It’s odd because....When i DO roleplay. It’s either a battle hardened nord warrior, who lives as a smith and crafter when not fighting, and is very skilled at cooking and beverage recipes.......or a dark elf vampire
@Honudes Gai this is already pretty dense for those that don't know anything about the lore. Introducing the God head would just make things more confusing.
@@USMC_brue The creator of the Elder Scrolls universe. The entirety of the Elder Scrolls is its dream. When it wakes up, it will all be over. Or, atleast thats the theory.
send nukes I like to think that Lorkhan and the padomaic entities are trying to keep the dream going, or delve deeper into it. And that the anuic entities or forces are trying to wake up. Have to think more on it to look for holes in that theory though. But I like the idea.
some people believe that talos is shazarrine. An incarnate of lorkhan or shor, the missing aedra. So yeah, still kinda counts but not really as the 8 divines were just a number of aedras included to appease both man and mer.
Interesting fact about dark elf skin, when azura cursed them for the tribunals betrayal she/he made it so that their skin would be ash colored because it’s actually the ash of their ancestors covering their skin and I think the eyes are red cause it’s the blood of their ancestors either way they are wearing their dead relatives ashes as their skin pigmentation, this is why Dunmer are so close with their ancestors
It's more intersesting cause religious stuff are real in Nirn. If greek mythologie would really exist of earth, it would make the world way more interesting.
@@AnimationCraftFR Preach it man. If the myths of magic and warriors and gods and super strength and immense wisdom and all that stuff was 100% Undeniably real history, and therefore still alive, Fuckin hell we wouldn’t even need games and books and movies about magic and myths. We’d be living it man. Why play as a Nord warrior who eats food that buffs his strength to where he’s a hella strong fighting machine....when you can be one yourself
I haven't played other TES game except for Skyrim so this break down of its history/lore is highly appreciated. This will greatly supplement some info that I don't really understand regarding the races in Tamriel
You will be able to play Oblivion and Morrowind in the more modern engine of Skyrim before TES 6 will come out. These giant mod projects are called Skyblivion and Skywind
Though I knew most of this, I'm impressed by how you managed to explain it all so well in such a short time. Though I would have added at least a bit of info about the Falmer.
Apart from the sacking of Sarthaal and by extension triggering the history that followed, they are a footnote to the general world as we know it. I’m fine with it being shortened to “Nords came and took the land”.
@@waah5901 yeah I’ve only played Skyrim but when I heard him mention them I’m like “I know! They had to move underground so they wouldn’t get killed but then evolved into evil blind uncooked chickens”
The information is solid and all, but still very dense stuff compressed in just one video. If I was fresh to TES I would probably need a few good rewatches. I think for someone who aren’t prepared to sit down pay really good attention, this will need a few more rounds in the ol’ writing room.
I had this problem with the witcher all my friends laughed at me for playing it, now since the tv show they're all obsessed with the show and games. CASUALS
It's been more than a year since I first played Skyrim. I remember being overwhelmed by this video (but it did helped me, I used to watch this video everywhere now and then after reading about the lore), but now it's all so easy and interesting. I just wanna advice all the new players to be patient and enjoy the games and lore slowly, there's no rush, no need to panic that you've played the previous games. Soon you'll be loving how the rabbit hole of lore never ends.
One of my best friends, about 6 years ago lent me his oblivion goty edition and just told me to play it, and he will give me skyrim after I was done... it was fucking awesome... Same thing with the Metal Gear series he has pretty good taste in videogames
DUDE!! This is really amazing. I wish I CLD have seen this before I played Skyrim so long ago. I try and read ALL books in game and that's how I learned lore. But this explains it so so much better than my feeble mind could comprehend thru the books. Thank you my dude!
Well, actually flat out wrong several times, for example the bosmer are not from the aldmer, they're descended from the Old Ehlnofey, and the Nedes aren't from Atmora
@@GoblinLord Actually you are wrong for the time being the most excepted thing right now is that the nedes did come from Atmora. There is nothing yet in the lore to say they are not from Atmora. Also the Bosmer were Aldmer they were the first that left Old Aldmeres and they landed in Valenwood. Old Ehlnofey is Old Aldmeres. They two different names for the same place. The Bosmer would not be called cousins of the Altmer if they were not from the same place.
