Bought mine 19 years ago as a 40th present to myself. A perfect balance of tool watch with good looks. It will always be my favourite watch, with perfect legibility for my older eyesight 😂, and never to be sold. One day I'll gift it to my son. Pure class.
LOL! You knooow! I think you’re right! 🤣 I just hate saying anything that might hurt someone’s feelings! Or if someone thinks “oh. I love wearing my watch over my sleeve….” You know!
Ryan Gosling where his TAG Heuer over his sleeve during his Oscars performance of “I’m Just Ken” and over tons of snow gear or a wet suit are fine, but generally I don’t know like it.
I bought one of these 24 years ago specifically for scuba diving. It's been all over the world with me and has never let me down. I can wear it on a dive and then to dinner with a tux and it still works. I get it pressure tested once a year and it's good to go. It's going to my son in a few years when he graduates college.
@@thisiskian5904 I dont find it too blingy at all. It obviously grabs a bit more attentoin than a colored bezel, but still extreamly wearable in my opinion
I love this variation. You get a lot for your money, and you get a nice combination of modern and vintage looks. The midsize 36mm is also a great choice if you like that sizing better! Happy St Patty's Day everybody!
well, I wish omega did the 39mm casing, OMEGA DOESNT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER, LONGINES MAKES 39MM HYDROCONQUEST, TUDOR DOES THE 39 MM.PELAGOS, WHY CANT OMEGA CO LISTEN TO ME????
I have this one and the Electric Blue (2255.80) and I would not wear anything else !!! I think that you convinced me to it through your older video on this watch.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Wonderful video as always Britt. Keep up the terrific work. Congrats to you and your husband on your baby. I think I heard in another video that your husband was or is currently in the military. Please extend my appreciation for your husband's military service. I retired from the US Air Force and served for a second retirement from the US Dept of Homeland Security so in my spare time, I am a watch enthusiast.
This watch! I have had mine for a year now and was originally bought to see if I would like this style on my 6,5” wrist, as kind of a “warm up” to when/if I some day could afford a Submariner. I got it. Have not looked back since - dont need the Sub anymore 😊
This Seamaster Diver 300 reference has a character all its own - the markers and hands are much better in terms of size/shape in providing good lume at night. And this watch at 36mm, just manufique!! Omega needs to bring back a sub-40mm Seamaster 300 - lots of folks would prefer that sizing and buy a SMP who otherwise might not.
Salty! YES! This is the perfect word for it - CHARACTER! 😍👏🏻 it’s just so dang good!!! I completely agree re: omega bringing back the sub 40mm sizing. I really think they’re missing a trick here! Especially with the success of Tudor and the BB54. There’s an audiance for this!
A 300m wr watch with a HEV makes no sense to me especially a manual wind one. I agree a dive watch should not have a open case back. It's not a Patek Philippe Complications chronograph
Auntie Britt!! Thanks for the awesome video of one of my favorite watches. the 2254 is definitely a watch that could occupy room next to my Tudors. But the 2254 does compete in my heart with the 2201.50 Plant Ocean. Your non-pretentious use of a technical term has me thinking of taking a week of from work, re-watching all your previous videos and authoring the unofficial Britt's technical watch dictionary. Long Live the Cult(s), and 4:30 date windows.
DON H! In the HOUSE! 💕🎉 YOU KNOOOOW I could sooo see one of these in your collection! Gah! The PO. So freaking good! I’m so so tempted by one of the 39.5mm. ADD IT TO THE EVER GROWING LIST 😜 and I audibly laughed at the official Britt Pearce dictionary 🤣🤣🤣 omg. Muggles will have to make the list!
How is this video even related to Rolex 🥱 Seems like u r trying to convince urself that u made the right choice to buy an Omega instead of saving for Rolex 🙄
@@AlexanderB.Yeah if you like watches with parts from China. That's right the Swatch group has been outsourcing from China for years. Unlike Rolex that's 100p Swiss made. You know you're a undercover Rolex fan boy. That's why your bringing them up. Rolex has nothing to do with this and you still found a reason to talk about them
The quartz is the better variant IMO as the triangular wedge at 3 o’clock is the same size as the one at 9 o’clock and giving better symmetry. For some reason it is slightly smaller on the mechanical variant 🤔 I have mine on the modern seamasters rubber strap (a perfect fit) and it is my surfing watch.
