Having worked in high pressure jobs that sucked, Marcus doing his own thing despite seeing how swamped everyone was and needing help would drive me absolutely crazy.

I can’t with Director catching that Sydney had the Sharpie that Carmy needed!

Syd did a honest mistake and was crushed by the pressure and that's understandable. But Marcus made me mad as hell. Boy was all donuts and giggles when the kitchen was on fire 😭😭

I think we were all waiting on this one. Also I hate that Sydney and Marcus just caused problems and then ditched without fixing them. Marcus just did not do his job. Sydney made a series of honest mistakes and then shifted all the blame on other people. She led the preorders on. She got that review written which contributed to the huge amount of orders. Again all honest mistakes, but still her fault. Carmy was being an ass but so was she for yelling at Tina and everyone else. And then she says “this is not on me” that really pissed me off.

I love the varied opinions in this video. A lot of people don’t acknowledge the complexities of the situation. - Carmy: He put too much on Sydney’s plate and left her out to dry. The new to-go order system should have been something they worked on together rather than being all put on the new girl who also was put in charge of running a new kitchen system as well. He also fucked up by not addressing his true feelings about the review and allowed that unspoken tension to build and build until he snapped. Regardless of how terrible things are going, as a boss, you have to keep your cool. Also lowkey, I think his decision to make them try to fulfill all the orders was a bad call. This might be my ignorance, but I believe most order systems allow the restaurant to cancel orders. Marcus: Obviously he should’ve stopped fucking with those donuts and done his job. I understand that he was discovering his passion for pastries the past few episodes, but his priorities were all fucked up. Tina: She knew they were running a completely new system that day and decided to bring her son in which was an added distraction for Sydney. Richie: I’m so glad YaBoyRockLee was still trying to acknowledge that Richie was antagonizing Sydney from jump. It’s easy to overlook because he seems like the calmer one in the chaos, but he said some really fucked up shit to her the moment he arrived. Saying she was doing sexual favors to get a good review, saying she has an ulterior motive to basically “gentrify” the restaurant, etc. Those are all attacks on her character as much as Sydney calling him a loser was. Sydney: Obviously leaving the pre-order on was a big mistake. She also is quick to take her frustrations out on other people which is not cool. I do feel like her deciding to leave was fucked up. Even the though the pre-order thing was an honest mistake, it’s wrong to abandon the rest of the staff to deal with it alone.

Giardiniera is an Italian relish of pickled vegetables in vinegar or oil. It’s basically the veggies placed on top of an Italian beef. That’s what Carmy asked Syd and then Ritchie to work on, hence why Syd said “that’s my vegetables”.

I hope you guys noticed that through all the chaos in the episode, it was shot in one continous take.

I think its interesting that a lot of the defence of Carmy is that he just wants to get to work. I think Carmy is a good human but a big part of his job is managing his team and he sucks at it. He tries to hand it off to Sydney a newbie by creating the brigade. It fails because he doesn't support her and instead escalates things. We see that pattern repeat itself here. Carmy is a pressure cooker and Syd can feel that. Not talking about the situation doesn't de-escalate it. Tension just builds during the service and eventually explodes. Not saying Syd or Marcus didn't fck up but as a team leader he handled those situations horribly.

19:50 I agree with Director! I think Sydney left because Carmie wasn't being honest with her about the dish, which came out later when everything else unraveled. If Carmie didn't think they were ready, which Sydney SAID THEY WEREN'T they shouldnt have went ahead with it!! Richie attacked Sydney on a personal level the second he walked in! Carrie assigned salads to Sydney.

Ritchie constantly talked down to Sydney all season, he's lucky he only got stabbed once. But anyway, I feel like Carmy's reaction was fine to me before but in the grand scheme of things the way you view his behavior shifts. They were all the problem because no one is in a great place, but that fundamentally stems from Carmy.

