Jeep is going deep down the rabbit hole of off-road vehicles targeted at very specific audiences with their new Gladiator Mojave. Sadly I live pretty far from the desert and due to the lock-down I had to make do with our usual forest trail, hopefully I'll be able to get this guy out on sand soon...

I've looked at the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon and Wrangler Rubicon, but they wouldn't work for me. Were I ready to buy my next Daily Driver (and weekend off-roader) NOW, I'd go with a Chevy Colorado ZR2. But I'm not ready, won't be until March 2021 (at the earliest), so by then the Ford Bronco should have been out long enough to get it's specs, read reviews/watch RU-vid videos on it to be able to compare it to the ZR2. For me, it'll be one of those two. -- BR

I honestly loved this shorter format. I often skip the sections where Alex goes over wheelbase length and legroom figures in painstaking detail. But if others like it, who am I to judge?

I think the Mojave is the trim to get for those that drive a log on un-maintained forest roads. If you want to maintain a good clip without bottoming out in "surprises" this would do very well. I think its main competitor would be the ZR2 with it's special suspension. The forest professional might want to consider this along with full size trucks so the cost would be compatible. If the conditions worsen or the roads get narrower the Gladiator becomes more viable. I still think the ZR2 would suit them better specially with the turbo diesel. After many decades of driving off-road with manual transmissions (including a 5-speed V8 Chevy) I have to admit the latest auto is far more relaxing. Of course I didn't have hill hold assist in my days, but you only have to get caught in the wrong gear at the wrong time to note the advantages of the auto.

Way too expensive for me, but I guess some people are willing to pay for the “lifestyle” and the convertible aspect. The truck is basically an exercise in marketing.
@stevee8318
@stevee8318 4 года назад
They are basically selling a wrangler + 1/2 ton truck in the same vehicle. If you look at it as just a truck it's wildly overpriced, if you look at it as two vehicles in one it kind of makes sense.

Remember in the 1970s, 80s and even 90s when trucks were the cheap new vehicle to buy? I remember a friend buying a Nissan Hardbody in 92 or 93 for less than the cost of a Nissan Sentra. The Ford Ranger was a fleet vehicle because it was cheap and reliable. Now? Trucks cost twice as much as cars for no other reason than the manufacturers being greedy.

Greatest mistake....no V-8 option....Sand requires VERY high horsepower and torque. 285hp and 260 torque simply ain't gonna cut it. (remember that is 285hp at the block! ) You want to know why Jeep will not put a V-8 in any Wrangler? Their exact words were "It will kill the sales of the Grand Cherokee."

@@jtomtl Actually the 2021 raptor is confirmed to have a 5 link coil+ solid axle suspension in the rear. That's a feature the gladiator has had since the beginning. Maybe you can ask Ford why they did that if the current raptor is superior to the gladiator in everyway.
