transmitted diseases and insane risk of getting HIV. Some people don't even know they are compulsive, they just think they have high libido. Compulsion is when sex/food/games starts to interfere in the way of your life, your daily life. Many teenagers, who are still emotionally immature to deal with sex, start with pornography. Some anxiety and relief with pornography. Sex begins to be an emotional crutch.

I am more confused about the difference between anxious and avoidants now.
@sunbeam9222
@sunbeam9222 Месяц назад
Both insecure attachment styles. Both unavailable. Both carry a nervous system that is not adapted to a healthy relationship. The way their insecurities and defense mechanisms display are different that's all, imo.

Two sides of the same maladaptive sward of an unhealthy upbringing. Both types are just trying to function without the necessary programming

I'm really confused now. I swore I was FA, but all of this vid rang trie for me. Is this typical seeing I have the anxious side, also?
@Curiousmind7777
@Curiousmind7777 Месяц назад
Fearful avoidant is usually a combination of anxious and avoidant. And attachment styles are dynamic. We’re not usually just one fixed attachment type all the time. One does dominate but it’s not uncommon to move between other insecure attachment styles
