You're probably not old enough to know this but back in the day Strasburg Railroad passenger cars were all green back in the 60's then were painted Caboose Red with 2 Yellow outside cars one being the Famous Hello Dolly end car in the 70's until late 90's before being painted a third time in Royal Red as they are today. The GG-1 Am-Trak you run on the layout is at Strasburg Pennsylvania Railroad Museum at the moment as Strasburg owns 4 GG-1 right now as well as a Am-Trak E60 No.603 she's been there for a few years. I'm really Not a passenger train kind of guy but I will say I love the Double Camelbacks 👍🏻👍🏻. Nice video, Hope to maybe catch you Live streaming sometime.
Back in the very early days of Amtrak it would have been a rare treat to see a rake of solid Amtrak livery cars. The black PC GG1s would have been pulling a whole misch-masch of different railroads' cars on the long Florida trains through Baltimore. As always, your videos are worth watching.
Yes I know but I have found a few pictures of black PC or Amtrak GG1s pulling an all Phase I Passenger train, which looks totally awesome. One day I will find some random UP and PC and other railroad cars to throw in to have a rainbow era consist.
Every time I see one of those all-black ex-Penn Central locomotives all I can think of is what a writer for "Trains" magazine said about the PC merger: "A marriage made in Hell and the bride wore black!"
@@eichfelder1951 🤣🤣🤣 Yeah, not exactly a distinguished logo, was it? But then it was the time, "Ultra Modern and Sleek" was the watchword. This was also the time when a lot of companies tried an update to their time-honored and recognizable logos which turned into a disaster for most.
Hi RJ! I really like the passenger trains, and how you've presented them. I especially like the "drama shots" from the platforms and looking up from the valley to the bridge. Inside the curve shot lessen the distance between the cars and so the trains tends to look more realistic.
@@rj.trains You know son, I'm 74 years old, and I got my first train set for the Christmas I was four. A Lionel Scout. Model railroaders, both scale and tinplate have been fretting over gaps between cars since the model train hobby began. To get prototype distances between cars, we'll need prototypical scaled curves. Since we don't live in 50,000 sq ft warehouses, we have to accept the compromises of small radii curves and wider-than-we-would-like gaps between cars. I think you do a marvelous job with the space you have, and switching the trains and consists gives you, and we viewers, variety and a sense of "new" all the time. Your videos are a treat. You have a wonderful personality, and your enthusiasm and sense of fun comes through in your presentations.
They are all fantastic, RJ. It's hard to pick one or two, but I do like the little British passenger train and the Acela is always a favourite. But in all it was too much wow to make choices. Thanks for taking the time for this run!
I really do love the EMD F40PH's. They have such a charming look to them. The worst passenger train I have been on has to be the Class 142 Railbus that I rode from Liverpool to St Helen's in 2010. Bounce and screech those things used to make when going over crossovers lol. Love the video buddy.
Love it! I prefer the Amtrak Acela as well. RJ, one of the things I like about your channel is that you showcase your layout but also share your rail riding adventures too. There's something about riding a train as a passenger that's intriguing and special. Looking forward to more layout updates. Thanks.
Totally enjoyed the video. I too am a passenger train aficionado. I love the illusion of people going places. I have Reading, Santa Fe, Lehigh Valley, Amtrak PRR, NYC, Pullman coaches, Reading and Northern. Need to get those Strasburg coaches for the same reason you mentioned. Many sets in those road names too.
Loved the Phase 1 train and the GGD Superliners. That phase 1 set could pass for an early Inter-American if you had a UP unit. The Strpney is cool too. My favorite passenger trains are my GGD MoPac Texas Eagle, My Sunset SP Argonaut, My Legacy Texas Special, My K-Line Daylight, and my late Inter-American with an F40ph. -Ricky
I’m so jealous of that Long Island camelback (and LI woodside passenger cars)! I can’t believe I missed out on that one. I’m also obsessed with passenger cars and have the Strasburg, NYC&HR and PRR wood side passenger cars.
