I fell in LOVE with the Babys in the 8th grade, '79. I was listening to the Head First album just the other day as I washed dishes. They didn't actually write this song, but it's a great pop tune. Much of their other music is a bit more rockin'. Lead sing John Waite went on to more success in the 80's as a solo act, and then as the lead singer for the band, Bad English. He's one of my top 5 rock and roll singers. Just an amazing voice. He can go from velvet soft to rasp in a heartbeat.
The Babys may be one of the most misunderstood bands ever because they only had 2 radio hits in America and they were adult contemporary songs, Isn’t It Time and Every Time I Think Of You, but the Baby’s were a versatile heavy, dark, powerful, excellent rock band. Let’s say you enjoy the soft stuff, then check out a song like, You (Got It)…. Let’s say you prefer rock music, then check out the songs Run To Mexico, Head First, Give Me Your Love (studio versions always)
Just saw him (again) last week (July 2023) in NYC. He still got the voice, still got the moves. He did this with bass, guitars, and drums--no backup singers, no orchestra--and it still rocked the house.
John waite and the Babys are one of my favorites....what a shame that there music has been lost and not enough people know there catalog...just imagine if they would have stayed together...Jonathan Cain maybe never goes to Journey...who know what songs they would have created
John Waite is still performing and still sounds great. From the Baby’s ISN’T IT TIME , from his solo career MISSING YOU and super group Bad English When I See You Smile are my favorites 😊
Great British band from the late '70s and John Waite has a wonderful voice. What Anne Bertucci is wearing is mystifying as well to me, Harri. LOL. Thanks Robert and Harri.
From 1978, this was from their third album, "Head First". It was a world wide hit and their last top 20 song in the US. A wonderful collaboration with John and the backup singers. His vocals are wonderful and so full of emotion. The instruments so catchy with beautiful strings and horns. Great reaction Harri, got you groovin. Thanks Harri and Robert. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
John Waite is terrific! Just wondering if you recognized Jonathan Cain (Journey keyboard player) in that picture. He, along with other Journey members Neal Schon and Deen Castronovo went on to play in band Bad English with John Waite. You should check out some of their songs also. Thanks
I never heard of this group or this song. This is amazing music and I don’t know how I missed it. My eyes and ears are wide open now. Thanks to Robert for this request. As always, Harri’s enthusiasm is very inspiring. 🌺✌️
One of the very greatest voices of my generation! 'Give Me Your Love' has him singing more traditional heavy Blues (Led Zep-ish) and really gives a chance to hear the excellent guitar player and drummer this band had and it's one of their best! Great reaction. Waite's voice grabbed me instantly the first time I heard them (I think it was on American Band Stand?-or on radio), like hearing Brian May's guitar for the first time in 'Killer Queen. -Absolutely unique!
Johnathon Cain, playing keyboards, left the Babys and replaced Ross Valory in Journey and is still with them today. Multi-talented. And what's crazy is John Waite worked with Neil Schon, guitarist for Journey, in Bad English, I believe.
In this video it shows the Lead back-up singer as Anne Bertucci. On the original recording, which this is dubbed over to look live, the Lead back-up singer was Myrna Matthews, an African-American that did many backing vocals for other artists as well as TV and movies. Matthews and 3 others were known as the Babettes. Why they chose to use a White girl is a mystery.
I don't know which came first, this song or their other hit "Isn't It Time". But I'd swear I'm listening to the same song. Of course, I'm being a little sarcastic, but I figure they thought, "Hey, if it works once, we may as well make a couple of tweaks, change the lyrics, and put it out again." LOL But I do love this song, especially the ending when they start rocking out.
Well this is my first time seeing anyone react to the Baby's and especially this song by John Waite which is one of the best vocalist ever in my opinion.
This is a major fave for me and I learned something new. In the video they showed the band members and Johnathan Cain was in the band. He’s the keyboardist for Journey.
John Waite has a phenomenal voice and The Babys were I think an underrated group. Isn't it wonderful though, discovering music that has sort of been forgotten? Here's a contemporary group from Spain who I think you might find interesting. Broken Peach --- Tainted Love ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q45yicposyI.html&ab_channel=BrokenPeach
The clothes the female singer wore even distracts me a bit, and I've seen this many times. She has a plastic red heart pin on her top. Little pins like that were common back then. She also has a stretchy top that women wore back in those days. That's when everyone was wearing workout clothes with tight pants and tops. It's crazy how her little red heart pin can be distracting at times. I thought it was just me, lol. But it's okay. Now you know what it is.
