The b550 taichi has 2*m.2 slot
@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking
@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking 3 года назад
Apparently it does. Oh well the board it's replacing is the B550 vision-D which is getting really expensive and hard to find. I wouldn't recommend a B550 Master to anyone who wants to OC. The B550-E is similar in features to the Taichi but the Taichi is better equipped for RAM OC.

@@mainly_dyutish9 yeah I'm agreeing with you. I made a mistake about how many M.2s it has. I'm just also explaining why I wouldn't remove the board from the list anyway since there aren't really any better alternatives to the B550 Taichi.

@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking Taichi has consistent issues with mem even on the new topology. I’ve worked with about a half dozen people on OC discord who’ve had extreme difficulty with the board. The only thing I didn’t extensively test regarding the issues was termination, namely the ODT impedance. Assuming that wasn’t the cause of the issues, I’m personally hesitant to recommend the board for memory OC.

Thank you very much for this. I am an enthusiast who likes to tinker with their daily setups and learn hardcore overclocking because it fascinates me and indirectly teaches me about the hardware and the physics/engineering behind high-performing hardware. But having high-end dailyable set-ups is perfect content for me, and I think a lot of people. Also, using your power-plane cooling idea (not fool cooling, but basic heatsink and fan) did increase performance by a measurable amount on a 5900x.

10:01 On the ASRock X570 Taichi board, I believe the 3rd m.2 only shares PCIe lanes with the bottom PCIe x4 slot, so you should be able to run 8 SATA drives and 3 m.2s if you wanted, and give up the bottom PCIe slot (if I'm reading the manual correctly. ASRock doesn't have a nice storage compatibility chart like gigabyte or ASUS). Thanks for the great video as always Buildzoid. Nice to have a great summary video like this. I have the "avoid" B450 Gaming F from Asus and it's running 2000 FCLK on the 5600X quite ok, I just had to bump the four voltages that dram calculator recommends you use, and just a tad over that recommended value for three of them. I did experience some USB reconnecting issues like Ryzen does, like you said that is unstable infinity fabric, so I bumped up those four voltages and now it's running ok. No memory errors on 4000 CL 16, overclocked 3200 CL14 Flare X. I could not get CL 14 to work on 4000 yet. Thanks for creating this channel, I have learned a lot from it. Good luck with your XOC endeavors! I am currently building a custom water loop for the 5600X. Why? Because I want to overclock the snot out of it, and maybe get a 5800X in the future.

On the ASRock X570 Taichi (Razer Edition) the only compromise is that you have to choose if you want to use the third M.2 slot, coming from the chipset or the regular chipset PCIe slot. The 8 x SATA always works. (Source: Me and a personal system 🙃)

I chose that Crucial Ballistix kit for my Ryzen 5600X build despite my MSI MAG B550M Mortar having four DIMM slots as I learned my lesson with my 2600 build that had 32GB in a four DIMM config. I tried the G.Skill RpiJaws V kit first but it ran a bit warm and didn't really clock all that well on top of being pricier than the Crucial kit (at the time).

Very helpful solid advice for new builders. I was looking at the MSI X570 Unify and the ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming when I was configuring my build. I finally decided to pair my 5950X with the Unify and have been happy with it ever since MSI released a bios with AGESA 1.2.0.0 and up solving a lot of nagging issues. I never really liked ASROCK boards and that's totally subjective and not based on any of my own experience. 4 sata ports is more than I need let alone the 8 of the Taichi.

I find the x570 dark hero to be a good step up from the x570 master I get a bit better memory O/C as well as far less annoying quirks (ie my board not turning on every week or two unless I pull the battery for 5min). Also I really think for a high end gaming setup the b550 master is a fantastic board. Really good vrm and great feature set, yes the dual bios is kind of odd but that really does not come up unless you are really giving it.

I'm currently running 32GB (2x16GB) of Crucial 3600 CL16 at XMP on a 3400g / MSI x570 Gaming Plus (yeah yeah I know the VRM is crap on this board, but I don't overclock these days). I've also got a 16GB (2x8GB) kit of the same stuff, identical XMP timings just single rank Rev-E instead of dual. I was thinking of running all 4 sticks as 48GBs in a triple-rank configuration after I eventually swap out this 3400g for something with Zen3 when prices hopefully come down a bit later in the year. Any oddities you can think of that I might run into when running such a configuration?

Also as a side-note. I have an x570 Aorus Master because of the PCI-e config and the feature-set. My brother has a B-550 Aorus Master because it was on clearance at Microcenter. I was and to get the x570 master very close to the b550 in stable dailyable settings, but I had to do A LOT of tinkering. There’s also a weird thing where the performance of the x570 w/ a CPU and 3 m.2 seems to be affected by where you put the USBs at. I wonder if it has anything to do with that USB dropout people talk about. I know with the x570 board, each new BIOS released seems to either keep things the same or make them better. Which is counter to what you’ve said in the past, but I’m assuming it’s just an exception. M.2s are really popular for people like me because they’re low-hassle, and you stick it on the board, and it just works kind of deal. No awkward cable management (which gets dicey when you want to populate a fuckton of fanslots). You want a new case, or to run your PC open-air for a bit because you’re busy modding something you’re going to swap out? your drives stay on there. It’s weird being on the most enthusiast end of the normie spectrum. On one hand you want performance, but on the other you have to consider other normie stuff x570 AoMa has been pretty fucking great.

hi Buildzoid, I have two sets of Patriot 4400 CL19 kits (cause they're so cheap!) to run with a 5950x. I understand running xmp is a no-go, but what frequency and timings should I be aiming for? Edit question: How badly does my Asus x570-F (yea I know it's a dumb board but it came through a bundle deal) hinder me tightening the timings?
@parawm4585