This episodes ending was a culmination of so many things that went so wrong Obviously Sydney made a lot of mistakes today including the preorder and not getting on top of her work. And also leaving the shift when everything was horrible. Carmys main issue is his inability to communicate how he’s feeling and he was obviously annoyed about the dish that syd gave to the food critic and didn’t talk to her about it instead just giving her passive aggressiveness that effected syds work flow Marcus honestly was so crazy to be working on that donut when things were getting that busy. Especially since he was told twice to get back to work. Richie was antagonizing syd multiple times throughout the day and since this has been happening since syd started working there it is only natural that there would be a day that all exploded. But I will say once he realized it was interrupting with the flow he stopped and actually started doing his job when others did not

I honestly find it a bit crazy that after this episode. Sydney and Marcus got away with their behaviour without it being addressed

The foreshadowing was when Sydney told Carmy they weren’t on the same page.

Richie thrives and is calm in chaos. It is his normal.

It's refreshing to hear that you're not putting all the blame on Carmy this ep tbh, after ep 8 and everyone just said it's all on Carmy when the others were messing up their actual jobs

In fairness to Sydney, she would've recognized the pre-order error if Richie would've paid attention to her going over the tablet to-gos. Richie was patronizing af to her. Carmy also wouldn't listen. He's not a great listener at this point.

Sydney refusing to take any responsibility for anything is when I started seeing what her previous employers meant by her being impatient and leaping before she looks. Marcus was wrong but I kept liking him.

Though everyone has some blame, most should go to Carmy. He is the leader and let so much stuff happen since the beginning of the series. It's small, but for example, how Richie and Tina treated Sidney. He seems to just ignore toxic behavior.

I also think Carmy is mad not just because Syd left the pre-order option open but because that might not have mattered so much if they weren't just in the paper because of the review. She gave a meal they weren't selling to a food critic, he wrote about it, and then the pre-orders had people requesting it as well. It wasn't good from start to finish. Did you guys notice that this episode was all done as a one-shot? The chaos is real! It is a great show.

Its always funny that everyone wants to point fingers at who is in the wrong. Everyone has their part to play of why everything went wrong in the restaurant that day, there is no i in team. Say what you want about Sydney she did attempt to try to fix the problem but Carmy wouldn't even let her do that, by screaming at her to get off the expo line. He created this huge toxic environment in the kitchen and it bleed into everything else. This situation COULD have been fixed or even prevented if people like Richy wasn't do resistant about learning how to use the tablet, he could have even caught the mistake. Sydney is not perfect, so there should be a double check on things, dont just rely and put all of the responsibilities on her like she can handle everything. And thats just simply irresponsible as a boss/own period. But people love blaming everything on Sydney, good for her on walking out

I agree with Director. Carmy not addressing a serious mess up by Sydney caused her to be even more stressed and on edge. Then, the situation with the orders and Richie being condescending by purposefully trolling her and she exploded. He is the leader, so he has the responsibility to address things in a way that benefits the whole group. Ignoring the situation, without even saying let's talk about it later, was a big mistake. His inaction was negligent.

Yeah, Carmy definitely fucked up, his behaviour wasn't alright. Marcus was just way too distracted with his pet project in a time where he needed to buckle down, do his job, and help the rest of the crew. Sydney was too impatient, both with pressuring Carmy about her dish and letting that steal her focus from getting the online ordering set up properly (which she was also too impatient to take the time to set up and test before the big day), which led to the disaster we see in this episode (so yes, it absolutely was on her, much as she'd be loathe to admit it). Gotta believe the dishwashers are back there trying to mind their business, just focusing hard on cleaning all the equipment from the morning prep. Re: Sydney's dish, I think he was trying to get her to finish developing her dish, so she'd have that accomplishment purely on her own instead of relying on him. He pretty much said it's almost ready, but not yet, and the proper response, by this point with the trust they've developed, is to take time to think about what it's missing, not act like it's him taking her down a notch, but that's her pride and impatience coming in hot, and it steers her focus away from the to-go system being set up right, and it gets her pre-occupied, and when disaster strikes and she realizes it's her fault, that's a hard pill to swallow because she's mentally right back where she was with her business, and she projects her anger and frustration and feeling of failure towards Richie as an easy outlet, and then runs away.
