I think believing Aqualad was a bad guy was the most upsetting thing this season. It was even worse when I thought for a short time that he had killed Artemis. The writers really knew how to use their characters.
How did we beileve he was the bad guy when it was told repeatedly by tigress or Nightwing in there heads or to each other that it was a deep cover mission
Man I forgot the balls on aqualad to not make a single move to dodge that dagger from cheshire just to maintain his cover, you gotta love the dedication man...
He has atlantean skin though. I think in season 1 Cheshire threw something else at him whilst he was protecting some scientist and it didn't penetrate him.
Well he was an absentee dad in Aqualad's youth and despite knowing he was his son attacked him back in season 1. He was a good father in season 2 when his son was living the life he wanted him too but outside of it he was a bad father.
If you attack your kid for choosing a path you don’t personally support, you’re probably a bad parent underneath it all. Abusers all too often pretend the times they aren’t acting abusive are an excuse to abuse. That’s what you’re seeing in this clip.
He didn't seem like a bad dad...that is until he tried to teach Kaldur ruthlessness by threatening to "beat that lesson into his skull"...I think he only treated Kaldur well because their motives were aligned and he believed Aqualad was evil, once the deception was revealed his true colours showed
Hero costumes usually have to look friendly for the public eye as I understand it. (Batman being an exception since his is designed to inspire fear in his enemies and those who would commit crimes prior to ever being part of the league.) I'll gladly take some biker leathers and jeans with a helmet over colorful spandex any day myself.
Anything other than going back to his S1 suit. When he did I was like, "oh, right. He looks 16 again". I really appreciate it when heroes evolve their costumes.
@@anthonyvillanueva5226 My favorite aqua man was the one from justice league unlimited, something about having a hook/blade hand just makes being a shirtless Hulk Hogan looking guy wearing green tights seem like a bad ass.
I mean. Kaldur is probably one of if not THE most hero out of all these heroes on the team. Sacrificed so much and lost all he had and could have turned traitor any time. They said it himself. The love of his life died and then weeks later he finds out his dad is his kings mortal enemy and criminal. Yet all he did was to save the world.
Well Kauldarahm was actually the unfortunate one amongst all the heroes but I honestly feel that mount justice blast was unnecessary bloody I really wanna see some episodes where there will be proper reunion of each and every superheroes & their sidekicks in a very good homely atmosphere like the watchtower.
@@paulamrana8981 The point was that Mount Justice was just a place, what matters are the people. The stakes of the story had risen and it needed to be sacrificed to achieve a greater goal, which it did.
come to order! the cartoon judge! Black Manta Isn’t Atlantean, But his partner is. Aqualads mother is a woman from Xebel, one of the 7 Kingdoms Of Atlantis...
He actually was the best amongst all the heroes and the next guy who was impressive along with Kauldarahm was speedy/arsenal - Roy Harper & amongst the villains I find sportsmaster the coolest.
@come to order! C.G.:the Cartoon Judge! DC seems to be focused on making entertaining films and has dropped the idea of having a heavy continuity based universe that has a darker tone to compete with the MCU. I think DC can't compete with the MCU they're better making movies about less popular characters like Shazaam.
@@ampocalypsew3883 yeah mabe cause they will he thier air to the thier villan super name after they die and they want 1 truly loyal "minion" and what better than one that share your gens?
@@ampocalypsew3883 Think like this, most villains betray thier fellow villains. Exemple Owlman betryas Crime Syndicate, The Light betryas the Reach and so on. Therefore if a villain wants a truly loyal companion in crime she, he, it should parthner up with their decendats usally thier kids. Since they have the same gens and propably can feel empathy or understand thier father or mothers motivations to be a villain. While superheroes just thinks look my child im a superhero the news and public sees it in that way, therefore you propably will take my seat when i die. It can go the otherway around to example Sportsmaster and Artemis
Black Manta: "I will teach you to be ruthless, Kaldur'ahm. Even if I must beat that lesson into your skull!" *Kaldur beats his dad's skull* Kaldur: "I believe that was fairly ruthless, father. I hope it made you proud." lmao the irony
*"Ignorant boy! This is not a world, a universe, in which a free man can afford to be soft. I will teach you to be ruthless, Kaldur'ahm, even if I must beat that lesson into your skull!"*
that moment when he's in the cave and looks at Tula's memorial really had me questioning if he'd actually gone over to the dark side, it's so heartbreaking
I love how even until the last moment Kaldur's deep cover was so good that it made the audience question his true loyalty many times. This is a good guy playing the bad guy clishe done right.
i’ll never forget the feeling of thinking my comfort character had actually turned evil… it was bone-chilling. but as badass as it was seeing Kaldur portray the villain, nothing was more badass than this twist
Alexandre de Souza which makes sense since him and Artemis were sorta the best characters. Robin shines but he’s in everything, and Wally..well..we know what happened to him.
