I absolutely love the idea of stained glass windows which function as solar panels! We need more of these combinations of art and tech to create more beautiful places that serve everyone. :)

You are very creative and imaginative. I have never seen such beautifully designed solar panels before. The table charging station and the transparent solar windows are brilliant ideas. Imagine if everyone had them to charge up their phone and other electronic devices, how much energy that will save. You give me hope that working together we can solve the energy crisis.

It's people like you making me hopeful for the future. I'm sure there's equally enthusiastic researchers out there with similar day to day ideas for wind or geothermal, or just other sources on energy that can be used in less sunny places. I'll be eagerly awaiting the day when your Power Plants are released commercially :)

@@Yanaschaf so they can ruin the country you are living in? If this things made real sense like LED there would be no laws or politicians needed... It's just a trend called green that will make landfills fulls of a new kind of non recyclable trash... ♻️ from something that before were recyclable...

So: mariuhana will be legal planet wide.,already equalling the facebooks, amazons and googles on wall street as investment goldmine. I just retired after 35 years as a roofer. I mainly worked on commercial roofing. I ran a repair crew for ten years. That means I fixed the leak over your desk. I’ll tell you where you never put solar. Never attach it to the roof. Trust me it gives you a greater possibility of a leak. Anyone that lets some guy install solar / a satellite dish on your roof. And you see them with a tube of caulking. Run them off. I have one more roof to install. Mine. Then I will install solar at ground level. If you do have to install in the roof. Do the following 1. New roof 2. Attach solar on a floating support ( no holes ) with a protective material between it and your roof . 3. Have the power wires enter the structure below the roof. Maybe at ground level. 4. Now I can not say this enough. Silicone belongs in your bathroom . It does not belong on your roof. Or a outside surface. Enjoy solar it certainly has its benefits. On your roof is not the place for it. Its the right location being high up. 5. If you own a building with a flat roof . Remember to install a good protective material between the roof and mounting base for panels. Oh and pick up all the debris left from the heating and AC guys. They leave screws laying everywhere.

@@PAVANZYL a solar panel about that size goes around $200 .. $30 for some China made electronic boards .. plus extras .... or about $250 more than a regular table. It costs 50 cents a year to charge an iPhone .. if your whole family uses it every day, the table will have paid for itself in just over 50 years! .. such gadgets are only for fun, or for appeasing the obsessed, .. just not very practical.

Great intentions, but I honestly think that we need to futhermore lower prices and make solars more effective, let's begin with cheap solar roof tiles and other obvious applications, the rest will come afterwards. If we want to make solar power one of main power sorces with winters we also need to store that energy, ex. as lakes pumped up / down to "charge" / "discharge" those lakes, there is still a lot to do, but solar power seems to be one of better renewable power sources, because it's very predictable.

First of all predictable is not reliable, the best example for that is everyday when it gets dark solar predictably doesn't produce any power when demand is highest. And btw there are weather forecasts for wind as well as cloud coverage, so I don't see how wind is less predictable. And storage ... first of all do a back of the envelope calculation there is no way to store enough energy in summer to get reliably through winter. Also there is next to no capacity left for new pump-hydro-storage, every good location has been taken and new ones are basically impossible due to environmental protection and local resistance (people don't like to get their houses flooded). And yes there are other storage solutions that are way more expensive and way less capable and aren't gonna get build for the same reasons as pump-hydro plus the extra cost factor. Also advocating for big solar especially in northern Europe can only come from someone whose income depends on selling said solar because that has nothing to do with sustainability (those things need to be produced and that has a giant ecologic footprint as well and they don't last longer just because there are in the north ... so no longer lifetime just less energy in this lifetime). And keep in mind since solar+wind is so unreliable you would need to build giant overcapacity to get through bad days of clouds, short days and little wind as those conditions aren't uncommon in winter or keep a fleet of gas turbine power stations for those times

Solar is not reliable and is most of the time combined with natural gas. There is a reason those big gas companies are pushing for solar. We need reliable clean energy and for now only nuclear is up to the task.