@@TheBlakamon15 The note was that the bosmer came from the WILD Ehlnofey, not the Old Ehlnofey, those are two completely different groups, the Bosmer would have no reason to make the pact with Y'ffre other than this. Y'ffre gave them a solid form and then the bosmer returned it with following the pact. Bosmer are likely called the cousins of Altmer because the Altmer come from the Aldmer who come from the original spirits, Bosmer came from the original spirits directly, otherwise it'd be a brother race, not a cousin race. Also the Orcs are literally cursed aldmer so why are they not called cousins? that group comes even more directly from the Aldmer than even the bosmer do. The nedes pretty much can't be from atmora while being Nedes, Atmora was pretty much ice and snow, and they seem to be very close to imperials, similar to how Atmorans are close to Nords. The problem with Nedes being from Atmora is that they'd be Atmorans, they wouldn't be Nedes at all, the games seem to make a pretty stark separation of Nedes and Atmorans. Both are early man, but they come from totally different places, Nedes from the heartlands of the modern day cyrodiil giving them a more neutral appearance, a bit brown but mostly olive skin, similar to modern day italians, I'm pretty sure Nedes had that olive look that the Imperials have now, and if the Nedes came directly from Atmora, they'd be much paler and would have stayed that way for much longer. Sure sure, "this is a world of magic" but you gotta understand how evolution works. There's next to no evidence saying they are from atmora so we're really just arguing semantics at this point Edit: I noticed I referred to it as Old Ehlnofey, that's on me, sorry for the mis-communication
@@TheBlakamon15 Forgot to mention in my previous post that this deal with Y'ffre and their former shapeless forms is why they have animalistic features not seen in the other elven races except Orcs (whom have tusks)
I feel like this is probably still an overwhelming amount of information for a newb to process, haha. I DO understand it for the most part - I mean, I've even read the books! But this still got me feeling like, "Wait, go back!" Maybe it's just that understanding ES lore isn't just about having the info... it's a whole different state of mind. I don't mean that in a smug, non-plebeian way. It's just... there are so many fundamental things about it that when stripped bare and plainly stated... don't make any damned sense lol. Well... they do... just not at first. It's not just like being in another world, you have to look at it as you would with a different brain and different logic. Like, picture yourself in the same universe you're in now, but the logic you need to make sense of it is completely unlike the kind you use today. If that makes sense, you're ready to take on ES lore. Otherwise, you'll just wind up like the poor unguarded intellectuals who gazed upon an elder scroll and became blinded by it.
@Gluten tag Van Helsing What you said actually makes sense to me with Christianity as a whole. I'm not religious myself, but my parents have always been Lutheran and one thing I picked up on... just a general aspect of the the belief system, was basically this very intricate higher reality, removed from the rules of the one we typically interact with. In a sense, the latter is not the true reality, but only the surface. It's completely discreet, another layer above and beyond ours. And the model goes all the way down to moral choices. There are God's morals, and then there are man's. Man's morals can be valid but never equal to God's. Where they contradict, God's rules come first and how that all looks on the material side is based off of this more complex internal model that the person has acquired as a matter of course in practicing their faith. There's a whole story happening that you'll never see just breaking down the material facts. So yes, I'd say it's very much steeped in a spiritual mindset. That may actually be the only way to really make sense of it. That was a really great observation!
This is where I'm at right now, I remember playing Morrowind as a kid when the Xbox had just come out and not really understanding any of it. I'm looking for some new content to seek my teeth into and figured I go back and explore this universe as an adult and decided to try out Oblivion first. I'm sure I'll immerse myself into it over time but right now I'm lost as fuck lol
Just started playing Skyrim for the first time (I know I’m a decade late), and this video is very helpful contextualizing a lot of the stuff that confused me. Thank you!
I play Skyrim every now and then to enjoy the atmosphere of the world, so I have no idea about what the heck I’m supposed to be doing or what is the world is. But the lore of the game is amazing
The Oblivion part would've been even funnier if you had included the part with the Argonians during the Oblivion crysis. For all who don't know what I'm talking about: During the Oblivion crysis the Daedra opened Oblivion gates all over Tamriel to invade everywhere. But in Black Marsh - the homeland of the Argonians - the Daedra didn't only have a hard time invading, the Argonians turned the table and invaded Oblivion to keep them away from their land! The Daedra actually closed their own gates to Black Marsh to keep the Argonians out of Oblivion. :D Still the funniest fun fact of 'em all.
Pretty much this. I could feel my brain experiencing a runtime error about the time He started on with the Magna-Ge, and I've been playing Elder Scrolls religiously since Oblivion.
Shit Scott! I'm a 56 year old Skyrim newbie having a bucket load of fun. Your videos are massively useful to me in understanding WTF is going on. So thanks. But man... I hope your applying that adept young brain to real world stuff too. You'd be well on your way to a PHD thesis if your knowledge of anything that's ever happened on planet earth was half as extensive. Yeah, but very useful for a newb nonetheless. Thanks mate.
I really like this content! The only other elder scroll lore videos I can find are formatted either as a walkthrough of gameplay and story line or it’s really overdone as a creepy/mythical video. I just wanna learn the backstory and catch up on parts of it I ignored, while being informed and entertained (: great video, plus it was so visually pleasing
I already knew a shit ton about TES but after watching this a refresher, I found out some stuff I either didn’t know or forgot! Thx! (I’m not a dummy tho)
Elder scrolls lore. The only lore where canon or not does not matter and its lore and story to this day are still expanding and analyzed by the active community, not by the writer. Hell, even one of the highly regarded writers of the lore isn't even part of the tes dev team anymore. Its pretty much an open source literature at this point. Which is what makes it awesome.
I am a huge follower of the lore myself and like to watch these kinds of videos. But honestly I feel like it was a bit to fast, I can see how this might make someone even more confused. What would be great is like a picture type animation like you did when showing the races and talk over that. When you talk over paused gameplay while panning the camera, it feels a bit confusing. But overall great video as always.