We have to learn to harden ourselves somewhat, yes, but the trick to this conumdrum is not becoming a fully hardened person like Manta, but to work to create a world in which we can be "softer"with those we love and broader mankind in general, like Kaldur.
Kaldur'ahm is definately up there with Harley Quinn for one of the best characters created for a TV show and then adopted into full-fledged comic book lore.
The best part about this is that when you first see it your heart broken for Aqualad turning on his friends on reviewing it's heartbreaking knowing that he's playing a part and playing his father making his own friends hate him to continue with his part. Though part of me wished that he kept the black manta armor as a last resort kind of thing.
I liked how the question of whether it was actually a triple cross was proposed and plausable (that aqualad indeed has actually betrayed the justice league, but is pretending to betray Black Manta). Like for a moment I was sorta unsure where it would go.
@@slothful2039 it's not pre established in this universe and comes of as a supprise well don't care anyway He is still good I think it's just a bit forced
We all have to remember Kaldur can knock Super Boy flat on his ass with only a good bit of effort. Like that had to hurt. Especially with no telegraph.
@@afarensis9720 If you heard the blow, you know it was just about enough force to make him really hold his gut in pain, but not enough to make him crumble on the floor.
I remember how hurt I was when Megan destroyed his mind. She didn't think using her power like that was wrong until she found out that he was innocent.
And she didnt get any shit for it either. Meanwhile, the whole team bullied Kaldur in s1 for him revealing that he was searching for a mole on the team and not sharing it with the rest. Ms Martian is a smug bitch who only became more smug in s2-s3 and getting away with it too.
Black Manta's motives are so well conveyed here. In all of my life, I hardly knew about his character, and YJ comes in and makes him one of my favorite villains. I wish they had gone with his sleek and menacing suit design for the Aquaman movie. His classic Bubbly look is so lame.
Kind of, from what I understand originally he was just the Ocean Kilmonger. Now it’s more “I want to kill Aquaman because he or his dad killed my father”. Young Justice changed a lot. The Beetles are completely different in the comics.
Kyle Gmerek he has 3 origins one where he hates aquaman for not saving him The second he is raised in Arkham and becomes violent af as a result And the third he is a treasure hunter with his dad and he kills aquaman's dad then in turn aquaman accidentally kills black manta's dad thinking it was him and the fued goes on from the as a cycle of revenge
I don't know about others but I actually really like black manta in the show due to his relationship with aqualad and I feel like it could be the basis for him possibly working with the team in season 3
In season one, he launched a massive terrorist attack on Atlantis. Killed shitloads of Atlanteans, and that wasn't even his real plan, just a distraction. He's a villain through and through.
Manta is a villain that at least cares for his son. Evil villains can be good to or at least care for their children. Deathstroke in the comics is another example of this
@@hellstrom4209 I know, but I take issue with the suggestion in the original comment that Black Manta might work with the team. Just because he cares about Aqualad doesn't mean he's a good person.
Kyle Gmerek doesn’t matter if he’s not as strong as Superman. One hit from superboy could kill a normal person if they didn’t have any type of superhuman invulnerability. This is even implied in the show, that’s why everyone constantly urges superboy to control his anger. Kaldur is better trained, if he ate a full punch from superboy who wasn’t holding back,he would prob be in the hospital if not dead
SoulReaperSlayer19 he’s taken full force hits from superboy before, episode 1 remember? But I guess he was supposed to capture them and not kill so ig that might not count
bruh young justice knows how to write characters im telling you i didnt really like kryptonians all that much then came our boy Connor and i fell in love with him fucking godly writing
I feel kind of bad for Black Manta and Kaldur. I'm sure Kaldur really did love his father, and was pained for the position he was placed in to have to defeat him, because his father was a bad person.
You should’ve included the scene between Nightwing and Wally questioning Kalduron’s motive. It adds a lot more depth to Kaldur’s final fight with his father.
