The Battlefield V Krag-Jørgensen vs. Real Life (PS5, 4K/60FPS)

In this video I compare the Krag-Jørgensen rifle in Battlefield V's Recon class to the real rifle. It covers the brief history, function and some gameplay/shooting comparisons to the real-life Krag. Captured from PS5.
The Krag-Jørgensen isn't a rifle that shows up in many video games; in fact, the only other 2 games are Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2.
It's a bizarre 19th century design from an era where firearms designers were still figuring things out. It uses a very unique side mounted loading gate combined with a half-capsule (ofetn mistaken as rotary) magazine. You just sort of loosely place the round inside the box and closing the doors sorts everything out. It's dated but a smart system for circumventing rimlock.
It should be noted that while the Krag in BFV is a Norwegian 1894 long rifle chambered in 6.5x55, mine is an American Springfield 1898 chambered for .30-40, manufactured that same year(!). It's still very much a Krag in terms of action and magazine design though and it's every bit as good as the Norwegian version. BFV's model is probably as good as it will get for at least another decade. DICE's attention to detail is excellent as always.

Any of you guys pumped to play the Battlefield 2042 beta this Wednesday? Comments help the RU-vid algorithm show my videos!

Okay but does it: 1. Have a picatinny rail? 2. Take glock mags? (Excellent video as usual!)

With a hacksaw and iron will anything is possible. :P And thanks! If everything goes well I hope to have a couple more of these types of videos out by the end of the year.

Thanks, I’m glad you like it! More is coming in the next couple of months, but it’ll be after several other projects possibly.

The magazine cutoff is sort of reversed on the norwegian version, meaning when it's down you can feed from the magazine and when it's up you can single load. Which also means the cut off in the game is modeled incorrectly. Not a huge mistake just a fun fact

Interesting, so it’s like the older US 1892s. Yeah my bad, I had no idea.

the action on the American Krags are smooth as butter so much so that the Army was worried soldiers would think they didnt chamber a round because it felt the same when you were running the bolt with no ammo.

Yeah I’ve owned 2 Krags and they’re unbelievably smooth. Smoother than anything else, probably before or since.

@@geoechidna yeah i agree they are an absolute pleasure to shoot. The whole dump the rounds in and slam the gate shut didnt work as nice as they anticipated though lol. I think rimless cartridges would have been faster to load.

The comparison to the other Krag-Jorganson rifles, I would rate the Norwegian close over the Americans since even though they were ironically the last ones to adopt it, it gave them time to refine the design. You hasn't tried out the 6.5mm cartridge (6.5×55mm Swedish) but from what I've heard, it was a relatively good flat shooter. The Americans are second best but from what I've heard, the sightings were a bit finicky (what is your opinion on the American Krag sights?). The Danish Krag's is bottom on my list since the loading gate looks painful to load with but to be fair, the early design was meant to be load via en-bloc clip but the Danes never bothered to adopt such due to the ammo conservation syndrome that everyone in Europe had. Also, it seems very unnecessary to have a barrel shroud around the rifle, making it heavy.

Yeah the US Krag is pretty great, but the “slow” rimmed .30-40 is definitely not as good as the excellent 6.5 Swede (Krag??) round. I’ve heard the US and Danish models are smoother than the Norwegians because they don’t have that extra locking surface on the bolt. The sights on the US Krag aren’t “bad” imo but they’re very much 19th century sights. They’re a bit harder to focus on but they’re very precise. Would love a Norwegian one someday either way, still one of my dream guns.

Woah how were you able to use the Medal of Honor music in your video without being removed by youtube?
@geoechidna
@geoechidna 2 года назад
RU-vid technically licenses a ton of music through their content ID system. If you don’t get a copyright strike or claim within the first week you’re pretty much good to go. The original artist will still make money on the video; EA is almost undoubtedly taking in ad revenue from this video. It’s why when people just post gameplay videos with music turned on they don’t just arbitrarily get taken down. Licensed music (actual songs from prominent artists) is a bit more of a crapshoot. They often just mute the video in response.

I sadly no longer have a Mosin, but if I ever buy one I’ll probably do one for it.

Why do you lift your face off the gun when you run the bolt? Not enough clearance with the bolt fully open?
@geoechidna
@geoechidna 2 года назад
Pretty much. The Krag is a full length action, and once or twice I’ve hit myself in the eye with the cocking piece on similar rifles when attempting to retain sight picture. The firing on the gun and manipulation of the bolt itself breaks the sight picture anyway, so briefly lifting my head isn’t much of a detriment in this case.

Shouldn't you turn that stuff over to the quartermaster?

seems like a stout round.

It’s definitely not low-recoil but out of a long rifle like this isn’t to bad. Nowhere near as bad as .30-06 or 8mm.
