About Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Adolescence of Utena:
All eyes are on Utena Tenjou, a mysterious transfer student to Ohtori Academy. But Utena's eyes seem to be fixed on one familiar face that stands out among the rest-Touga Kiryuu, Utena's childhood friend. Touga knows of Utena's past and possesses knowledge of the Mark of the Rose, a set of unique rings worn by those who compete for the hand of the Rose Bride. The Rose Bride, Himemiya Anthy, belongs to whomever wins her in a duel, and the one that wins all the duels is said to be given the power to bring revolution to the world. Utena is drawn into the duels, but Touga and their complicated history together may end up unraveling everything. Nothing is as it seems in this retelling of the original anime series.

Anthy was going to commit suicide and Utena made her stop. Never heard the American dub, it's very nice, I prefer the Japanese original though.

@@starvoltnexus3139Of course, the translation can't and shouldn't change the situation or message. Utena yells "URUSAI" at her, which shows how mad she's at Anthy.

There is a remake, it's called gundam witch from mercury, like literally, the creator of the show was a huge fan of utena that they made it into a gundam show

@@27_orange_lily but fr tho the creator was inspired by utena that they made the show to be an homage to it, which makes gundam WFM one of the more unique titles in the gundam franchise since it is essentially a "what if?" of revolutionary girl utena but in a gundam universe

Utenas original English voice actress is undergoing cancer. She has a gofundme. It just reached its goal, and she now has better care. Let’s cross our fingers and hope that she overcomes this, because if she’s still standing by the end of this, I would love if she voiced Utena again.

I would also like to recommend it. But as Silivia says, start with he anime. This film is kind of the ending of the whole story and to have all the background you have to watch the anime. Otherwise you will be very confused.

Yes! Like others say, start with the anime. This was actually one of my first mangas though, lot of young me to grasp, filled with metaphors for a lot of themes of sexuality, gender, and abuse.

Have you ever watched the original Revolutionary Girl? Because you won't understand shit about this movie otherwise lol. The series and movie though are not meant to be taking literally. You have abstract the meanings from WHY you are seeing things, not just taking the on screen visuals for what they are. All the surrealism you see (like Utena turning into a car) is just visual metaphors. The bare bones basics is that the school represents childhood and the outside world is adulthood.

This is pretty much after the series ended, because the revolution occurred, and the cycle finally ends with Utena and Anthy managing to escape to the real world.
