This guy is normal. I like it. He doesnt care if there is an ingredient that still isnt ripe, and then he improvises from it. Very good. And im making this recipe 2moro. Thank you so much!
There’s actually a genetic explanation for the people who can’t stand cilantro and they think it tastes like soap. They have a different receptor for the major flavor compound in cilantro, so the brain interprets the flavor as soap instead of cilantro. It can be worked around for some people but not all. Talking about knives, you’re actually more likely to cut yourself with a dull knife than a sharp one. It takes more effort to use a dull knife and that can lead to more injuries or knife slipping.
John, I’ve just discovered you and already am a huge fan. Great sense of humor, super natural in front of the camera, and, oh, did I mention seriously cute? Your hubby is a lucky guy.
I’m so sad your avocados weren’t ripe! These look delicious, and I just know the avocado would’ve been the cherry on top. Also, I feel bad for anyone born with the “cilantro tastes like soap” gene. 🤣 love your recipes and videos! 💕
3:30 I used to be JUST LIKE you when it came to cleaning the 'stalks' out. But what I learned? The 'stalks' (or stems as they're rightly named)? Harbor the *MOST* taste! Chopped well with the leaves? You'll get the most out of this great plant.
LOVE the sound effects! We eat keto at our house and do our fish tacos a little differently. First, grind up some pork rinds in the food processor until fine like bread crumbs. Then add a packet of fajita seasoning to the pork rinds. Brush the fish of your choice (we like haddock) with some avocado mayo and then dip in seasoned pork rinds and bake. Our tortillas are usually some type of lettuce or if we make them ourselves we use a combination of almond and coconut flour, psyllium husk powder, baking powder egg whites, salt and water. Put small balls of dough in a tortilla press to form tortillas. Then remove and cook as usual. Yummy. Although we're living a keto lifestyle, I still love to bake for others. Just made a Lemon Meringue Pie Cheesecake that was a huge hit. Thank you for all the wonderful recipes and videos.
Thank you so much for your perfect recipe. My husband, who partly works in Los Angeles, asked me for fish tacos. I've tried to cook them here in Russia as you recommended and it works!
Referring to scallions as "green onions" and dealing with extremely under-ripe avocados? One could swear you were a fellow Canadian. This looks delicious, John. Love from Canada.
Dang you have the mexican tortilla flipping skill! Just got to the point in video where you mentioned your mama is Mexican 😍🤗 no wonder! those real tacos! And talk of crema lol looooove it!
Pleaseeeeeee put the cilantro stalks in anything all of the cilantro flavor comes mainly from the stalk, also the more you chop up the stalks the more flavor will release you can tell when you’ve done it correctly when you smell the cilantro, do not leave the stalks out you truly don’t know what you’re missing my friend!
I saw what you did there with that radish. 🤐🤗 Someone at your house is not going to enjoy a fish taco. 😄 Fabulous, John. I need a clone of you to work in my kitchen. 👍
This is actually really close to how we prepare fish tacos here in Baja California! nice and tasty. btw cant believe your husband doesnt like cilantro, its so delicious!
Just made this for Valentine's Day Dinner. This guys knows what he's talking about. The only difference was that I just mixed in the radishes with the mixture and added crumbled feta cheese on top of the tacos. Otherwise great recipe. Roasting the tacos on the open flame was a nice touch too. Turned out awesome.
Thank you for sharing your recipe only thing I got to point out when you're cutting jalapenos it's really good to wear gloves , only reason I'm saying that is my past experience with jalapenos, bell peppers or any other peppers they're hot period, and the oils from the seeds stick and everything You touch with your bare hands will have that even if you do wash your hands five times after
Those look absolutely beautiful! So colorful! This video was fun to watch but since I don’t like any {zero, none, zip, nada} veggies, I’ll just watch and not try this one. Congrats on 213k!
