Hi Josh, thank you for your excellent review. I received my cage with all accessories you recommended today, and I am very happy with the products. Well thought through and way ahead of small rig and others.
Thanks for sharing this. The 8Sinn cage for the S5 is really nice as well. I bought one for mine and I pretty much have it set up the same way that you have your Nitze set up. I added a wooden NATO rail side handle to mine as well. The 8Sinn cage is a premium-built cage that looks great, is rugged, offers a lot of protection, and doesn't block access to the camera. It's a bit on the pricey side compared to a lot of other cages but it's worth every penny. All connections are tight with plenty of attachments are available from 8Sinn. It too has a clamp for the HDMI plug. I would great if they sent you one to test out.
Hey! Sounds like a really good option for S5 users - I'll have to check it out! It seems that there are more and more options coming about now for the S5 and that to me is fantastic. Haha, let's hope one day they stumble across my channel ;D
I didn’t! You’re right, damn I always miss something important 😂 the screen is able to fully articulate with the Nitze cage - but of course bear in mind that the cable will naturally block a portion of the screen if it’s flipped 180 degrees :)
It's a pretty good comparison, thanks! However, as a S1 user I end up just attaching a handle to the camera or using it in its default form for handheld work. No gimbals needed, just as you said. Cage is definitely useful for attaching handle, mic and monitor together though :)
Hi Josh - does the Nitze Mini HDMI Clamp accommodate the USB C cable as well as HDMI? The smallrig version doesn't let you connect a USB C cable without forcing it to be at a slight angle.
Hey Josh, awesome video. I just picked up a new Panasonic S5 today! This channel definitely helped with my decision. I was wondering which SD cards you are using? Is it worth getting a UHS ii?
Hey Andrew! Thanks for the kind words - really hope you're enjoying the S5 so far! I do use a UHSii card and a UHSi card for the S5 - I have these ones: SD Cards (UHS-1) UK - amzn.to/2QTVKX3 US - amzn.to/3doDlZN DE - amzn.to/2Po5acV SD Cards (UHS-ii) UK - amzn.to/3w89ddQ US - amzn.to/3fqQGUg DE - amzn.to/31BJMn1
Thanks for this video Josh. I'll order this Nitze cage. Which external recorder do you use? If I want to edit videos in Resolve, do you suggest I use a Black Magic recorder? Thanks for the great videos for Panasonic! I like how the clamp protects the micro HDMI.
Thanks for the kind words! If you're using Resolve then I'd go for the BM Video Assist. I use FCPX so naturally I went with the Atomos Ninja V for the ProRes RAW!
Hi Josh. Great videos, watch them often. Re cages, just watched your Lumix XLR video and wonder what you do to accommodate this with your rig setup? Thanks in advance!
Hi Josh, I've got an S5 as well tho I really want to shoot RAW 6k therefore I'm probably going to get the Ninja V. The thing is, I'm mainly a gimbal shooter (RSC2) so my questions are: How can I use the V? Do I get the cage and put it on the the camera? Do I put just the camera without a cage on the gimbal, get a long cable and put the monitor on the side of the gimbal? Do I do the former but with a cage and HDMI clamp? Thanks in advance! Love your content man!
Hi, thank you very much, these videos are a gift. I agree with you that it is better Nitze, the problem I see is that with the top handle, you can't put the XLR sound adapter DMW-XLR1E. I wonder if smallrig has thought about that. Regards
I do like the placement of the monitor on the top handle. Might have to get this for my smallrig cage. Thanks for sharing your setup! If you want something a little lighter for simple stuff or fitting in a small bag, I like to use the nicey rig L-bracket. Comes with a little cold shoe mount which is kinda nice.
The handle is what makes it for me. It’s actually really nice to use and I love where everything sits with it. Yeah mate I’ve used L brackets in the past, super useful! Are there any decent ones out for the S5 yet?
@@JoshCameron three legged thing makes some nice looking universal ones. i like the niceyrig one like i mentioned, simply for the cold-shoe piece. (smallrig has a 1/4 20 thread). And it has the gap to fit the tilty screen. Less bulky than a cage in certain scenarios. I'm sure there's some i haven't seen yet!
Hi Josh can you tell if the Nitze HDMI clamp would fit the SmallRig cage( I see you have the SmallRig cage too) ... looks like it would.... and if so I think they would get a lot of business from SmallRig cage users! I got the top handle like yours but ditched it for the longer top dado and clip on handle. So easy to take on and off ! Cheers and thanks in advance:-)
Hey Josh ihave the S6 andSmarig cage. I also added the micro hdmi to full hdmi adapter and tbe adapter is then secured by the smallrig cable clamp. Ihave however purchased tube Nitze Top handle as it seem a better option. All the other accessories are all smallrig. I was hoping Kondor Blue might bring out a cage. But will have to see.thanks and nice video bro
Hey Josh finally got the Nitze top handle and its great the arri with locating pins version fits nicely on my smallrig cage. Loving the S5. The GH5 was a great camera but the S5 and full frame sensor and dual iso makes it a amazing camera . Thanks again bro for the great content.
Josh I have question 🙏🏽 I have the Panasonic s5. Do you think instead of buying a new gimbal, I should buy the atomos ninja V & a proper hand held cage, I shoot most of my work handheld.. what do you think?
