Thank you so much for this I recently graduated with my bachelor's in graphic design but this just shows you that you never stop learning even when you get your degree!
OH MY GOD! THANKS! That tip @ 4:00 is gonna change my motion design life. Never knew this was so easy. I wish I googled it instead of just assuming that's how it worked!
Thanks! We have included in this script all the essential features we use every day. Hope you won't need much more of other scripts opened permanently :)
If your project is laggy after converting to shape layers, delete the group1 which is in every group 1 within the contents of each layer. In other words so I make myself clear: in every layer go to contents>groupx>and delete group1. You need to do this for every group in every layer.
In the video, he said that the tools he's sharing are free. However, when I click the link, I can see them costing USD 40 or USD45. Are these not free anymore? :)
One video that answers questions I have since 2009. Although I don't need it now but it does feel good knowing this. So shout out to Motion Design School for creating this. Appreciate the each line of helpful tips written and deliver by the charismatic host!
Thank you for this video tutorial. Very helpful indeed. What is the downside of working with shape layers instead of illustrator layers in AE in terms of processing speed? Overlord definitely is the greatest tool out there. Is there a way of avoiding system slowdown when working with shape layers for big projects? Any tips and tricks to tackle this issue would be highly appreciated.
Would love to see a comparison / conclusion on this topic. I know that loads of shape layers drastically reduce processing power, but then again so do (continuously rasterized) Ai Layers as they're 'continuously' refreshing vector data. But assume shape layers would act & result the same.. Though a single Ai layer of a vector texture would render a lot quicker than the same texture converted to a shape . Perhaps they are essentially identical only when they're continuously rasterized? Some clarity or conclusion would be great
So unfortunate (for me) that the Motion Tools plugin is no longer free... Maybe change that in your video-description or, even better, in your store (back to free! :D) But other than that, great video!
Holy Crap I have never watched a video of you before and duuuude I got scared when you suddenly popped up that near to the camera holy crap. But thank you for the good video!
hey there this vid was absolutely helpful the art board corners in shape layers were annoying me motion tool set is very helpful thanks for making it available for us
What is the advantage to turning vectors into shapes when in aftereffects. I know it's probably more control, but could someone be granular, and tell me specifics. :)
Usually just animating the static/rigid shape of illustrator files isn't enough. Converting them into shape layers let's you animate the individual curves and anchor points.
There are both of advantages and disadvantages. For simple illustrator files converting them to shapes is better to gain more control and animation within the shape layer. For large complex heavy illustrator files I dare not convert them to shapes as it will slow down the whole scene. Rather leave them just as illustrator files and aftereffects renders the scene much faster.
i have had this 1 worry since forever!! what is better for time line performance, working directly with illustrator layers in aftereffects or converting each illustrator layer to transparent png's and importing them into aftereffects and working that way. would appreciate all expert coments please.
Great video, thanks! (And great plugins, bought both.) Question: Do you know of a 'quick & easy' way to import multiple Ai artboards as separate layers/comps in Ae?
Thanks for this helpful tutorial 👌 I have a question about importing illustrator files to aftereffects I designed a shape with transparency layers in Illustrator but after importing the file to aftereffects, all the effects and transparency of the layers will disappear. I tried many ways to import the file and save the transparency of the layers but they didn't work!🙁🤯 Thank you so much 🙏
Help me please! Im doing everything right, but the vectors still pixeled when I import them to After Effects. I dont know what to do to open with high quality
When import file AI to AE i'm always got problem, like convert create shape from vector layer but the selection is not fit the object, always big like artboard AE
Nice tutorial. Just wondering if you guys can recommend a laptop for a smooth after effects / motion designs playback and fast render. I want to learn after effects and I need a machine to use for motion graphics and probably 3D. I'm thinking of getting the new 16in M1 Max MacBook. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
The web page for the Motion Script Tools seems to be broken. It prompts, accepts, and confirms an email subscription, but never provides download or send of the script(s). The page also indicates a link for modification of settings that does not exist on the page.
Is it a way to import with overlord and keep the stroke profiles from Illustrator? In some of my work I have nice, tapered lines I want to import as they are. In after effects the strokes go back to standard mode, without the taper.
Everytime I try to import grahpics charts it´s perfect until I see the lenght of the compositions/layers. They are 1 frame long. Sometimes after creating the shape layer it gets fixed as I can expand it as much as I want, but the rest of the times it gets impossible. Does anyone know other solution?
@@yashwantvernekar8622 yes, you should sign in to your google account. But if you still have issues you can write to our support team and we will send the script to you manually: support@motiondesign.school
Thank you for this valuable video. When trying to convert vector layers to shape layers in AE, I get a message that says "Not all layers were converted because of empty or unsupported content". Any help on that? Thanks.
5:36 when I try to do this with a filled shape after converting it into an shape from vector layers, i move the outline and the fill separately ( i get a group for each one and hence they're separate) anyway to go about this? any help is really appreciated. thank you!
my mean is I design a word with effects like drop shadow or tranfsorm effect or inner glow ... in illustrator and want to import this word with effects in after effect how can I do it thanks
how do you update the art after you create the shape layers? The old way with layers you can update the art by saving the illustrator file... but once it is converted to shape layers it becomes and original shape to After effects with no longer attached to the illustrator file. this become tricky once you start doing lots of keyframes...maybe you dont care about that..but it has caused me some headaches because in production artwork client changes... and I could just see the flexiblity of shape layers will cool in theory...didnt work well unless I wanted to reanimate every thing from scratch... and you could copy past key frames..but that can get very tedious as well... it is much easier if I just divide up the shape layers in illustrator so when I bring them in every object has its own layers and nothing needs to be converted to shape layers. and I can update artwork easily and just save illustrator file and it updates in AE and all of the axis points and nulls stay and I dont have to copy paste anything...it just updates.. unless there are major changes. then you would have to restart anyway...
