Colonialism was achieved out of the brutal exploitation of the native population. Your viewpoint would be condoning slavery and other atrocities. The conquistadors certainly were not worried if the miners performing back breaking work in their silver mines were getting enough "philosophy time".

Uncle, I live in India. The Europeans who came here did not come here for benevolent purposes. They built means to accelerate their degradation and oppression of local industry and all manner of human, social and political rights. They did not come here to create or stay. They came here to rule, to subjugate, to get free stuff and to get adherents to their politicised religion. Nothing good came out of it. It impoverished the country destroyed local industry, demoralised a whole population, and left scars everywhere on the land, on people's opinion of themselves. It is not a good thing. I had hoped that your video title would be ironic or satirical but you are misguided, please read a social science textbook or even history from a noted source. Colonialism is by it's very nature destructive, parasitic, and opposed to human values. It is the precursor to imperialism and even modern corporations in many ways but that does not make it just.

I'm really confused by what you mean when you say, "Colonialism." The word has meaning and you seem to conflating complex social systems with "colonialism." That's problematic for a few reasons. It assumes that prior to colonization, the colonized peoples had no social complexity, which is untrue. Complex societies emerged throughout the world, independently, likely connected to the advent of agriculture and sedentary lifestyles during the Neolithic era. Food surplus existed for tens of thousands of years in non-European societies, including those in the Americas. Labor specialization existed throughout the Old and New Worlds tens of thousands of years before the European colonial period. Complex belief systems, energy exploitation, proscribed social hierarchies, monumental architecture... all of these things all existed outside of the context of European colonialism or any other kind of colonialism I'm aware of. It also assumes that without colonialism, the modern world and its conveniences would not exist. That's just a meaningless, counterfactual observation. Perhaps without colonialism, the modern world would have been better? Maybe we would have been exploring other galaxies with advanced technologies or perhaps our environment would be in better condition? We'll never know, because that's not what happened. But to assume we are in a better position now than we would have been if not for colonialism is just not a meaningful, defensible claim. I don't think you really understand human history or the concept of colonialism, because he have a very mistaken impression of what life was like for people before their worlds were colonized. Maybe I'm completely misunderstanding what you're trying to say... but I don't think so. I think you're just wrong.

There is an argument for the colonialism, but this is ain't one. Royalty, priesthood, individual enthusiasts and rich were doing science before colonialism. Class system gave allowance for that. Colonialism on the other hand, reduced the pool of talent, because colonies were intentionally starved and put under such pressure exactly so that they don't have time to think about anything else except food and shelter (and making beautiful culture, because nothing else was available to them). So yeah, a dumb take.

@Level48tt @Level48tt because it's not worth it in a RU-vid comment that he's likely not even going to read. Not doing so and not being able to are two completely separate things. If you want to have an actual debate on the topic I'm down, but don't question the intelligence of a stranger on the Internet when all you've got on them is a lazy comment that was written to express the shock felt after watching this video. I didn't refute the points made since there's no need. Your man's not even right about half of his argument, and it's generally accepted that colonialism was a bad point in history...

@@Fagan422 "I didn't refute the points made since there's no need." no lol, you do have to refute his points to prove yourself right. First argument? Colonialism greatly increased the global living standards and was the pretense for international trade that created the world economy. Im glad my ancestors decided to improve the standards of neighboring countries so that we could do things like create technology and have this conversation. Im sorry you have been fed so much shit information that you are willing to say "its generally accepted" as evidence for your claim lmfao.

@Level48tt so you're just going to ignore the excessive slavery and genocides? Lol okay.. The amount of indigenous people slaughtered because of colonialism is actually atrocious. Entire tribes, cultures, and communities eradicated by western colonists. Yet you and this other guy are trying to label genocide as 'improving quality of living'?? Get a grip guys, seriously.. Makes me wonder who I'm even talking to lmao.

@Sandygeist None of that justifies 400 years of slavery, oppression, and genocide pal, if you really think it does then it's not even worth having this conversation, especially when neither of you can debate anything without throwing personal insults. Your attitude mixed with your opinions speak heaps about your characters.
