This film actually pulls heavily from the Batman: Earth One comics. A continuity that reinvented the origins of heroes such as Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman for the 21st century, the question "What if these characters were created today rather than decades ago". The idea of Martha Wayne being an Arkham is pulled from this comic. In 99% of renditions Martha Wayne is actually a Kane, Kate Kane for example being Bruce's Cousin who later becomes Batwoman. So connecting Bruce's Martha to the Arkham family is a very interesting change and one the brings a bunch of mental issues as well just like the Earth One comics. Another change is how the Bruce we see in this film never left Gotham to travel the world during his early to mid 20s only to return to Gotham again around 25 and become Batman, similar to what we saw in Batman Begins only Bales Bruce Wayne was slightly older at 29 and then having his 30th birthday in the film. In this film it seems that Bruce is closer in age to his comic counterparts when he became Batman but he instead trained by Alfred, former Royal Marine. Alfred's design in this film is pulled from the Earth One comics as well. Pretty much this new Earth pulled from what we knew but had alot of left field moments and changes that put a fun twist on what we know about these characters.

The dark knight films are still my favorite Batman films. Not really the biggest fan of Bale as Batman but for that world he was fine. But the writing and villains and directing of those films was A1. Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck are my favorite Batmen but their movies were ok except Ben Affleck’s debut movie was BVS which I still love but it doesn’t top dark knight trilogy.

Bleh, everyone wants a corny marvel movie with fart jokes and goofy humor. This was true to the source material. Not everything needs to be a comedy.

Christian Bale was a okay Batman. The Dark Knight is a masterpiece. Begins is boring AF. Rises is terrible. Pattinson is my favorite because of its comics accuracy while I'll always have a soft spot for Burton's films.

Something I really hate about a lot of comic book movies, especially Batman, is that they take themselves way too seriously and think it’s edgy to be devoid of any kind of levity or sense of humor. It doesn’t have to be goofy or campy but Batman in particular is so full of twisted psychology that lends itself to at least a little fun. That’s why I like the Tim Burton Batman movies; they’re dark but also a lot of twisted fun.

Batman as a character is not meant to be humorous, you have other characters and superheroes for that. Dude is dealing with some serious hardcore murderers and criminally insane people. If that's not your cup of tea then fine it's understandable you don't have to like it. But to pretend like you understand Batman and stories revolving around him when you obviously don't then that's where the problem lies.

@@TheDragonKnight98 Again, there is room for levity. Burton's Batman films did a good job keeping up the dark, gothic tone while injecting a bit of humor. A lot of Batman comics are dark while still making some funny social commentary, like Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, often cited as an inspiration for many Batman films. That was a great graphic novel which had a lot of weird humor. I didn't say BATMAN HIMSELF had to be funny. But the stories do lend themselves to some humor.

there's humor in this if you look for it. it's probably the most subdued out of any of the movies, but really....you've had it really good in terms of Batman and humor my guy. There's a LOT out there...for YEARS. Not to mention all those comics. My take is, you either haven't seen enough, or haven't paid attention, or worse....don't get what you're watching. Batman is its own thing. There are dark edgy heroes and the lighter ones and everything in between...and among the darker ones, there are a million stories of variation. This is a massive brush you're painting Batman with here. And you HATE this fact? At the core of these superheroes is the legend....the danger, the lowpoint and the heroic rise to meet the climax. It's great when humor gets worked in, especially if its essential to the character, but in many instances it is not required for success. You are watching our modern day myths and epics. Even more important, Batman's story in general has phases that are hard and dour the whole way through. This is just this phase of Bruce's life, where he's obsessed, vengeful, looking for the effect of his mission. Levity would be odd and unwelcome. Over time, Bruce learns, he hits his stride and prime, and acquires more allies, and learns to live a life of broader emotions alongside that mission.

@@oneironaut420 I didn't expect that well-written response. You know what i concur, congratulations. The previous iterations do have some humours sprinkled over here and there between all of the suspense and the actions. Batman himself does have some dark sense of humour sometimes even though overall he's a very serious character.

There is just a lot of room left for some levity, which graphic novels like The Dark Knight Returns has proven. A lot of the movie aren't a lot of fun to watch and lack that sense of adventure and excitement. I've been a Batman fan for 45 years, and have seen every iteration of Batman stories. I know what I mean and what I'm talking about. Take a seat, junior.
