We are finally getting around to taking a look at my Traska Summiter. Perhaps the best budget Rolex Explorer Alternative out there. I jumped on the Kickstarter, and I'm glad I did. One of the most comfortable watches I've owned. At 38mm wide and powered with a Miyota 9039. Definitely a must-see.
A couple of notes:
1) I originally planned on reviewing this a while ago, but at the last min decided to do the Beaufort Aerotimer instead. My reasoning was that the Aerotimer was in stock, while the Traska Summiter was listed as having more available in July.
Well here we are in July and evidently, the demand has been so great there aren't any. In fact, they have shut down the waitlist. So looks like this may turn into another Helm type situation. So if you are interested sign up for the waitlist and keep your fingers crossed.
2) If you check out the Lume Comparison Timelapse it almost looks like the second hand is going backward. Pretty Trippy, but all an optical illusion. No clue how that works, but I might look into it. I know I set the camera for 15-second intervals, and it's running 24 frames per second. So might have to try that again to see what happens.
Note: Some of the links above are affiliate links, I am an Amazon, AVI-8, Armilla, Aliexpress, Spinnaker, eBay and Phoibos affiliate so I would earn a small commission on qualified purchases. But most of the time Amazon is just the best source to link something just to get a look. I always encourage you to shop around and find the best price.

Another great review. Those side shots, of the case profile, are perfect. I think the Summiteer skews decidedly to the casual side of GADA, particularly with the second hand, in any available color, and the matte, printed dial. I'm holding out for the upcoming releases from Nodus (Contrail 2, if they offer a fixed bezel), or Halios (Universa) as my GADA watch.

I think you made the right choice on the seconds hand colour. It gives it just enough pop. And your observation regarding the cleanliness of the other hands is spot on.

Traska is a very interesting brand. Their watches have always an original design and the quality is there, for a reasonable price. This Summiteer is no exception.

Nice review. I have the Currant Freediver. Got it late last year. Got the grey with steel bezel. It’s a great watch, nice clean design. This version has 200m we, the original had 100m. It’s actually thin considering it has an NH38. This Summiter is nice. However, I could not help notice in the macro shots that they missed some spots when they painted the dial. Looks like it was spray painted. I’m sure it can’t be seen with the naked eye.

Another great review, buddy! The finish on the hands will hopefully be improved down the road but the missed opportunity here is not lengthening the hour hand to almost reach the edge of the inner circle.
@RelativeTime

Hopefully it should be an easy fix. It is one of the first Kickstarter watches put out during the pandemic. So it's possible that it was just an oversight during production and QC never caught it. Pretty hard to see unless you zoom in.

Hey Shane, thanks for the review, which is one that I have been looking forward to. The field watch type was never my favorite style (especially because of the usual missing date), but it has grown on me, especially after watching your Orient-Seiko-Hamilton video a couple of times. Looking at different types, I have thought that the Traska looked like a professional and thorough product, homaging the Rolex without going too close. There is of course some way from a 100 dollar Bliger and a 500 dollar Traska, but I have not really seen anything better value for money in between. Take care.

Given I've never been a fan of the Explorer, needless to say this one isn't on my wish list. However if you do like it, looks like a well made watch. Glad you enjoy it, which lets be honest is the most important aspect of wearing a watch. What others think really doesn't matter. Very good review as always 👍

Very nice watch... Definitely nice with the red second hand. The handset shape is beautiful, but I agree they should be better finished. I would go with applied numerals, but overall a really sweet package. Perfect size, too. I like the metal coating, curious to know if it holds up long term. Congrats on the nice pick up!

Awesome watch with nearly perfect dimensions and shapes. It has caught my attention since they showed up as prototype. The only thing that stopped me from ordering are the hands. I wish they had a different design, but that's totally subjective and most people will probably love them as they are. Thank you for the review 🤙

Great, in-depth review! I have the same watch, same colorway. After wearing it for the past 4 months I can say it is probably the most comfortable watch I own. I agree, it does wear a bit larger than 38mm. It feels more like a 39mm or 40mm. I have a 7" inch wrist and it looks perfect. The scratch resistant coating does work. Every watch I own has scratches on the clasp from desk diving. Not this one. The bracelet is very well made, and is very similar to an Oyster.

Relative Time something most folks miss is how regulated out of the box they are. My FreeDiver with an NH 35 is steady at +1.5 and the Summiteer with the Miyota 90series at +2. I have several of each caliber and they get a “pedestrian “+-5 at best.

That logo on the crown seemed very familiar to me,so I checked my watch boxes and found a Starking hi beat automatic in a typically fashion watch style,The Traska logo is slightly more elaborate but still close to that of the Starking.I remember laughing as I ordered it,a hi beat automatic for $19.00 surely not.When it arrived I was surprised to find that it was true.Obviously a base metal case but I may have been lucky,the damned thing still works albeit with a noisy rotor..............................

If you look closely you will see that the print of the 9 is not perfect. Looks like something spilled into the blue circle inside the 9. And are there little sploches of paint at the edges of the 3, or is that lint? IDK man, I think this one has some QC problems. I am interested in the mint diver as well (if it ever comes back in stock) but so far I am not that impressed with the Summiteer. Hopefully these kinds of problems don't spill over to the other models.

Not bad, like the compact size, drilled lugs and hardened steel. But this Traska logo doesn’t do it for me, the see through case back is irrelevant and the movement is so-so. Give me the Sinn 556, with its cleaner Flieger look, 200 meter depth rating, better finished dia+hands and slightly upgraded movement

That's the least "custom" of custom rotors I've ever seen. Respectable watch, good size and specs, but the dial/hands are just a little bit off, a little bit lifeless. Felt the same away about the Citizen Tough: technically a well made watch with respectable specs but the whole package doesn't spark any joy.

Why do you keep pronouncing it Summiter? It's driving me crazy. Had to turn off the review.
@RelativeTime
@RelativeTime 3 года назад
Cause I'm an idiot. It's not a word I can ever remember hearing in real life, and for whatever reason when i see it my brain just automatically thinks Summiter. Like it's a Surfer for the mountains... I dunno, it's the best I can explain. What's worse is that even though I now know how it's supposed to be pronounced, I've still called it that in some more recent videos, and I don't catch it until its too late. That's the thing with RU-vid, once something is out, it's out. So all I can do is own up to it, and roll with the punches. Cheers!
