This is Glenna Adams and I was the one in SDC who sold you the tools and saw you at the siminar at SDC each time you came. You are doing great and I have told several people about you and they have been watching you. Me too.
Thanks for all the tips. I just discovered your RU-vid channel, I’ve found a lot of help from them. I want to get started again in carving. However I’m scared because they won’t be perfect. Thanks for the video on just carve and you’ll get better. That is encouraging!
I am new to carving & I just , sort of stumbled, on your video and I am so glad I did. Then I heard Doug Linker mention your name. I really enjoy & learn from your instruction. I live in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. I look forward to your next video. I would like to see how you create a cut out if you have the time to make a video on that. Thanks again.
(Rusty fender) yes, I know about Kevin’s site. But thanks for your reply. I have visited Kevin on a few times. He lives about 2 hours drive from where I live. He is a wonderful carver. It is such a privilege & joy to sit and watch him carve & be able to ask a few questions. It is amazing to see him use that modified fish knife to carve. I have been carving for about two years. How long have you been carving.
I know that there is still a lot of skill remaining in the detail. However, I can't help thinking that buying a rough out is cheating. Why am I wrong? If I get done with something, good or no so much, I want to know that I made that.
I like to think of a roughout as an opportunity for an in depth study of that carver's design and layout process, as well as a chance to focus on practicing details, again in the style of the original carver. Also like Van said, you have many opportunities to make the rough out your own. It's really all in what you are trying to get out of it!