@@TheBreed010 I agree with you on most points, apart from: - I'm not involved in any way with selling/producing solar panels, I honestly think that even in best scenarios we still need some 4th gen nuclear power plants (not yet implemented) or even better fussion poer plant (far from implementation, ITER will still be mostly scientific experiment) - wind is less predictable than solar power, depending on day or even weeks, there might be long periods with no wind created electricity at all, where solar panels even in worst scenarios generate some power, my parents life near wind turbines, they look nice, they don't disturb their lafies in any way, but even when there is a lot of wind not always all of them all on (probably due to servising), and when there is not enough wind they don't work at all - storing, I agree on water solution, I'm not really into this, I just heard about this and rolling stones up and down a slope, probably there are another reasonable solutions, but I simply don't know them - "northen europe" was my wring, I meant central, in germany solar power is very cheap, but I doubt that it will be reasonable in scandinavian countries, at least norway has 97% their electricity from hydro power plants

@@TheChrisaige Yes and no, how about hydro power plants in places like fiords? Also, 3rd gen fusion reactors are good but not that brilliant, 4gen will come soon, those should be brilliant, if I remember correctly, 95% less waste, and 4th gen can reuse waste from previous generations as a fuel. There is always question of fission power, which might be avaible in 10-25 years, we don't know that, but there is one promising sign, private sector has started to develope them, so some companies think that tehnology is nearly good enought, so there is some hope for incredibly cheap electric power. My intend of that comment was: "it's not really about designing solar powers to make them look nice what can make them really into really important source of electricity, what we need to do is improve them and make them cheap"

well fusion is at least 50 years away from noteworthy contribution (20 years till DEMO and at least 10 years for 1st gen development and a decade of building up the numbers). 4th gen fission is also at least 15 years away probably even more, also I don't think that a closed fuel cycle with such high efficiency is possible (but it's also not needed). Regarding nuclear waste, you can reduce that by about 90% or so by just reprocessing the spent fuel which mostly doesn't happen because of political reasons but even if you don't do that the amount is miniscule due to the high energy density of the fuel but getting rid of it is again not a technical issue but rather a political as it turned out. To sum it up at least in Europe going nuclear is certainly not an option due to political unfeasibility. I don't think fjords carry that much water to really justify the destruction of the landscape but even if I don't think Norway is interested in destroying their fjords for a couple extra GW of power for other countries and they certainly can't power the rest of Europe or even a significant part of it. My bets are on some form of carbon capture and maybe a bigger role for nuclear but I have a hard time seeing that. I would recon we will most likely just don't do a whole lot about it until it really starts to impact many nations (with higher economy) and then maybe a big international carbon capture effort on the cheap but I haven't seen cheap CC for such a massive scale but ... we'll see

Normal PV panels *are* beautiful already! We don't need more design(and more expensive), but we need them to be (even)cheaper! Let's get them first dirt cheap, and then we talk about design.

Both at the same time. People are more willing to buy something if it is beautiful and doesn't cost too much. Practicabilty and cost effectiveness doesn't have to be ugly. We're just indoctrinated that beauty is only for the wealthy.

No energy gathering and utilizing method is perfect but I would prefer funding for solar research than fracking. Meanwhile sustainable use of wood energy is probably the best alternative we have.

Transparent Solar panels on glass buildings will be a huge thing. It would increase profitability for the office buildings, which they like a lot. Solar power will win. If that was a political party, then we could bet on it :-)

The title pulled me with hope that solution to cost and storage aspects of solar energy might have been found. Beautification of solar power is a worthy goal but it can come after it becomes a viable alternative.

The cost of unsubsidized solar is already lower than coal in many places and the cost of solar is reduces by 75% every 10 years (Swanson's law). Solar is entirely viable right now and will blow past old forms of power in the coming decade. As for storage, let us just power all of daytime use before we have to worry about that.

Her work is amazing, that is the question that always in my mind "why solar panels have dark navy in color?", "Do solar panels should always in a rectangular shape?". And yeah suddenly I found this video, I really support what she has done in designing a solar panel

Let me enlighten you... Solar is dark because it need to absorb light not reflecting it... and pannels are square ⬛ for a simple reason, easy to package, uses lesser space to transport and it's stackable, it cost lesser to produce ... And overall it can fill your rooftop better than any other shape or design... Any other questions?

