The Best Medieval Era Mod for Rome Total War - Let's Play Chivalry Total War (Bohemia - Part 1)

I haven't yet played a Medieval era campaign on the channel, so I thought I would change that! The Duchy of Bohemia is considered to be the toughest campaign in Chivalry Total War, so let's do this. Chivalry has many unique mechanics that make it stand out when compared to other Medieval era campaigns for both Medieval 2 and Rome Total War and it is really a very nice classic total conversion mod. Its economy and AOR are difficult to manage, and its battles play out very differently compared to other mods. It also has a nice mix of factions to choose from, including the Duchy of Bohemia!

I always liked the Byzantines in Sicilian Vespers 2. Early era. I also played a lot of Byzantine and Crusader states in Broken Crescent. Could never get into Stainless Steel but will give it another bash soon.

@@Heldermaior The early era Byzantine campaign in Sicilian Vespers is an excellent campaign indeed. I even did an AAR about it about a decade ago... perhaps I will use that campaign to showcase SV! Back in the day I couldn't get into Stainless Steel either - I don't know why! But I saw that the new version of the SSHIP submod for SS has been released so I'm looking to do some coverage of that soon. Broken Crescent is another mod I want to showcase more at some point, I've only mentioned it once on the channel...

@@GudeaTW Iv always liked playing England in Stainless Steel. Did a campaign a while back and took all the historic lands of the Plantagenet dynasty then conquered the rest of Britain. After that I started a heard fought war against France and their Allies from Genoa.

@@GudeaTW broken crescent has a garrison script that makes things quite interesting but the combat is kind of meh imho. And EB2 rebel factions have spoiled me... one of those things that when you know about you cannot unsee. I had a crazy idea today of doing a mod that uses the mission capabilitues of mtw2 to simulate court intrigue like ck2 and levying troops from vassals (or Kleurochoi population in helenistic factions in ancient times). SV 1 I never played too much. At the time I exclusively played EB pretty much and then MTW2 came out and so I played mods for that and I played a lot more of SV2. That submod for SS is why I might give it a bash soon. :)

In general, I prefer campaigns which have enemies with differning armies, factions at meeting points of cultures. Sicily, Turks (Ottomans) or Byzantines are a good examples. (they face feudal europeans, skirmishing muslims, militia italians and most likely Mongols) I really like the self-made men feel of the Sicily normans, also the start location is at the centre of the Medieval 2 map. (a norman conquest of Sicily mod would be awesome)

Hello. Just found your channel. It is now one of my favourite (if not my favourite) yt channel. Your love for TW is plain to see, and you're a truly discerning player; favouring the older TWs (the best imo). I also like your play style; specifically your focus on realism, characters and stories. You don't make the game feel too "gamey". For instance, you refer to your generals by their names, and look at their traits, retinue, personalities etc, making them feel like real people in an unfolding drama, unlike other players who just treat their generals like tokens in a board game. This, among other things, makes your channel a true gem to me. Much love from Nigeria! ❤🇳🇬

Not gonna lie, super impressed at your ability to plow through this difficult campaign. I started 2 different England campaigns side by side - one in Chivalry TW and another one in Chivalry Remastered and the AI in Chivalry TW is just ruthless and brutal. Kudos!

the early medieval theme of this mod combined with the fast paced combat of rome 1 and that gritty dark campaign map make for one the best mods in total war for me

Wow, this brings me back! I remember the challenges of the Bohemian campaign. You handle them well here. I always found the Chivalry ai to be super aggressive-maybe because of the increased campaign map movement. This is especially the case in mid/late game, when a player army can face off against multiple stacks in a single turn. Good times!

Yeah Chivalry campaign AI is pretty aggressive, probably due to the movement. It's definitely one of my favorite Total War mods of all time!

@@GudeaTW, sounds like a good idea. As I said, all the different mods has really peaked my interest in going to older TW once I have time so I appreciate getting to see a variety of them. Hopefully you'll get around to Chivalry 2 at some point as that looked quite interesting. The Late Antique ones are cool as well. One of my favorite periods.

I really like your narration style, and love the mod. It must be about fifteen years since I played it... One suggestion though: how about practising to pause as little as possible during battles? It might give you a bit more of a challenge than you'd like, but I personally find it enjoyable, and after a while it almost feels like pausing is cheating.

Your pronunciation is pretty much on point (even better than of some Germans fellows). The names do not include diacritics (Lužice, Břetislav) so there are slight differences but we would understand you for sure. The only little complaint is in the name Olomouc (the pronunciation, in capital letters: OH-LOck-M(include OH again in between the "moo")OO - seleuCid: C is little bit sharper, try to "spit" it).

Chivalry is much older than Rome Medieval. I like Rome Medieval, but I've actually had technical problems with it and haven't been able to get it to work the past few months.

Hi Enderknight, the Invasio Barbarorum series will definitely continue (perhaps I'll have a new episode up tomorrow or the next day). I'm having some technical problems with the Hayastan campaign (end turn CTD), but I might be able to fix it. If I can fix it I will finish the campaign.

Hi Bloop, pretty much all the mods I have covered on the channel are mod-foldered, so they can all be installed togther in the RTW folder without affecting each other. I will make a mod installation guide. I've been meaning to do it the past few weeks but haven't gotten around to it yet...

Hi Podcast, right now I'm running it with Steam + Windows 10, using the Alexander.exe patch (but I know it also works on BI without that patch as well). I will have a video up soon about installing RTW mods (I will make a point of showing a few different mods, some for BI, some for Alex, even though the concept is pretty much the same)!

The sieges are kind of meh to me in this mod since you dont really fight in cities but in the same looking castle, its nice looking but gets old pretty fast

The eastern settlements are mostly cities. I like the castles - they are reminiscent of the Medieval 1 castles to me.

Yes please, I'm doing a Danish playthrough on the highest difficulty, I consolidated all of Nordic countries, then Germania attacked and I started baiting them, dividing their forces and beating them separately until I took a city from them and enslaved the populace to peacify it and pay for the huge 6k gold debt I had, now Germania is sending me doomstacks and I have no idea how to deal with them, I can only field 600-700 troops against their 1.5k.

@@DaniboyBR2 haha ok :) I think your best option might be to get some knights together and maybe make some raids deeper into HRE territory in order to distract them and maybe sack some cities - that might turn the tides in your favor. Perhaps making some alliances might help too... I know Chivalry can be tough, sometimes you're at the mercy of your neighbors.

Hi Emma, knights in Chivalry Total War are extremely powerful - if you use them correctly they are devastating against levy forces (which is essentially what I was facing here). I don't like it when peasants can crush knights on VH. My Ruina Romae campaign is on Hard battle difficulty.
