This is why I play with Declared Intent. "I am moving this model here, my intent is to try and not be seen when you move, can you mark your furthest movement please?" "I am moving here, I am planning on using the grenade strat then charging"

Had a game the other day, my opponent and I made several mistakes with forgetting rules etc. We let each other do take backs, re-rolls etc we even said "If you do that, I can do this..." It was a very close game all the way through & one of the most enjoyable games I've played in ages, even though I lost...

As a fairly new player I just ask what there army’s shtick is. For the most part everyone has been good at giving me a breakdown of what there detachment/units do and how they play, but as you say, all the information you could want to know about an army is easily searchable.

Okay, WOW, i just discovered this channel and now is my FAVOURITE 40k tactics one :D Keep them comming!!! As for intent, i try to alvays voice my intent when playing and also i have a tendency of saying all of my army gatcha moments and constantly reminding my opponent about them during play "hey remember if you do this i can react with this". I would love to see various game formats covered here (etc, gw, wtc and all of that). Youve earned a subscriber and a supporter my friend :)

About formats, it drives me mad and makes me avoid tournaments because here in poland all major events are purely focused on playing WTC scoring and table layouts (this means no mayter where you go you always play on exact 6 table layouts set up in exackly the same way), i heard in eu most people tend to play wtc, but in uk the standard for tables and scoring is different, and in america its different again. Games workshop rules count points from the game to determine the winner, wtc on the other hand converts game points into wtc score (20-0) which is also different and rewards different way of playing, and so fsr i havent seen anyone do such analysys.

Start of the game I tend to ask what their enhancements, stratagems and army rule do, and I clarify weapon choices on units (plasma or bolter inceptors?). The rest I ask as a relevant part of the game comes around - so on the attacker/defender roll off, if I win I ask about units with infiltration or scouting rules. As they deploy a unit, I might ask about gun range if I’m unsure. I also ask them what their intent is when they finish moving a unit and I clarify my own on my moves.

I agree with you on a lot of things. This is the reason why we should play different types of armies against because sometimes you don't know what they're special rules are that detachments there stratagems. On casual play you can be a little kg and try new things. But if you're looking to go to a tournament and perform well I got it you know no one wants to go to a tournament and lose all the games. But play an army and units you understand and pay attention to what other armies can do as more and more codecs come out for these armies it's going to be confusing could you going to have several different attachments and they're going to have different enhancements and stratagems. And if someone pulls out a strategy you didn't know about won't get mad about it learn from your mistakes Don't argue that that's too powerful or to sneaky. The only issue I have with all the stratagems and stuff that you find only in the books is that you're hoping the player that you're playing against is doing it right I played against somebody who was playing old rules that were an addition or two older but still playing them like it was still there and I called them out on like three things in a game going that's how it works and the only reason why that happened is because I went into the shop and opened up the book and read it.
@incursiontactics
@incursiontactics 2 месяца назад
Yep. It's amazing how much lag there is with knowledge of rules and strats. I have experienced similar things where people just remember things wrong or dont take the time to check. It certainly doesn't make things easier haha

I’m not a huge fan of the example. It’s one thing to make sloppy moves where you overextend your units and didn’t check distance or LOS. I think the problem is much worse when you apply all the out of phase nonsense we have now. It’s totally different imo if you expose a unit to take a shot or something and they say “ok I’m going to spend one cp to teleport away/make myself untargetable/etc” now your exposed your unit for nothing and I’m going to pick it up. These are the gotcha moments I think are worth talking about when talking about take backs and intent.
@incursiontactics
@incursiontactics 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the comment. That is a great point. What i will say is that context is important in every scenario and what you describe is a whole different thing, yes. But you could apply the same logic in my video to that situation. Ask questions, confirm if there are any reactive tricks, and that will avoid the gotchas and pitfalls. (Which is the point I'm trying to make - it is good practice to talk to our opponents and seek solid understanding of the landscape of the game and not make assumptions). I get your point though that the abilities prevalent in the game these days make things a lot more complicated. My advice is to hopefully allow players to try and be on the front foot with these exchanges but i appreciate it is not always simple.
@asbrozek64
@asbrozek64 2 месяца назад
@@incursiontactics Yeah I agree. It's always great advice to be talking to your opponent and having a discussion about intent. It just really frustrates me that you can be a master of the core rules of the game, but can still blunder because the expectation is that you also have to be well versed in dozens of armies you don't even play. And then there is the other of the argument where you have sweaty opponents who say it's not their job to coach you. They won't lie to you directly, but they won't be super forthcoming either and will happily let you hang yourself. I hate it when you fall into a trap and lose because you didn't ask the right question in the right way.

@@incursiontactics my list is super harsh on my opponents mistakes, but super forgiving of mine. I have over 30 games with it and not one is a loss. It will punish my opponent for even the tiniest of mistakes, and severely. It's hard to kill enough space Marines before my blood angels get to you, and when they do, it's gonna hurt. 54 jump packs, tons of attacks and I can get them to wound t13 on 4s. (Blood angels detach, some have base 5, others get a captain to get to 7. About 24 powerfists in total). I'm a blood angels player, and my favorite video game is doom 2016 or maybe eternal.
