He was advanced because he was the 1 who changed the game for small guards he is the maker of what players develop like the warm up dribbles before game that steph curry does he started that the single finger dribbling that kyrie does he is the maker of that. He don’t get his credibility enough to what he evolve these small guards into.
He would fit right in NBA today, imagine if he had the training, health, gear and others to excell with, and to be the ONLY guy having those skills in the 70s in beyond phenomoal and superior
The most talented human being to ever play the game. He was a savant. His mind was so creative and imaginative while being neurologically connected to his physiology along with a so called 6th sense that allowed him to be able to view the court in a 360degree manner and interact with it with inhuman eye hand coordination are unparalleled.
There are very few people in the history of basketball with Pete's level of handles. He was amazing at many skills, one of the best of all time. That off-the-cuff pass in black and white that you see in some of his highlights was breathtaking. This guy played basketball like breathing air. He influenced many generations, including Bird and Magic. A beautiful player who loved the game.
back then jersey names were less regulated. Fun fact though, When Lew Alcindor change his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar initially they just put Jabbar on the back. Also Nene Hilario legally changed his name to just Nene so it would be on his jersey
@@night6724 I vividly remember like... NBA Live 05 when this happened... the announcer would just like elongate it out to make it sound like two names. "Naaaaay Nayyyyyy" lmao
He would have been average. Take a look at his college competition. When he did play top schools like Tennessee he got trounced. He was never on winning teams for a reason - he was groomed to be a one man team.
Koda If you want to see real Maravich highlights and learn why Kobe Kyrie Step all idolized him.. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9qv0YS1wHoQ.html
He scored 44 points without 3s and people said with threes looking at his old games and showing the distance of NBA 3s said he would've averaged 59 points per game that is unheard of this is a Kobe Lebron and Jordan's best scoring game of almost the whole season this is insane... He used to throw the ball between his legs whenever he wanted people said when he was a kid and easily made it every time their will never be another like him it would've been crazy for him to still be alive...RIP pistol Pete... It would've been more insane too see him when Jordan and Allen overs on and all of them were playing he would've beat Jordan no doubt in my mind... He has the NCAA scoring record and he still didn't play all 4 seasons he only played 3 in college think of how much he would've scored when their are 30 games almost in a season and averages 44 points a game...
Jackson Mainard There's this idiot on RU-vid saying LeBron would dominate Pistol in a 1v1 match. Only idiots think size and strength are the only things you need to win in 1 on 1 basketball. Your thoughts?
@@iess2006 pistol knew wilt's body better than wilt did. Pistol knew that wilt could touch the left side of the backboard from where he was standing because he was that athletic, but pistol just finger rolled the ball 1 inch outside of that range. No top 20 is complete without pistol
This guy is awesome there are seasons when he averaged 26-27 points per game, and that is even before the three point line was introduced in the nba. Thing is, this guy was well known for his long range shots.
One thing I noticed tonight even though I watched him play: he was really good at spinning the ball off the backboard. It gave him a big advantage because, even if he had a bad angle, he could manufacture a shot off the backboard.
PISTOL PETE WAS AN EXCELLENT GREAT BALL PLAYER HE WAS A GREAT PASSER AN EXCELLENT REBOUNDER AND JUST A GREAT PURE SHOOTER HE PLAYED MOST OF HIS CAREER WITH THE ATLANTA HAWKS. HALL OF FAME BABY.
do you know how many times his teammates took a ball to the face because "they didnt know you could pass like that" theres actually a highlight of players just not being ready.
I love seeing some of these old school players who had really smooth jumpers like him. So many guys shot really weird back then, so players like Pistol really stand out as looking like modern players sent back in time.
@doctender77 wut u have to understand is, these guys are pioneers. thats like watching a video of the model t and saying, oh my dads mustang is better. NO ONE had seen moves like this before, and guys that play in the league now, owe their lives to these players. One thing i like about Pistol is that he was an all-around player. he could D u, cross u, shoot over u, and still make highlight reel passes at full speed. ppl on ur neighborhood court shoot for flash. these guys shoot to win.
We had tests in PE in jr. high by that one PE teacher who is the varsity basketball coach and assists in coaching varsity football and track. I don't remember the test answers behind some of the names, but I do remember some of the answers being Pistol Pete, Wilt Chamberlin, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, and James Naismith.
In an incredible piece of trivia, Maravich’s running mate at guard was Rick Mount’s running mate at guard in HS. Imagine playing next to those guys for 6-7 years. Jeff Tribbett.
When PM went into the NBA it was a different time and place then today. He had received a million dollar contract but did not start the first game of his first season. Unheard of in today's game.
Pete's old coach took footage from every game and shot he ever made. When taking into consideration the shots that would have counted as 3's today, PISTOL would have averaged 59 points per game. He still ave 44.2 which will never be touched. Chris Paul is great, but only 5'11, Pete was 6'5 and a much better ball handler and passer
Pauls 6'1, right under magic johnson on all time assists. And he played against 30 teams of athletes, not 12 teams of slightly coordinated white dudes. Hold your 44 points per game in COLLEGE
