I like my ka bar tdi tanto. Took it to Iraq and it's been on my belt for 9 years now. No idea if it's good in a fight but let me tell ya I've practiced on many a card board box and only one was able to fight back. I don't want to talk about it.....

Curious, what did you like about the tanto style blade over the 'normal' ka-bar tdi blade?
@lknanml
@lknanml 5 лет назад
@@chilecayenne I have both and used both for awhile. I found keeping the tanto blade sharp easier and faster to do as it had a straight blade and was smaller. The serrated section would cut ANYTHING and was very easy to keep sharp needing just a few passes with a pocket sharpener. I could make both sections razor sharp faster that the other blade. I worked on helicopters and had tons of tags to cut while replacing parts. A lot were metal wire and the serrated edge went through it faster than breaking out your Gebber and unfolding it. I also like the tanto look. Both are good choices and a good for some devious jokes. We started throwing knives on our deployment next to the hangar (can't get away with it at home base) Who could make the longest toss stick. I would say just be careful. If you miss with this one there is a chance it will come back as it's shaped like a boomerang. You could see the extra thought going into the throw while people around us tried to keep a straight face as you ran a ways back before they threw it. Good times.. Good times......

@@akbuilder7626 No I'm pointing out that purchasing anything at work is the same as purchasing anything else at work. It's just a purchase. I just mentioned coke because it's a generic item to purchase. Perhaps I should have said "potato crisps" instead of "coca cola". I don't know where you got narcotics from, that was never a part of this discussion. I get the feeling you don't know much about drugs. You come across as the "drugs are bad mkay" type in your comment. Perhaps that's just a miscommunication. I'm not sure how my own drug use is relevant to this discussion, though. It seems like you're using your flawed 'drugs are bad' logic and falsely attaching that 'badness' to me through assumption, to imply invalidity of my comment. That's three layers of being wrong. Perhaps I've misunderstood. Cool username though!

people say "why do you carrying a firearm? youre a boxer" well, i grew up ina tough neighborhood, and before i was licensed to conceal carry, the one moment i had a gun in my face my first thought was "hes close enough for me to swing on, but if i dont get the knock out hes gonna mag dump me in the face, and i dont wanna make that risk" it was that one moment that really humbled me as a fighter, because i knew i couldnt win that particular fight with a barrel in my face. the next day i spent money on a concealed course, got approved and have been carrying ever since. we're all human, we all bleed the same. even fighters, military, leo.

Craig Douglas and his principles of fighting in extreme close quarters concepts (ECQC) is a MUCH under appreciated innovator in this category. I'm glad to see that he is finally getting some more high level recognition for his teachings and principles. His concepts SHOULD be taught in every single police academy as they are all relevant when it comes to this worst case scenario. These also apply to concerned citizens who realize that THEY are their own first responder. If you have any chance at all to take Craig's class, make the investment of time and treasure in yourself to do so. NO ONE will take more interest in your ability to acquire these relevant skills to protect yourself than you will.

In many cities double-edge knives are illegal to carry. However, most double-edge knives are of the symmetrical dagger-type so unless a cop looked close at the Clinch Pick, he might miss that the back of this asymmetrical design is sharpened. Knives are devastating to flesh. I respect them, I carry them (along with a gun) but I still fear them. I've talked to a lot of trauma medics, doctors and nurses and most of them have said gunshots are easier to patch up than knife wounds. I've seen the end result of what a knife can do to a person firsthand (law enforcement) many times, and it isn't pretty. This knife looks like a little son of a bitch. That's because criminals(the ones doing most of the shooting) cheap out on their ammo and don't use rounds that leave big enough holes on the way out...or in the case of the R.I.P. rounds shoot 7 razor blades in all directions through the entire chest cavity...and I'm sure I'm gonna get some flack for using R.I.P. but they cycle great in my sig 1911 purposely tried to jam it up and couldn't...penetration is low but that's the point get it into the cavity and let the razor blades do work and have less danger to bystanders

@@rosicrucian8993 Knives are risky in untrained hands. In hands with experience and training they can be deadly. The key is in training and making your training sessions realistic as possible. Just got home to find my Clinch Pick waiting for me. It's actually a little smaller than I envisioned, which is a GOOD thing. It is very easy to carry and conceal in the intended position. The knife also feels surprisingly good in the hand as well. Especially for such a compact weapon. And while I have no experience with the much pricier custom versions of this design, I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed with the overall design as well as the fit and finish on this knife. I'm sort of picky on my edges and very commonly I'll do a full edge reprofile on my new knives. But, ya know... the edge on this knife is pretty damn good straight out of the box so I decided to leave well enough alone and not touch it. Good stuff! If you're considering picking one of these up, I'll say that you won't be disappointed. And @Warrior Poet Society, John, I just noticed the return address on the shipping label and included invoice is from my hometown. I knew we were from the same state, but not the same town... Small world! Do you have a venue where you give classes somewhere local to us? If so, that sure would help push me over the edge to taking one of your classes. Although, I see another business with the same address... So, perhaps you don't actually live here and maybe that's just the address from where some of your products ship...

The dagger stuff is ALL wrestling based. This is partly due to the weapons being used, partly the much heavier and inherently more cut resistant clothing, but it primarily relies on joint locks and targeting the weapon hand of your opponent. Interesting, it's also done almost exclusively with the ice pick grip
@Doppelreiter
@Doppelreiter 4 года назад
@@Ruizg559 That's right, the only defense against dagger/knife in the tretises, beside keeping distance, is grappling- hanging on to the dagger grasping arm. As for the grip type, both straight and reverse grip were used, but ice pick grip was predominant earlier, for penetration; straight grip became more popular later, when armor, including padded armor, was falling out of use. Scholagladiatoria has a great video about it.

Great knife. It takes a lot of training to not put your thumb out on the blade. It's unusual with a blade that small to not reinforce it with your thumb thinking the edge is on the outside. I've heard that's the number one issue. From experience you have to train with it first for sure.

Nice video, I carry something similar a Kbar TDI for that same reason and in the exact same place, I am a Truck driver, and I am not allowed to carry a firearm.. "Poets, Poetically, Poetizing" with your symbol in the middle, needs to be on a T-shirt.
@nomdemorte1302
@nomdemorte1302 5 лет назад
As an Aussie constantly searching for a better blade that I'm legally allowed to carry (not many options there) I searched for that TDI. The grip implies/enforces that the cutting edge be facing down. That's not the same as this. Blade up is a must for the kind of techniques suggested here (close quarters grappling)