Also have 2 of these kits. I have them running 3800 CL14 at 1.49v on a Tomahawk X570. Any higher gives WHEA errors. If you can boot 3800 and are WHEA free (try it at CL18 first to check if it boots and if you're WHEA free) that will likely be the max. I had to buy another set and bin the sticks to do CL14 though, initially one stick was holding me back at 3800 CL16 for the set of 4. Sold the two worst sticks. Individually all the sticks I kept do 4400 CL16 at 1.5v, but as a set its max 4200. But thats with FCLK/BLCK not 1:1 (just wanted to check). Shame we cant do FCLK 2000 1:1 on Zen3 right :(((. Thats why I bought these sticks initially last november when Zen3 came out. I even had 3 different 5900X CPU's and one 5800X in my board to check if I could run higher FCLK. All failed at exactly the same point of 1900 FCLK. Starting to think its the board (bios/agesa/X570) and not the CPU's Infinity fabric......

For 128GB 4x32GB Ryzen systems, it is ever worth doing more than XMP? Also it looks like the Crucial kit you recommended only comes in 2x32 configs. It's difficult to find any information on working 128GB Ryzen configs. I know quad rank is terrible on Ryzen but some projects actually need the ram! Threadrippers are so expensive...

For the B550 Pro v.2, they at least list that exact kit as supported in a 4 dimm configuration. I guess there's no guarantees about what performance you get, but it's better than nothing.

the recommendation to have 2 ram sticks instead of 4 was good for the ryzen 3000 like the 3950x, while for the ryzen 5000 series such as the 5950x, 4 ram sticks instead of 2 increase performance apparently. i moved from the 3950x to the 5950x and it seems more stable with 4 ram sticks of Corsair Vengeance Pro 3600mhz, cl 18, 128gb (4x32). So even if I use 2 dimms and reasonably oc them I can still use them with the Master x570 and just leave those 2 slots empty. My goal is max exploit of IF... which is 3866ish? Question is I'd like to have 64gb in my system for longevity (on a 5950x). but rumours here and there are 32gb sticks are more difficult to oc. Could I ever reach 3866ish ( if cpu permits) with a 2x32gb?

I've got some experience with two separate MSI B550 Unify (not the Unify-X), and both of them have suffered from very loud VRM coil whine, a quick search shows several forum threads with people complaining about similar issues too, so if you're planning on getting Unify or Unify-X it's probably worth keeping this in mind. On the other hand, both Unify and -X versions are deeply discounted right now in the UK (they're about 50 quid cheaper than the B550 Aorus Master as of June 10th) so if you're after a decent deal and are not too bothered by VRM noise, it might be worth picking it up.

@Captain Price When did I ever say the Unify was bad? The Unify/Unify-X has the most overbuilt VRM of ANY B550 boards from any of the major OEMs. There's no objective 'best' board, do your research regarding price points/features/VRM specs and choose one that best fit your needs. MSI and Asus both makes amazing boards and garbage boards. So does Gigabyte and ASRock. TLDR: No such thing as 'best board', go do your own reading, watch some reviews and determine what's best for your own usage, nobody can make that decision for you.

@Captain Price If you REALLY want to see a well-rounded cross-section of recommendation, watch the summary section of this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VUwjxNEe26I.html (from 2:05:00 onwards), where he makes multiple recommendations from a range of OEMs, highlighting the feature set/pricing pros/cons of each of his choice. I am not really seeing this 'mostly you saw buildzoid recommending Gigabyte motherboard in the B550 series' that you're talking about. He's stated multiple times that the MSI Unify-X is great for VRM/MemOC, Asus TUF for generally well-rounded featureset and price, GB Aorus Master/Asus Crosshair if you have plenty of cash to splash about and don't care about value for price... I don't see any overall propensity on him to universally recommend Gigabyte boards over others. He's almost always very clear about the reason he likes a particular board. Actually watch the videos and pick out the factors that is specifically important to you (is it VRM? Memory layout? Rear panel I/O? 5/10GBit ports? M.2 slots?) Pick your poison.

Have the board with a 5900x - PBO on with a 4.55 all core OC that kicks in roughly when more the 6 to 7 cores are maxed (took a few weeks to figure it out and fine tune). Over all, I love it - RAM is stable at 3800 CL14 1.5v and I can actually get my CPU to 4.7 but it burns up at 85°+ and I like to stay around 75° or lower. I will say this, my buddy has the 5950x and the Dark Hero and it seems to have more headroom then my 5900x on the same board.

@@phillipschulte-hordelhoff4261 I switched from x570 Aorus Master to Dark Hero two months ago (using 5950x). Had some issues with stability on master but after updating to new AGESA Bioses that should fix USB issues and Zen 3 cache latencies, it went from bad to ugly. With Aorus RTX 3080 Eagle in 1st slot I was getting often either black screen or nvidia driver crashing and time from time it refused boot from SSD. After switching to Dark Hero I had black screen once and driver crash two times in two months period and I know driver crash was related to specific app running as it didn't crash with application stopped. (tried two different Master boards, same behavior) Now Master is in my wife build, with 5800x and non gigabyte RTX 2060, so far running fine. Unlike most other x570 motherboards Dark Hero have passive chipset cooling, improved VRM and memory frequencies. Its also only motherboard that support something called Dynamic OC which improves multicore boost without sacrificing single core boost and as per info, it suppose to stay limited to Dark Hero motherboards.
