PIRATE RADIO IS ONE OF THE BEST GORILLAZ THINGS EVER

Pirate radio literally changed me forever as a person 😭 it was so well written and so in character, it was everything Murdoc ever needed and was the peak of his character (in my opinion). Murdoc sitting and talking to an audience that he doesn’t even know if exists, and ranting about how alone he feels, whilst he keeps slipping in and out of consciousness really made me feel odd and hit a lot. The way it gets deeper and deeper as the episodes go on to the point where you’re basically able to feel his pain whilst talking really just made me feel bad for him :( he was certainly not a good person, especially not during this phase but you can tell how much he was suffering half way through, being lonely in the middle of nowhere, his only source to talk to being 2d (that he’s literally holding hostage) and cyborg noodle that basically is his daughter that he let “die” during the el manana crash. Loved this video btw!! ^_^

9:10 IKR like I was reading the wiki and when i read that part i was genuinely concerned LIKE DAMON WHAT HAPPENED??? also just wanted to share my thoughts about Murdoc's writing in Song Machine- i think it was handled well imo with how Murdoc is clearly in crisis, switching back and forth from showing remorse, desperation and anxiety to just doing straight up evil things like drugging 2-D, drugging 2-D another time and also stabbing him with a needle in the process. Like yeah its kinda confusing but i think it makes sense. Murdoc is not your average immortal human(?) being, he is also actually insane, so i think it makes more sense that his redemption is rocky. And since his crisis stems from the fact that he has no full control of his band now that the hierarchy of it has changed, he starts to question his worth to the people in his life that arguably matters to him the most. Obviously he doesnt take this well and does horrible things as an attempt to "fix" things, but only ends up causing a lot of trouble for his band. But in The Lost Chord, when forced to relive the worst parts of his (and pretty much everyone else's) life, he does the right thing and helps his band escape first. Also the fact that 2-D is the one to notice and go back for Murdoc makes it so much more significant and impactful. I see it as, 2-D takes notice of Murdoc's selfless behavior in that moment and decides to give him another chance rather than to let him drown in his awful past. sorry for writing an essay but i just had to. I love your Gorillaz videos and i have rewatched them like a bunch lmao, keep at it :)

Don't mind me I'll just be rewatching this vid 100 times, pirate radio is an amazing piece of ancillary material that helps the world of gorillaz to feel grounded just like Rise of the Ogre did. I do really agree that Plastic Beach is the most nuanced the characters got. Example with 2D we got to see how bitter and angry he could get when Murdoc screws with his life in probably the most miserable way yet. He still tries to be passive-aggressively patient, still wanting to admire Murdoc for violently and unintentionally kickstarting his life (literally, dude was hella comatose, also caused by Murdoc…god he's one messed up little guy). It's nice that we get a different dimension to the overly forgiving scatterbrained guy from phases 1+2.

I agree, I don't like how Murdoc is written now a days and pirate radio did a great job in fleshing out his character more. I wished they just stopped in 2010, it seems like like the writing team isn't going to stop flip flopping Murdoc from good to bad and revolving the story around him screwing up. It doesn't help that now their going against everything they preach by becoming influencers promoting their products.
