3. LG LP1017WSR - amzn.to/3cGpxc7

Our analysis of dual hose units: www.consumeran...
In this video we take a closer look at the 14,000 BTU portable air conditioner category. What is the best option? We find that two units stand out among the rest as being the best 14,000 BTU models on the market - the LG LP1419IVSM and NewAir NAC14KWH02.
Surprisingly, the Whynter ARC-14S is not a recommended unit. Despite its dual hose advantage, it still has an actual cooling capacity (SACC) that is well below that of the LG and NewAir.
The Honeywell HL14CESWB, LG LP1417GSR, Frigidaire FFPA1422U1, Black + Decker BPACT14WT, and Honeywell MM14CCS each have an even lower SACC value and it is for this reason that they are also not recommended.

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ru-vid.comUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

You explain the downside of 1 pipe so well the average viewer can’t comprehend how bad 1 pipe is vs 2 pipe. I’ve given up trying to explain how infiltration affects the heat gain I just let them wallow in their own ignorance as they twist themselves in pretzels trying to dispute physics and thermal dynamics. And don’t get me started on the rechargeable ( solar/ built in battery) heat pumps that they say you don’t need any pipes outside 🙄.

Let me tell you something..when it says 8000 BTU ...then it comes into the USA..it is turned into SACC..The Numbers are Lower,like 5100 btu/sacc...Keeping a Kean Eye on those...Lowe had a 10,000 BTU/SACC but it converted into 16,000 BTU without the SACC conversion. AireMax-115-Volt-White-Vented-Portable-Air-Conditioner at lowe and look at the photos. This one is rated for 16,000 BTU but Lowe was selling the lower end of the Numbers ( The SACC ),which it is at 10,000...look at the Reviews for that AC and look at the Box...it will say 16,000 BTU but not BTU/SACC. This is how I figured this out.....I bought a 8,000 BTU AC from Amazon and the Aire on the same day and got both boxes.....then one box says 16,000 BTU and the other says 8,000 BTU...but the energy label is showing 5100 btu/sacc.

Seems like there is a lot of price fluctuation that affect the value of some of these that you're kind of missing out by not saying the price in the video. Right now the Black and Decker one is the lowest SACC to price at $383/7500, summer seasonal prices have increased on all the other ones on the recommended list.

If I have to pick between a 14000BTU (10000SACC BTU) or 12000BTU (10000SACC BTU) and the 12000BTU is $100 cheaper, is there any advantage to getting the 14000BTU?
@consumer-analysis
@consumer-analysis 3 года назад
If they have the same SACC BTUs there's no advantage. Though I would question if the SACC specification is accurate on the 12,000 BTU unit if it's by the same brand as the 14,000 BTU unit.

Both are decent options but not the best options in their respective size classes. In the 14,000 BTU category there are several options with a higher SACC than that of the LP1417GSR (8,000 SACC BTUs). In the 12,000 BTU category there are also options available with higher SACC than that of the LP1217GSR.

I used to have an LG 10,000 BTU window ac which did not cool my room as cold as the Whynter ARC-14S does. I will say that on super humid days, this portable ac does struggle a bit to make my room freezing cold. As for the grille on the back of the ac, should I use weatherstripping to seal it? Covering the exhaust hose makes a huge difference in the cooling capacity! I am not sure if I should cover the intake hose as well. I did cover both hoses last summer and it still cooled, but on humid nights it did seem to work harder to cool so maybe I should just cover the exhaust hose but not the intake hose?

@@consumer-analysis This is a good review. I have had the air conditioner for almost 19 months now in New York City and it works great. It is enough to chill my 320 square foot bedroom down to 70 degrees. On a day that is 90-95 degrees, the air conditioner can take 2-3 hours to cool my room from 83 degrees down to 75 degrees. After several (7-10) hours of running, it is a very gradual descent from 74 degrees to the upper 60s. My apartment is 750 square feet so it cools it somewhat but not entirely.

@johncu7007
@johncu7007 2 года назад
This was a “decent” review, but one BIG omission (or lacking) is coverage of the condensation [water 💦] that this units handles. Does it mostly expel most (or all) of the condensation water?, or does it deliver a lot to the bottom of the unit (where the exit/water plug is?). This factor is IMPORTANT as we (customers/users) want to know if we’ll be having to be EMPTYING (constantly) the water accumulated at the bottom water reservoir?, or will it [the unit] mainly evaporate the water vapor “out” (of/using the air exit hose system). The video didn’t cover this feature (AT ALL!😡👎) - so a B minus on the “grade” of this video. This matter is a BIG deal! (Depending upon which part of the country you’re in), because if you are in a “High” humidity area then your A/C unit WILL put out a TON of water💧(maybe too much 🌊 for a standard [hose] evaporation system can handle). And this is precisely what happened in my situation - where I have a Whynter A/C system. Granted, it is not as “efficient” as the LG, but it has two (2) Exit [water] plugs (one at the bottom and one at the top). The plugs at the bottom of these units are VERY inefficient and impractical, as they will always “Leak” if you have to empty them (and this is REALLY a Pain, if you have to do this, Often😡👎). But if the water plug is at the Top then you can [more] easily attach a water hose to route this water outside (and thus, NOT “continually” empty the water created [again, in the common A/C condensation process]). I hope this one fact [factor] will help others out there 😄👍
