In 1745, Bonnie Prince Charlie arrived in Scotland and rallied the Highland tribes to support him in making his father, James III, king in Edinburgh, and then, at Prestonpans, defeated the British government forces who came to attack him. He followed this up by marching his army south capturing Carlisle, and Manchester, even getting as far as Derby - only 130 miles from London. If he had continued, he might have changed the Protestant Hanoverian monarchy to a Catholic Stuart one. But his army turned back for reinforcements, and were later destroyed. This video, combining footage of historical re-enactments and footage of huge embroidered panels tells the exciting story.
