My guitar teacher is alway on me to sing or hum what I want to play, and my fingers will follow. Once I got over my aversion to hearing my own voice it was really helpful. As a bonus it helps my singing ability, such as it may be.

It takes courage to get up on stage like that and then being filmed demands yet more courage. Kudos to the volunteer.

Great video! It is the most natural thing to sing. The voice is near the heart and then you play with the heart and not just with the head.

In all endeavours, there seems to be a small minority of people who, as we say in my family, possess the "Teaching Bone", where they are naturally great at teaching concepts to others. These people are instantly distinguisheable from those without upon hearing the first few ideas they bring across. I've seen it everynow and then throughout my whole scientific academic life, and I must say, YOU possess the Teaching Bone aswell! It is a wonder to learn from you sir, I'm so glad i stumbled upon your channel! Rock on :D

She actually was kinda getting it at then end there when he asked her just to play randomly in the pentatonic and sing along. Good for her! Man I'd be so nervous up there trying to do that in front of people and cameras. But her hand position worries me a bit, her wrist was bent in a way that I think could cause her some injuries in the future. Hopefully she's still working at it and has sorted out some of those finer details of playing!

I also picked up on that point - very, very interesting. I've been wondering about the underlying concept of the pentatonic, and why it is so widely used.

She's in front of a crowd of a few hundred people... ALL of them musicians. Several of them very successful pro musicians. People underestimate how nerve-wracking such an audience may be. Honestly, she's faring quite well.

@@MusicTheoryForGuitar I agree people do, but not me. My disappointment comes from the fact that by her not following directions - I'm not talking about mistakes - she confused me and made it way more difficult for me to learn. It's a difficult subject, which is related to the most efficient way to learn. Patients with brain injuries often use error-less learning in their rehab. Most of us use trial and error, mistakes being inevitable. I've been in college classrooms where the professor thinks the best use of the time is to demonstrate something with a student who muddles through. The best lecturers I've ever heard at scientific presentations tell you what they're gonna say, say it, and tell you what they said. The teacher was patient and no doubt a good teacher. But as an audience member, I would have like a clearer and shorter presentation. But still it was a great lesson. I gave it a like. Here's the bottom line. Because of the presentation, while I know the material of value to me, I don't remember the method. Remember when he said it was better to do Y then X, than X then Y. I will have to re-watch the video to see which is which. But I will re-watch it.

basic melody comes from from triads and voice leading, thats why C,F,G progressions r so important in ear training, and yes guitarists r lousy at repeating sequences of notes on the instrument, even if they come up with an interesting lick, they cant repeat it, so yes make em sing it, oh and if u cant repeat a melody with your voice, u shouldnt be a musician nor recording engineer!!!!
