I was the one that sent this to Rob. After a full 8 day field test in Hawaii (in and out of the water everyday) hiking across lava fields, it still looked straight out of the factory. Not a micro swirl to be found. Basically just like my Freediver still a year later. That scratch resistant coating is no joke! The attention to detail and build quality of these watches are what make them well worth the price, not the movement.
Ace Baldwin Fitness I thought I saw a FB post with this on your wrist, then when Rob said it was a prototype I thought I may have been mistaken. Haha. It’s cool you got to check out a prototype unit, couldn’t help but wonder how this compares to the Monta Triumph. I definitely like the simple look of this watch.
I own their previous release, the Freediver, so I can speak to some elements that have popped up on the comments: the hardened steel is the real deal. I’ve had my Freediver since January and it’s been knocked around, bracelet has been scraped across surfaces, and it’s been well worn, not coddled, yet it looks the same as the day I got it. Not a hint of a mark on it. As for my two cents on the movement vs price dilemma, I think total package is what counts. The movement is only one aspect. My Freediver, again, shines in the details that all come together. I actually appreciate the choice of the Miyota because a) it’s not the low end Mitota but a higher grade, and b) I think it was chosen to hit that sub-10mm watch height and achieve that total vision. I haven’t had any experience with a Sellita movement as an alternative, but if my experience with lower end ETA is any indication I’m happy they went Miyota! Also, not sure if Traska regulates before shipping but my Freediver NH38 has been happily chugging away at +5 seconds/day since it got it, so they may not be just shipping a quickly installed movement into the case. Definitely speculative on my part though. Anyway, sorry for the lengthy comment!
Will get this watch with the black dial, it looks great! The size will turn some people off, but for me 38mm is the largest I will wear (I have a 15 cm or 6 inch wrist). Also, the thin case was a deciding factor. Early Kickstarter price is $400, better than $500 at least...
I have to agree with you on that. I used to only look at divers until I bought a Hamilton Khaki mechanical and I was hooked on the field watch and this really fits the bill.
I came across this one a while ago as they have previously worked on a diver I was looking at. This explorer type looks simple and awesome, specs and esthetics. I've emailed them at once, asking if I could already pay for one 😂
I watched this and then the video published the week before about the Tisell 9015EX. It's really hard to unsee this watch however. Such a nice, refined design with a smart, modern take on this genre.
The right size. There are customers,of course, that will think it is too small; and that is why I always think that watch companies should offer at least two size options. I have 18 cm (7 inches) wrist circumference and 38 or 39 mm looks just great, 40 is largest limit and perhaps a good compromise for all wrist sizes. So, larger than that, watches would be good for greater than 18 cm circumferences.
Looks like great piece. I really like Myota movements. This is going to be a really great Explorer alternative. Unfortunately, the lume leaves a lot to be desired.
Nice Tudor Ranger homage. I do like the case size and finish, the dial, female end-links, clasp, and the no nonsense three-handler design. However, in my opinion, a Kickstarter price of $399, or lower, would be more attractive. A $500 Kickstarter price for this watch warrants a Swiss movement.
It's really nice but 500 dollars is too much for a Miyota movement which can be found in Tisell 200 to 230 dollars for the 9000 series. For 500, I would expect an ETA 2824 or something like that.
Impressive. The bracelet and clasp really add value, especially if they apply the same proprietary finish as to the case. I find that these bracelets are much more prone to marring than my watch cases themselves... Yep, same coating on bracelet as case! That Miyota 9039 is new to me. I wish that VAER had offered this movement on their complication free automatics, rather than using the 9015. That way I would not have to worry about the danger zone when setting the time on the VAER automatic. What is the WR on this watch? 100 meters. Their website indicates that the exhibition caseback is sapphire.
Just watched Jody's video on the green and I'm really interested in this. Been looking for a new everyday watch that can do almost everything and this is definitely a contender, love the Explorer and was looking at the Sinn 556 so I think this is a great middle point for me m
Simple field watch design. I think it works pretty well. The unestablished branding on the dial and logo leaves a lot to be desired for the price tag. But maybe it will be a good start for the company.
Its hard to say that Traska is not established in the microbrand world. Their Freediver was well received and sold out rather fast when it was released.
Awesome watch. Wish they went with a classic silver seconds hand. Would’ve given it a cleaner, more subtle look. A white dial version would be epic too.
Whew! That logo looked awfully familiar, but I had to check. It is similar to a certain Chinese brand watch I won’t mention by name. It is not the same logo, but it sure was close😅
I miss the days (not that long ago) when the default price for rather basic watches WASN'T $500. But I guess they're a microbrand and they have their reasons.
I think they had the same coating on their Freediver, the watch I regret not getting the most (stainless case, sapphire bezel, mint dial. such a beauty). So some experiences should be out there already. Anyone? I saw this one in their newsletter a few days ago but idk. It looks nice but also a little boring perhaps? Cheers man.
$375.00...probably would buy it. Still looking of the rolex explorer alternative...the usual suspects like Alpha, Parnis, Sarb 003 don't appeal to me. this might be it.
I think it would’ve looked nicer and more balanced with the 12 instead of reversed triangle. Also the red seconds is too much. Not a fan of the design pattern on the clasp. Cheapens the watch. Also, red seconds tip would’ve been better. Dimensions are superb.
It is a pretty good value proposition, but I don't like the details of the dial The arabic numerals annoy me in their sizing, proportions and spacing. They should have hired a graphic designer to design the dial.
@@andrei-cosmin.popa85 That is the one I had in mind. Very comparable, yet 1/3 the price www.oceanicawatches.com/store/p4/Oceanica_OP-1_Sunburst_Blue_Dial_Automatic_Type_A.html?fbclid=IwAR0jY9Xt7nicP33wZQqHhRQsCD3-X2LL2sWdYYj_BEhX1BljvAivjvxuQ6g