I think getting a cage and a decent monitor would be where i'd start if I shot handheld mainly to be honest! I mainly use my S5 in a cage handheld too :)
Suppose you were buying your first camera , what would you buy ? Panasonic S5 or Fujifilm X-T4 Pls let me know your thoughts, Thank you and Wonderful video as always! :)
Hey Josh. Great content you are creating around the S5! Do you experience any latency on the hdmi output? For me it is almost unusable because it gets really laggy and distracting. Can it be a problem of the cable? No issues whatsoever on the Sony a6000 or a61000... I've seen some videos on the GH5 in which lag is noticeable, but nothing on the S5 yet. Thanks in advance!
Thanks dude! Umm, maybe a tiny tiny amount of lag but nothing too noticeable for me! I'm always using external monitors and I get by just fine... maybe it's the cable you're using not being quick enough for the data read?
@@JoshCameron Thanks! I'll try it, but nonetheless even in 8bit 420 FHD it is much higher than in th Sony Alpha line with the same cable. I'm not sure whether the hdmi output is affected by the recording modes or if it is constant, though. For static or gimbal shots it's not much of a problem, but for handheld moving shots with focus pulling it gets very distracting.
Hi Josh. I wanted to know if it is possible to use the Nitze Mini HDMI Clamp with the smallrig cage. Also, I would like to know your thoughts on which of the 3 clamps works better, the Tilta, the smallrig or the Nitze one. Which looks sturdier for you? Since I'm planning to buy the S5 and a cage, but it is pretty important to me to have the best hdmi clamp possible! Would hate if that port breaks lol
I still think it's one of the better options, I still prefer it to the SmallRig options. I would say though, if you have the money for it then the tilta cages are great :)

Te using your handle at the left SIDE horizontal y. Low your monitor near the campera
I really like the small rig cages for this camera but the micro hdmi clamp for the smallrig impedes the use of the flip out display. The Nitze solution seems to address this more elegantly.
Hey, really enjoy your channel. Your S5 videos have been a huge help so thanks sincerely for that. I just grabbed an S5 brand new direct from Amazon with the 20-60lens and a extra battery for £1180.. am I right in thinking that's a really good deal!?. I was a bit unsure stil am kinda.
Hi Josh, can you confirm that with the Nitze, there is no need to remove the right strap holder on the camera body? I assume yours were removed from using the Smallrig previously. Thanks!
Also, can I ask if swivel works well on this monitor holder N54-F1 ? There are times during self-filming when you want to see yourself on the monitor. Thanks Josh.
@@JoshCameron Appreciate your replies Josh! I'm still new in videography, I'll get the cage once I go for a monitor. You take care and keep on churning great content 😄
I have the S1 with the SmallRig cage, and about a month or 2 ago I bought the Nitze top handle without knowing a thing about them, been very happy with the quality, also bough the monitor holder. The only thing I have to point is that, the Nitze Nato Rails from the handle and from the monitor holder are not compatible and that's a shame.
all nitze brand? or different? i found for example tilta has some propietary things to their nato stuff for example . but can be bypassed by adding tops or similar
Really glad to hear you’re happy with their products too! A rather unknown brand really but have really high quality accessories. Ah really? That’s a shame! Was it all Nitze branded ?
@@iamchristianconcha All Nitze, the handle rail is thicker than the one on the monitor holder, so you can't switch between them. If using the thinner rail that comes with the monitor holder, the handle can't attach and doesn't hold in place.
@@JoshCameron Yes, the handle rail is thicker than the one on the monitor holder, so you can't switch between them because the monitor holder can't slide into that rail. If using the thinner rail that comes with the monitor holder, the handle can't attach and doesn't hold in place.
Trying to order the S5 cage from them using your link, but looks like they don't have a secure checkout. No SSL certificate on the page where you enter cc info.
@@JoshCameron Hey, all good. I emailed them and they quickly made a Paypal order for me. I paid and they shipped it with DHL tracking number. Gets here in Canada in about 7 business days. Wow! They are fast!! And their customer service is pretty darn awesome. Went from emailing them to receiving shipping info in less than 24 hours! Thanks for recommending them, can't wait to try it out on my S5!! Keep making great content, it's very helpful and entertaining to watch. All the best!
High ! I have tried to get in contact with the Nitze support since yoy published this review. At least 5-10 times. No respond and by 2 different "mail" connections. Are they still alive or what ? I want to buy but can't without any help what so ever. I think I have to abandon Nitze by now for some who communicate with their possible customer. I also has tried to do a right match/marriage for my needs and Lumix S5. Do you have any recommendation for any supplier who cares ?
Hahaha I still need to slow down! Check my last video and see if i'm still too fast ;D I have indeed, but haven't had the chance to try their products yet!
One moore thing ! For us, could be moore then just I, who refuse to buy through Amazon for several resons, could you give any else information about where to buy the kit that you propose ? Or, at least specify the diferent articels. Oh... I forgott to tell how good your thaughs and reviews are 😉
@@JoshCameron Okey, but then I have to refuse to buy, at least I . In the long run we all loose on the monopoly trend. I do understand your need to recomend the "easiest" way to buy but we has to do anything about the monopoly betting in the long run. It drains out the creative inventors. I stop there about the backgrund to my comment ..... but I have opinions. Thanks for the answer.
Yeah small rig works just fine, he needs to be honest about how you can use whatever handle you want on either cage. He makes it sound like the Nitze handle only works with the Nitze cage.
Can any monitor holder be used on this and are there any decent alternatives you know of? The Nitze Monitor Holder is not available at any of the links. Thanks.
The link to the handle is not the same as you have. This is the confusing differens. You have the Nato quick release. We come to unother handle mounting. M
@@JoshCameron thats fair you didn't, however it does come across as though you're mixing the a review between the cages and the handles. And those two handles aren't in the same price bracket