Vaughn McKinley After that fight scene, you could see Kaldur repeatedly looking at his father’s unconious body, showing how he truly wished Black Mata wasn’t the villain he had to fight
Watching this Just reminds me how bad I really wanted him to be a traitor. With how well he knows the League and the Team, on top of his wise calm demeanour and discipline, he would have been potentially more dangerous than the Joker and The Light put together....
Stuff like this reminds me how lucky the heroes are that someone of the sidekicks are heroes. Miss Martian, Nightwing and Aqualad would make such formidable foes.
Love how suddenly OP Aqualad got once he became a villain, he was never as powerful as a hero. Yes I know he was a double agent but almost no one knew that so most people were not throwing their punches when fighting him. Also have to say how lame it is how Superboy has basically become Superjobber, want to make someone look tough, have them slap Superboy around.
I don't think that's completely true. I wouldn't say it was sudden but there was several years for everyone to get to know each other and such. I mean Robin in Teen Titans took down all of his team as Red X so it isn't unreasonable that someone as cool as Aqualad was able to study his team and know their weaknesses.
Everyone's missing the fact that Aqualad actually has super strength amongst other things, he's not 100% human, and he also has tatical smarts, so a "super" emotional idiot really isn't enough to defeat him, so a half Atlantian vs. a half Kryptonian is a fair fight...
There has never been as good storyline as young justice in both marvel and dc animated series.. i believe if dc keeps working on this series, it can take dc to a different level.
It was like I knew Kaldur didn’t actually become evil but also didn’t know how good the ruse was, i was relieved when it was revealed he was just a spy.
It must be seriously annoying to be Superman. He can literally move faster than sight and may only leave a blur and can probably punch a planet into bits yet a insignificant little minions think they stand a damn chance against him.
Man, I did not like La’gaan. He was basically just the replacement boyfriend character until M’gann got Conner back on her radar. He got absolutely no screen time in season three because of this. Even while watching season two, I was like “oh, he’s a goner.” Edit: Here from early 2023. La’gaan was in Phantoms last year, and he actually got a shit ton of development from how he was here. Actually, he was one of the most satisfying things about the season, especially considering how it ended.
I just want to appreciate, clucky exposition aside, how capable Kaldur is. Like he said, Dick is a born leader meant to lead, but that in no way downplays how capable Kaldur is as well. Despite it being a ploy, this man was capable enough to become a member of the light. Not just someone who works under the light as an enforcer or typical grunt, a MEMBER alongside Manta. Then he goes on to lead the Justice League (alongside Wonder Woman, sure, but hey). If he was to actually go rogue, he would’ve been a major threat.
I love it when there's secret "betrayal" character arcs and i loved this but my only complaint was about the plot putting Artemis and her magic charm disguise RIGHT NEXT TO THE WIZARD WHO CAN SEE THROUGH THE WHOLE TRICK
Even though he became the new Aquaman in season 3, I'll bet he's still thinking about his undercover mission and if he and Black Manta will clash again over it.
When I saw this video I looked back at the episode where she did “die”. You can actually see Nightwing slip his hand over the blood pack in her costume
Black Manta: IGNORANT BOY! This is not a world, a UNIVERSE in which a free man can afford to be soft! I will teach you to be ruthless, Kaldur'ahm. Even if I must beat that lesson into your SKULL!
I've been pretty torn on that. True, the first season had more of a sense of simplicity that I liked, where s2 was convoluted. And of course there's the time skip. But the character development that s2 brought was great and , though it was convoluted, the story was still really, really good and literally have me a lot of edge-of-my seat moments and great twists.
Also, even if it sometimes felt pretty crowded, the roster expansion made a lot of sense, considering there are plenty of teenage heroes coming out in their world especially with there being plenty in the DC universe that so many people wanna see. And let's be real, if we wanna see em, this is the show for them to go.
It made a lot of sense for him to be evil, so honestly, it’s amazing that he didn’t turn bad, his best friend gained the love of the girl of his dreams, Aquaman lied to him about the fact his father was Black Manta, and during one of their missions Tula died(the events of which are shown during a tie-in video game)
That was brilliantly executed trickery on Aqualad's part. Nightwing Artemis and Kid Flash planned their ruse perfectly. None of the heroes knew. That's how perfect the plan was.