You are not sir...I scrolled down just to find comments like this. Tilapia is a common fake for Mahi Mahi...so this guy got ripped off. Which is sad, seeing that he's a "chef"
My husband also claims cilantro tastes like soap. I did some research and learned it is actually genetic! It is due to olfactory-receptor genes. Those who taste soap will also hate black licorice! And for the cole slaw alternative recipe...I make a form of guacamole, what ever I have on hand (RIPE avocados though, ha ha!) thinned with or without mayo extra citrus and add shredded cabbage. And a question: Don't some Southern California Fish Tacos use mayonnaise as the white sauce? It always tasted like that to me. So I make home made mayo for ours. Should I try your crema instead? Is that more authentic? Dang Preppie dude, yours looks so fresh! Thanks! : )
@@daisymartinez9314 Yeah, but Azrely stated it was a Mexican dessert when it's like borrowed. She didn't say something like: "It would be fun to see you make a flan, it's really popular in Mexico". To give you an example, It's like as if Argentinians claimed Lasagna a la bolgnesa is a great Argentinian dish. Doesn't make sense.
Yesss!! An excuse to head to the store for a grilling basket! Going to try this out this week. I've been on a grilling kick! My mouth is watering just thinking about these 🤤
Nice to know about the lime and onion. I Love Cilantro! Soo good. Love how you use so many veggies ... healthy. And nice sound effects lol Tfs Subscribing!
Wow mega amounts of lime throughout the recipe! Love it along with cilantro. Yum-o! Too bad for cilantro haters. I feel sorry for them, I know they can’t help it. Thanks John.
My 4 year old just declared he likes fish better than chicken. Tilapia was a big hit! Will have to try your recipe. ¡Gracias!...for the grownups, add some serrano. Life changing.
@@PreppyKitchen my go to slaw is old school from my childhood...green cabbage, carrots, mayo to taste, I add black pepper and raisins (lots & lots...unless you're like my son & they gross you out). I gotta try w/ red cabbage! Also, try fish tacos topped w/ sweet baby peppers. My current obsession is corn salsa (corn (fire roasted frozen kind from Trader Joe's), cilantro, tomato of choice, red onion, lime, splash of Tabasco, pinch of sea salt and BOOM! you're welcome.
Okay, I had to do some substitutes (doterra Lime EO instead of lime juice and green cabbage, white onions, no cilantro BUT I did have avocado) but WOW! these were PERFECT! Very versatile
¡¡¡¡¡Me encantaron tus tacos!!!!! (Loved your tacos) My wife and I are from Toluca, Mexico, originally from Mexico City. Which part of Mexico is your Mom from? Ask her if she and you can make Mole de Olla (my favorite dish) on your channel, I would die to see you both cook that. Lots of love, Cristina
Being from Hawai’i i was SOOOO happy seeing you use Mahi-Mahi❤️❤️ I like to make my fish marinade with shoyu(soy sauce) brown sugar and a little bit of sesame oil. It’s really good on tacos it’s a really different flavor more, sweet/savory but AMAZING🙌🏽
milk yes, sour cream no because of it's high fat content and acidity. If you have a milk sauce that breaks cool it down because the heat will make it seperate and add sour cream or cream to help bring it back together. If you heat it back up do it slowly off of direct heat.
Is mayonnaise compulsory in coleslaw? I love to mix equal quantities of finely sliced red cabbage and grated carrot, then add diced red onion, raisins (I have probably lost you with that John!) - the raisins can be left out or even replaced with another dried fruit such as cranberry (if you like things a little tart) or chopped dried fig - a few toasted sesame seeds, and toss it in a simple olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing. It's best left to sit a while before serving - overnight in the fridge does not harm it, though do take it out in advance of eating and give it another good mix before putting it on the table. For something a bit different add a few thinly sliced whole blanched brussel sprouts - they are tiny cabbages after all! And here's something that might interest and amuse you ... Did you know that the Swedish word for cabbage is 'kål' (pronounced 'cole'), and that 'slå' (pronounced 'slaw') is the verb to cut/reap? I like to think that the dish has Swedish roots! Fish tacos look great for the summer ... still a while I away here in Scandinavia! Thanks for your inspiration!
very lovely taco's.....btw, whoever thinks cilantro tastes like soap; you might want to try it every few years. it used to taste that way to me, now it's a whole different flavor.
Faith Nelson trust me I have. I took a AncestryDNA test and it turns out that it’s because of my genes. but I i used to hate celery and now over the years I’ve started liking it.
@@whatsup8431 yes it is supposed to be for that reason. now cilantro does not taste like soap at all to me anymore. Interesting, it seems both belong to the Apiaceae family.