Very nice! You just can't beat passenger trains. I liked your Southern Crescent set, as I'm a big fan of streamlined passenger trains, although Stepney was really cool. It's hard to pick my favorite set at my place. I'm an East Coast guy, so I really like my NYC and Pennsy AMT cars. When it comes down to brass tacks, though, it's close between my AMT Santa Fe sets and my AMT Southern Crescent set. To me, it's the paint scheme on the locomotives that make them so cool. I have quite a few videos of my passenger trains on my channel, Chooch's Trains. Either way, as excellent video, as always.
@@rj.trains Thanks. The channel is still a bit ‘raw’, so to speak. I’m getting ready for foam and scenery. I talked with Don Keiser about editing and I’ll start playing around with it, after Halloween. Enjoy the videos.
In my N scale collection, it's the Southern Pacific daylight! ❤ kato In my 0 gauge collection, it's the Chessie System! mpc Honorable mention, my N scale two-tone gray union pacific!
Ooh... with your collection... decisions decisions... But definitely one of the Amtraks I know would be my favorite of your collection. In my fleet, my favorite passenger train definitely is my Metra consist consisting of a standardly painted MP36 and the up to date Nippon Sharyo Gallery Cars. Next is probably my Amtrak California Zephyr consist. All my other Metra consists are pretty much the same minus the locomotive and maybe the builder of the other Gallery cars... So next is a tie between my Amtrak Hiawatha and Lincoln Service consists. Both use an SC-44 Charger, one uses Horizons, an Amfleet, and a Cabbage, the other uses Siemems Venture Cars and an Amfleet Cafe. I've also got a Rock Island/Metra transition era commuter train. Some other passenger consists I would love to have that may or may not be coming at some point... a couple of Chicago South Shore & South Bend modern EMU consists (both single levels and Gallery cars), a Caltrain Baby Bullet consist, a New Mexico Rail Runner consist, a Ferromex Chepe Express consist, a Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México passenger consist, the Illinois Central City of New Orleans, an appropriate Illinois Railway Museum coach train, and a bunch more Metra stuff. Yes, I have a problem, I LOVE my passenger trains!
You have a great collection of passenger trains, I find it to pick a favorite for they are all awesome sets. Do you think your layout may be done before Christmas? Lord willing . 😇
By Christmas, I don't know by then but I hope to have it more put together for sure. A lot of preorders coming in soon, depleating on the layout funds haha.
A fine collection of passenger trains, no doubt! My favorite (s) of the ones shown? Those classic Long Island Camelbacks with the woodside coaches! I'm a steam freak from WAY back and the more classic the steamers the better! The Acela? Just a little too "avant garde" for my tastes. At any rate in my opinion a modern passenger train is transportation but a steam train is a RIDE! 😃 My favorite of the ones I own? Wellllll, if I HAD to make a choice if my Chugger Barn was on fire and I could only grab ONE it would have to be my MTH "Blue Comet" set. I waited years to get one. When there were some around I didn't have the money and when I HAD the money there were none around! It FINALLY came together at Tiny Tim's four years ago! Hey, it was great sseeing and talking with you at York RJ! I didn't come away with a lot of stuff but what I got was choice! A fun weekend all 'round!
Stepney is also featured in the Railway Series and in Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends Seasons 4, 5, 6 and 12. His catchphrase is "Bluebells Forever!" His full name is Stepney the Bluebell Engine.
I really hope Lionel or MTH can come out with some O gauge Japanese trains or British engines(Hogwarts Express only isn't cutting it).😆 Also more steam from the 1800's too.
My pick is the Southern because I live in East Tennessee and Stephanie very sweet and the Acela of course I’m a passenger train guy also so I like them alll
East Tennessee! In college I dated a girl from East Tennessee and love it down there. That is also how I ended up with a Southern Steamer called the Tennessean.
A good suggestion but those cars are a pure fantasy design, the real Tennessean used regular plain silver stainless steel cars. So I like the set I have now :)
In an ELECTION year surely you need a piece of private varnish to run that a candidate could address the crowds from the rear platform...Harry Truman may be long gone but his common touch still lingers as a last honest man who spoke plainly and humbly.
@@rj.trains Our last Prime Minister to campaign from a train was John Diefenbaker. When he died he had a State Funeral and his casket was conveyed by a slow train from Ottawa (capital) to his burial out west. People lined the platforms in many cities to see the train. I believe Robert Kennedy had a similar journey....I think there was a GG1 involved?
