Judis, The Red album (1963-1967) collection has been expanded with 12 additional tracks added chronologically, including for the first time some of George Harrison’s earliest songs and some classic Beatles versions of R&B and rock ‘n’ roll hits that were so influential on the band. Extra additional songs include: Taxman, Got to Get You Into My Life, I'm Only Sleeping, Here, There and Everywhere, Tomorrow Never Knows and Girl. The 2CD collection now contains 38 tracks, 30 of which have new mixes for 2023. The booklet contains new sleeve notes by journalist and author John Harris. As for the Blue album, it has 9 additional tracks, including “Blackbird”, “Glass Onion” and the new song, “Now And Then”. The last Beatles song, “Now And Then” completes John Lennon’s 1970s vocal and piano demo recording with parts played by Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, as well as a new arrangement for strings. I'd love to see a re-release of the Anthology series in some form, but please, let's have a Rubber Soul Deluxe set first?

Sorry to spoli the mood. I think they will "find" a lot of Beatles leftovers by the band all the time...Just like with the 'Free as a Bird/Real Love' in the 90's.. They convinced me that THOSE would be the last songs by the band... BUT here comes (not the Sun but) AI to save the day... And we can play this "last song" game til..wait.. my guess is year 2060 (the advent of the band) and beyond. AS MUCH I love the Beatles and their greatest achievement, being (for me) the Abbey Road (1969) album, which I think was the start of the HiFi era(anyone hear of stereo?) and it is a wonderful recording... But as for the MUSIC?..Come on.! Please listen to other music of the 1969-70 era. The Beatles was outdated even THEN. Like Elvis. And Elvis hated the band (check it out And find out)..But that is JUST me. Many of you think I am not in the the mood to get the Beatles back.. SO answer me THIS: Just one final question I need to pose to the fans of this "final" song, Now and Then... TELL me, which songs by the actual Beatles, this NOW and THEN outpeforms by the actual band? Is it better than 'Hey Jude' or is it in the ranks of 'Revolution 9'? And as always, don't go ahead and shoot the messenger (he is dead already, at Marathon).

You got an ear worm cause as a Beatles song "Now and Then" doesn't make the cut. John's version of "Twist and Shut" is better.

We would buy 10 different mixes per year if they would do one track more each time…….sometime the blue album will have 58 cds and the red album 83 cds for 30.000 euros and we will buy them. So, there is no point in reviewing anything. They will sell it anyway.

From his description, I got the impression that he wasn't saying that the bass guitar was mixed more prominently, but that it was made DEEPER, i.e. lower frequency, upsetting people who are not bass-heads. Some of Giles' previous remixes have been a little too "bass-heavy" for my tastes.

The official take used on the stereo version of "Please Please Me" John gets confused on the verse. This mistake should easily have been fixed. Has it? Who knows from this vid.

No I paid full price, just happened to come unexpectedly early!

Why would they do that? The tech is perfectly capable of splitting out the original She Loves You into its various parts. They will use the actual backing track from I Want To Hold Your Hand on Komme Gib Mir Diene Hand, however, because that is what was used on the original. But it'll be from the original multitrack rather than a copy of a copy as used on the original 60s release.

I would just assume they used Sie Liebt Dict because it would be even easier to strip, since the multi-track exists. @@dougiemilnephotography756

The idea for a "Green Album" is nice , but the Beach Boys beat them to that a long time ago, With Their "The Beach Boys / 1966-69", 2LP, 134EVC 85 808/9 right up to the same font.

@@florianm3170 That's correct, I have that album, but, very few people are aware of it. It would make no difference. You could say "Now and Then" was recorded Brilliantly 12 years ago by Alvaroratiga. It didnt stop Paul recording the song 👦👍

We@@garytwitchett9359 Well, i stumbled upon the Beach Boys album in a yard sale a while ago, I found the idea pretty cheeky. There also was a version of Now and Then by Andrew Polyakov (made back in 2010) which has now been taken down but can be easily found. Don't know the Alvaroratiga version though.

Hi, MAL has certainly been used on She Loves You and Love Me Do. I'm not sure if any info has been released yet about which other tracks it has been used on.

Wouldn't be surprised once they've finished if they pull them all together like that. Presume a few years down the line

What EMI would have done I think, first a new box like the 2009 one, with original Stereo MIXES (now including Love Me Do & She Loves You) with the volume they increased in that edition, but without having increased the bass, and the other box that they should make should include the new Remixes that have been in the making......... I think.

I was hoping we might get both mixes with this release, the Ringo version on the "Now and Then" single, and the album version on "1962-1966". I thought the new mix on the single was great, so I won't mind if we wait a little longer for the other version.

I do make mention of the ending of I Am The Walrus in this video 👍

That's the fake stereo that was used by Capitol on most of the stereo releases of the US albums. It's not stereo in its true sense. It simply rolled off the bass from the mono mix and placed it on one side of the stereo, and rolled off the treble and placed it on the other, giving an illusion of depth. These new mixes are true stereo, with each instrument given its own specific position in the stereo spectrum

@@dougiemilnephotography756 Back in the day, if Capitol did it, their fake stereo was called "Duophonic". They used the famous echo chamber tunnels under the Capitol Tower building to create a stereo effect. If it was EMI's fake stereo, they split the bass and treble into 2 channels. DES and DCS are modern processes, which takes the mono recordings, splits the individual instrument and vocals into separates them into their own channels and then remixes them to a modern stereo mix. Using DES(Digitally Extracted Stereo), it is capable of creating true stereo which rivals an actual stereo mix from multi-track tapes. In blind listening tests, most people can't tell the DES mix from an actual original good stereo mix stereo mix. Many of the early Beatles recordings were done in 2-track and released in that format as stereo by EMI and Capitol. Around 1964, the Beatles started recording on 4-track, so true conventional stereo mixes were created. EMI didn't understand what stereo was, so they continued to mix them into 2-track stereo, used for creating mono. One of the latest atrocities was the "Sgt. Pepper's..." album, but putting all the vocals in one channels. Giles Martin has stated that he has never had a Beatles' master tape in his hands and has seen them in the vault once. He has remixed the stereo versions from digital files made from the original master tapes. With the aid of computer program de-mixing, he has been able to true-up the stereo mixes. De-mixing programs have been around for years now and Peter Jackson was definitely NOT the first to use the technology.

@@automatedelectronics6062 are these the demixing software that Giles Martin looked at and decided that the quality wasn't good enough? I know he looked at some before Jackson came along.

@@dougiemilnephotography756 I don't know what process Giles Martin looked at, but DES is state-of-the-art and the latest examples I've received, have been superb. Now, listening to the newly re-mixed into stereo "Love Me Do" on the new singles, sounds horrible, like it was done in the loo. Hopefully he didn't do the same with the other mono recordings. Whatever happens in the future, maybe Giles Martin should send it to the guys in Canada who have perfected DES de-mixing and re-mixing. With "Love Me Do", Giles Martin should have done us a favor and just presented the original 2-track the way it was recorded.

@@automatedelectronics6062 they'd have problems presenting the two-track - it was scrapped in 1962. All versions of the Ringo version of Love Me Do have been lifted off a good quality mono 45. And I think that the result sounds superb.
