Taking down the Krag for inspection and cleaning. The rifle appears to have been coated with some sort of preservative - it cleans off readily with lacquer thinner.
Great video, Chap. Every time I disassemble my Krag, I too am amazed at the engineering and quality machining the old timers achieved with this action. Yours appears to be in outstanding condition. A real prize. Thanks for bringing us along👍
You're welcome, JCM45! I'll probably shift gears to the 1903A3 target rifle for a few days - I'm trying to have it ready for a shoot on Saturday. I'll get back to the Krag once I have the other one covered.
Extremely great video I have 130 40 crag long rifle version That somebody in the past had a sporterized And I followed your video in the complete breakdown so I could figure out how to pull the receiver out of the stock in all these and parts of the cell phone thank you for the video help me
@WilliamCChapin I've begun the restoration of my Krag removed all the receiver barrel and trigger assemblies. I repaired the area where the forestock had been sawed off previously by replacing it with an ebay purchased forestock, I used threaded rods, epoxy and fiberglass reinforcement following another RU-vidr's videos and just waiting to get barrel and reciever from gunsmith.
Where in the video do you disassemble/reassemble the mag cut off? I have a Krag with a redfield sight I plan on removing so I can reinstall the mag cutoff piece lol
Can you tell me how to remove the blade sight, I have to remove it to put the new front barrel band on, something I didn't know about for my restoration.
@WilliamCChapin unfortunately if I'm to get that front band clamp on I'll have to remove the blade, looks like a side trip to local gunsmith. Thanks for the quick reply.
