Get a close up tour of an awesome Knox Kershaw KBR 925 Railroad Brush Cutter
including an in cab tour and ride up track in the machine. This brush cutter
is an amazing machine, it refuses to bog down even while cutting heavy
brush on both sides of the track at the same time.
Here's the video where we go out and cut brush along the track:
• Brush Cutting along th...
We had rented this machine in 2018 and it was unavailable since then.
There are very few of these KBR 925 brush cutters around
here in the east. The truck driver that brought this one in told me
that CSX made one similar to this for their own use and he had hauled it for
them many times. He also told me he was happy to get ours off his
truck, it's a rather heavy machine. This one is a rental from RELAM (Railway
Equipment Leasing and Maintenance)
We have 16.8 miles of track here. We rented this machine for 1 month
at an expense of $10,000. Most of the days we cut we had to jump around
a train running, there were a few days we had no trains and all day track,
and a few days we didn't run it at all, but all told it took us about 3 weeks
to cut both sides of the track the entire 16.8 miles.

AWESOME video Dave with all the commentary and info about a very dangerous machine to be around, I have worked on this crew for a bit in the beginning of my RR career, we actually need brush cutters out again in full force on the Class 1s but al,l they want to do is spray the vegetation instead of doing it right. Nice horn also.
@ccrx6700
@ccrx6700 2 года назад
They wanted to spray here many years ago and we filed a safety grievance cause we did so much walking and hand work on the track back then. We won the grievance and all vegetation and brush removal it was deemed would be done by mechanical methods after that. Really glad you enjoyed the the show Steve, appreciate your checking it out my friend.

You'll see how inadequate those window screens when you grab a steel fence post or something similar. My skid steer had tempered and tinted front door glass, which the dealer really promoted. So a friend borrowed it to pull a tree with 3/8" schedule 80 transport chain. He gave it a good tug which broke the chain. The chain came through the tempered glass , bruising him from knees to chest and spraying tempered glass fragments all over him including in his mouth. He mouthed white bread and spit it out for 2 hours to get the fragments unstuck from inside his mouth. Door glass was replaced with 1/2" Polycarbonate. I've had some fairly large trees bounce off the Polycarbonate also found out some workman's compensation won't insure companies that have glass windshields in operations subject to material rolling off back of bucket. Some companies thought that removing the door was the answer but rocks and big clods of dirt landing in your lap is no fun either. Thanks for another interesting video.

Can't wait to see it in action. The spur line I walk through some wetlands must use something like this. Never seen it in action, but I've seen the after effects. Railway right of ways, from what I've seen, are usually home to invasive plant and tree species as they are usually the first things to move into disturbed or fallow ground, so the procedure is likely not nearly as intrusive on the environment as what it may look to some.