When I asked that questions, actually i was wondering before that by looking at her design, why cant we use colorfull and not square-shape solar panel like her work so we can have customized design. So the 'conventional' solar panel is basicly for functional & efficiency purpose.

Designing new models is good. But I think, to produce efficiently 1000's of gigawatts to our world it's possible with off grid projects with standard solar panels. 😊

Realistically it's 20-30% efficency for a good solid fixed position solar panel

SunPower makes the highest efficiency panels at 23% efficiency, anything higher than that can only be found in a lab at this point in time.

SunPower solar PV panels are also Cradle to Cradle Certified for clean chemistry, clean disassembly and remanufacturing in a "circular economy".

History has changed from agriculture to industrial age. In agriculture(bionic), plants such as trees are used as energy and slow, The industrial age (mechanic) uses minerals such as oil as an energy and fast. Now trees and animals are hard to live more and more, but human and plastic are overflowing. What a beautiful world!

So we build greenhouses that incorporate PV, which blocks some of the light to the plants in order to produce energy. Then we use the energy produced by the PV to provide the plants with more light? That's a net loss of energy. I'll stick to my rooftop PV array thanks.

I think the solar panels are on the floor of the greenhouse but again will be blocked by the plant pots, foliage, holding structure, led lights, wires and water pipes. So yeah, it will not be efficient at all. Better leave the solar panels outside unblocked from direct sunlight. She is not an engineer, she is trying to make it pretty at the depends of efficiency and cost.

Cool, you can make anything sound stupid if you only selectively hear. Remember that it had hydroponic functions as well, it wasn't just to power lights. Also, plants are more receptive to some wavelengths of light than others, so by being able to control that wavelength you could increase the efficiency of the photosynthesis. By doing it right, you could speed up the growth of the plants by a substantial amount. It might not be the best use of the technology, but it isn't as dumb as you tried to make it sound.

Very cool! But don't forget the batteries and redirecting the electricity remaining into the principal grid. In order to have a solid sustainable grid, we have to stock energy, everything that creates electricity should be connected to the whole grid.

I've been saying for a while that as far as I know, there has not been a systematic and comprehensive approach to materials research for solar panels. Yes, there are lots of researchers developing and testing new materials, but there's probably a lot of duplication of failed materials, a lot of materials that have yet to be tested, etc. Because a very efficient and less expensive to build panel could potentially benefit all humans, it's time we got organized across the world and figure out how to make cheaper and more efficient panels through a systematic and comprehensive materials testing program. Of course, a cheaper and more efficient panel only solves part of the problem. We still have to figure out either storage technologies or other ways to produce electricity at night (nuclear?).

The solar problem is majorly a political one ,also the inconsistent of the sun and the low efficiency still a problem (high efficiency is not affordable for average incomes). Great speech ty👍🏻

I’m currently planning out a build in a cargo van for a living situation (check out the #vanlife videos) I’m imagining how this can be integrated into a moving vehicle. Of course when does similar to her would have to be extra resistant to vibrations and such but I’m sure she can figure it out lol. I would love to see something like this be more prevalent

Centralized power plants have always been, are, and will always be primary targets for sabotage. The solar panels on my roof are not. The wider we spread production the small the profile energy presents as an target for economic or physical harm. Camouflaging it beautifully is even smarter. Two thumbs up. I: :I

For solar to be a preferred option for cold countries who doesn't receive as much sunlight as hot countries does, these technologies might help to a degree. For hotter climates, there is lot of space and radiation available to develop mega solar plants which countries like India are already doing. Africa is the next big example. Another option is transferring this excess power through the grid to cold countries during overcast days and way to earn money by hot countries. But this needs a global grid which is currently not feasible but maybe in next 20 years when globalisation extends here as well.

So... Beautiful landfills filled with radioactive Pistons? How do you think nuclear power works? Multi tier approach is probably the right thought process. Maybe with enough smart people like you thinking about a diverse group of ideas we can collectively solve our energy problem.

UGH! I went on top of this hill and this house on the bottom of the hill has a solar panel that reflects a lot of light. It’s blinding and if I get close to it, it feels hot. It’s like radiating heat or something. What would happen if EVERY home has solar? Aren’t there drawbacks? I know there are drawbacks to everything. This all sounds nice but it seems unrealistic.
