"Something wrong with Stephen King". He actually did not think up of this ending and was an aspect of the movie adaptation and he actually loved the change.

Fun fact: The main character in this movie was going to be the original Rick Grimes. But his schedule conflicted at the time so they chose Andrew Lincoln. Frank Darabont likes to work with the same group of actors on all his projects.

@moviescatsmargs
@moviescatsmargs 10 дней назад
@XSpiegel it's less about Jane and more about Lincoln. There's something about Lincoln's eyes, he looks dangerous but also detached. Like he's broken and can't feel emotion anymore, which works for the character because Rick is constantly battling giving into his worst intentions. With Jane, I can see all of his emotions on his face. He's not really a subtle actor so big performances, like in The Mist, work for him.

Fun fact: In Stephen Kings IT, Pennywise came from another dimension called the Macroverse, thousands of years ago. The creatures in the Mist also came from another dimension after the government opened a portal during the Arrowhead project. There’s a very good chance that that dimension was the Macroverse considering the fact that most, if not all, of Stephen Kings books are connected. That would mean these monsters and IT are from the same place. Very interesting.

Yeh, thought I read somewhere that it's connected to world of "The Dark Tower" too. I forget the book, one about the people digging up an alien spaceship and the ghosts of the dead aliens possessing them, but all his King's stories seem to take place in Maine and in one chapter a characters had visions of Pennywise, a vampire from Salem's Lot, Randall Flagg and other monsters/characters from his other horror books.

I actually stood up and said out loud "SHUT THE F*CK UP", when that tank came rolling out of the mist, old sad ass song blaring back on that we'd been hearing. That man will never be right, he's gone, bro. If the eldritch terrors he witnessed didn't crack him up already, then the knowledge of killing his son and fellow survivors just minutes away from rescue, will surely have him in a padded cell the rest of his days. Another thing I find interesting about this movie when I zoom my perspective out to a macro level is, you know how in super hero shows like Spiderman there are many situations where they accidentally open portals to other dimensions, even the movie Pacific Rim, and although things look bleak sometimes we usually see things from the perspective of the powerful hero of the movie. However the Mist, this movie shows you how normal people would experience the result of a portal opening up and allowing entities from it's dimension to invade us and we have nobody here with super powers.

The main villain of the saga, the Crimson King, tries to destroy the beams of the tower to destroy all universes, causing a lot of these portals full of monsters to open in the normal world. Pennywise from It also comes from the Todash, The Outsider from The Outsider, Tak from Desperation, as well as a lot of King villains like Barrow from Salem's Lot.

I hope these "as we go" helps 1. In context it is similar to what King did with "The Stand", except in this case it's monsters and not a virus. 2. Jeffery DeMunn is known as a favorite of director Frank Darabont, who has cast him in all four of his films: "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), "The Green Mile" (1999), and "The Mist" (2007). All King adaptations. He was also in what King himself says "Storm of the Century" was such a good screenplay that he adapted into a book. 3. William Sadler also was in "Shawshank" and "The Green Mile". 4. Frances Sternhagen was in "Misery" by King. 5. Marcia Gay Harden kills it.☠ 6.King wanted to play the big guy that goes out with the rope around his waist "brass balls" but Darabont shot him down. 7. This is not how the book ends. Darabont wanted this ending. King later said that as horrific that it is he likes it better. What makes this ending more devastating is he has to live with it the rest of his life 8. The picture of the cowboy is an Easter egg from King's "Dark Tower series 9. "My life for you." is another King quote in "The Stand". 10. The cool thing about this story is, since the creatures are from a different dimension, they could be anything. 11. Stephen King. You're welcome🤩 PS: David promised Billy he wouldn't let the monsters get him.

I. love.. this ending... and I'll explain why. 1)the original books ending: leave 'em guessing, just a remark that there are 4 bullets the audience contemplates the awful repercussions; it's good narratively. the cult didn't know, the protagonists don't know; and you don't know either 2) you could have the tanks pull up right as they run out of gas after the "4 bullets" conversation; end it on a hopeful note, okay our protagonists chose wisely- never give up. It's a 'feels good man' the level-headed prevail type of story. not a rememberable story narratively, but it's a good lesson 3) you could have a creature from the Mist eat him afterwords: have an experience of real stunning apathetic dread of that feeling beyond hopelessness- respectable ending, that's a strong narrative and a bold thing to have for an audience 'no lesson- life happens then you die kid' But This to have this horrifying remarkable lesson that hopelessness can be wrong; and that this in itself could be worse that hopelessness can have absolute cost in the face of hope unseen. this ending is just so much more powerful than the first 2 combined it leaves you contemplative like ending 1 it stands to toe to toe lesson with 2 and it utterly OVERWHELMS 3 in efficacy. this ending was literally stunning the 1st time I saw it, just awe-inspiring dread, elevates this story to a masterwork of horror. I am 100% in agreement with Stephen King this ending trumps all the others, this was the STRONGEST ending to the story possible and i respect the shit out of those that wrote this.

Everybody recognizes Andrea, Carol and Dale from TWD but nobody ever gets Morales (he’s one of the soldiers on leave). He’s the guy with wife and two kids that didn’t go with Rick’s group in s1. Rick fought and killed him during the war with Negan in season 8.

Additionally, if no one has mentioned it before me, the creators of the Half Life game series cited this novella as a big influence on the first game...the idea of the army research facility opening a dimensional rift for creatures to invade.

Few things about the story/movie: - Carmody was right. Everything she said was true. "We want the boy!" They kill the boy, the mist clears. She was the villain, sure, but she was also 100 percent accurate with everything she said. - The army was driving the same direction the protagonists were. This means they already came from the Supermarket and most likely everyone within was rescued. - The movie was originally supposed to be in black and white. This would make the CGI less punishing and obvious.

When the movie was at cinemas as premiere movie and no one know the ending people left the auditorium completely silent. Most of them was broken for many next hours or days.

You guys should watch The Mist Tv series. That would be fun, its only one season so it would go by pretty quick. Also this ending destroyed me as a kid, trauma. Also the line "Are you being Willfully Dense?" Has been a part of my normal speech since I was a kid.

Funny how the original story was published in 1980 and yet it's a pretty spot-on allegory for post-9/11 America. This terrible thing happens and for a while we're all united, but eventually paranoia and fear makes us turn against each other. It's also a film about holding on to and losing hope. The only person in the entire film who never really gives up, the mom who leaves the store, ends up safe with her kids. Everyone else either dies or descends into mania.

This is not the ending in Stephen King’s book. It actually was ambiguous, with them still being in the car, in the Mist. (This is one of the few times when an adaptation actually had a more messed up ending than what he did). You should check out “Cujo”, then Google how the ending was different in the book.

I'm so glad someone realized that Carmody wasn't wrong. She has no idea what she's talking about. But everything she says, she's never wrong. It makes the following so much more believable. As a younger person I hated her and couldn't understand why she got her following but now on rewatches. Yeah. She's never wrong. It's insane.

The universe was intriguing to me kinda felt like clover field happening in a small town wish we could get more on it either before the events of the mist or after in another location but the mystery is prolly one of the biggest drives for interest and curiosity