My friend suggested Skyrim as I asked her some games I might like and now I’m addicted but I know nothing about the lore. So this is very helpful. Thank you. :3 💙
I've been playing ESO for years on Xbox but I've never played any other elder scrolls games (I tried Morrowind but got lost as hell.) so this should help me as I'm dumb.
Im actually somwhat new to this channel as I subbed to it a week ago, but I actually got into the roleplay aspect of skyrim from playing D&D with my family and it lead me to this channel. Im currently roleplaying as a Khajiit named Dar'Tafiir who is actually named similiarly after a character who I made in ES4 Oblivion as a master thief (without much roleplay involved I just liked stealing stuff) and Dar'Tafiir is her predecessor who came from the cyrodilian Thieves Guild in cyrodil to live a life of crime in the war ridden skyrim seeing great oppurtunity in a war torn land. Also he loves gemstones and shiny things so I have a safe filled with like 100 different gems and jewlery to sell but dont have the perks to invest money yet.
Excellent work for an absolute dummy like me, but those are way too many names (not to mention how difficult they are to pronounce due to their complexity) to remember. P.S.- Bruh, I somehow survived for 5 minutes, it is impossible to compremend.
Would you guys consider doing a video series entirely about the Greg Keyes novels? I just finished reading myself and I want to share their lore with everyone
Arena: Funny man looks for stick Daggerfall: Funny man looks for robot Morrowind: Funny man looks for heart Oblivion: Funny man looks for necklace Skyrim: Funny man looks for lizard
Arena: Eternal Champion Talin, Breton male Daggerfall: Hero of Daggerfall, Breton male Morrowind: Nerevarine, Dunmer male Oblivion: Hero of Kvatch, Imperial male Skyrim: Last Dragonborn, Nord male
considering TESVI has been annouced i was expecting a ending that could also give some expectations about which stories have been left unsolved and what issues should we expect to be explored more deeply in the next game sinces its location has been pretty much confirmed by theories but still a great vid. I also think some actual texts and schemes would make for a more easy learning experience like a timeline
I am sucker for RPG games, played GOW(PS4), witcher 3, Dragon Dogma, Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost of Tusuhima, Horizon zero dawn and many others multiple time, but never in my life touched Skyrim and I feel blessed because I will get experience this masterpiece first time which many people crave for.
So, honest question: how did the barrier between the planes stay strong during the interregnum when there was none of dragonblood on the throne? Like, the whole point of Oblivion was that Uriel Septim VII died and there was nobody of dragon blood on the throne so MD could roflstomp Tamriel, so why, when there was nobody of dragon blood on the throne during the interregnum period, did this not happen?
During the Interregnum of the Second Era, Molag Bal attempted to invade Tamriel, but was beaten by the Vestige. A member of the Dragonguard then sacrificed herself to Akatosh in order to light the Dragonfires in the Dragonfire Cathedral, underneath the Imperial City, which would keep burning until a new Dragonborn Emperor was crowned.
I came across this video because I am curently playing skyrim again. Well it turns out I liked this video already. It seems that I am an lore dummie :D
Not only that. They MUST eat all meat they kill. So if Bosmer kills someone, he MUST eat the whole corpse to it not go to waste. They can't even use wooden tools etc.
Been trying to raise awareness about this game since it was first released back in 11 11 11. I believe that I have already found all that can be found found every chest even the ones below the ground found Chester were hidden in certain dungeons the other people might not have found I found the Elven arrows there in solitude regardless of whether you're level 1 or 50 found one of the dungeons where you can get ebony weapons at level one if you happen to survive the onslaught of draugr deathlords. yes I've even heard of the game breaking exploits that one can do which I no longer do because it just becomes too easy and because it takes too darn long to do the Restoration Loop for different things. I have even used the exploit to stack clothing on oneself but mostly for roleplaying purpose. I got the yellow hooded robes Hood to equip over the White Run guards outfit. The go together quite well. I've even seen glitches that many may not have ever seen on my console every time no matter how many times I reset and reload and start a new character that one Orc Stronghold that is not really a stronghold has a floating potato in a basket it just keeps spinning. I've seen mammoths fly. I've seen a Khajiit Caravan Walking in the Air before suddenly falling to the ground. I've seen guards moonwalk from one area to the other area constantly repeating this motion over and over. I've even pickpocketed a key from a person who keeps asking if I've ever been to the Cloud District and the funny thing is the key does not go to any building that is anywhere in Skyrim. and even though having done all those things I should be absolutely bored out of my mind. I've taken to killing myself in hilarious manners. I've even spoken to Sheogorath during one of fudgemuppets live feeds and he revealed that they toasted some cheese for everyone!
According to most elven mythologies, Lorkhan tricked the Aedra. According to most human mythologies, Lorkhan persuaded the Aedra and didn't trick them at all. Most elves see Lorkhan as an evil trickster god, but most humans see Lorkhan as the benevolent god responsible for Mundus being created.
I've only ever played skyrim (and ESO but wasn't keen) was new to the game when it came out, read so much lore now might aswell have played the older games.