I totally get this! Couple of weeks ago I had a new green, black and summer blue SMP in front of me but there was something about them to not buy one. But this neo vintage one just has more character and soul and I love that. Same as a 5 digit GMT Master… 🤩 Cheers Britt, hope you’re having a great weekend 🥳
Gah! You said it perfectly! It’s the CHARACTER! 😍 this is exactly it - 5 digit GMTs…. So freaking good! I’d absolutely love to buy one one day! If everything can just go really really well in the finances department! 😜💕
I have this watch. I bought it new for $2,000 CAD in 2000. I was just about to sell it to buy a Tag Heuer AquaRacer. I am now going to now keep my 2254! Thanks!!!
My favorite Omega, it rides low on the wrist, which makes it very comfortable. Looks to die for, yet they're a steal at the current asking price. I am in complete agreement re: casebacks as well.
Great video Britt! Can’t believe you didn’t mention the date window color difference too though. The black background on the 2254.50 is so much nicer than the bond variants with white background imo.
LOL, it's soooo true! I haven't even been swimming in over a year haha. But you know..... Watch people... We have this weird need to pretend we are commercial divers. ;)
Couldn’t agree more. Bought this exact watch as a 30th birthday present to myself back in 2001! I love it and still wear it and it is still in great condition. I wear it with the Omega Bond nato strap and it rocks. I don’t see many around either which is even better.
I bought the Reference: 2252.50.00 the mid-size of this in 2007 which was my first luxury watch and still in pristine condition even after daily use for 17 years. really loving this watch.
This comment is a 'bit late to the party' but I only discovered BP recently whilst looking to justify my purchase of a BB54. Agree with all her opinions, but Britt failed to mention that this was one of the last Seamasters with a quartz movement for those of us who wanted it as our daily 'beater'- also it was marketed as Pierce Brosnan & Sir Peter Blake's preferred dial - after 18 years think mine is a keeper!
I have the 2541 Bond and the 2264 (the best of both worlds). This design of Omega is superb - maybe the best dive/sports watch ever. At least equally as iconic as the Rolex Sub. I like the HEV - I'll never use it, but it is a functional device and adds a bit of extra 'interest' to the watch.
Great review that sent me on an unexpected detour in pursuit of my next watch… just scored a near mint condition “Schwerty” “Peter Blake” 2254.50 on Chrono24! Surprised how elegant and tooly it is at the same time! Honeymooning…
I have two variants of this watch, the 2534.50 Seamaster 300m GMT and the 2231.80 Titanium version. The GMT version has a white border around the date window, a bi-coloured 24hr rotating bezel and NO helium escape valve. The 2231.80 is all titanium, including bracelet. These however come with an electric blue sunburst wave dial. All the titanium case and bracelet is brushed so no attention grabbing polished surfaces and it weighs in a tiny 100g. The 2254.50 "Peter Blake" has really skyrocket in value in 2024 but you can still get great examples of the other two references for around the $2-3k USD range from Japan. FUN FACT: the neo-vintage Seamasters in the 41mm cases like this one can fit the current model SMP300's Omega rubber strap if you install it with curved spring bars. Perfect fit. Put a 2254.50 on a 2024 Omega black rubber strap if you want to see something truly special.
My 81 year old mum commandeered my 5450 a decade ago when discovering the joys of self winding as a loaner sue to hers having a did battery. She absolutely pulls off the 41mm, tou can too. There's an old webpage comparing the swordhanded to the submariner of the same era. Dully believe this watch is the reason Rolex had to up their game (because it isn't anything with skeleton hands that got them off their butts.)
To clarify, the modern helium escape valve represents a mini Reese's cup. Just got my first Omega 2 days ago, the silver bezel blue dial version (2255.80) of this watch. 😊
Nice review Britt, as usual. I have the GMT 2538.20 which pretty much has the same design but with a white dial and no helium valve at the 10, which to me has better symmetry 😉
This watch has been on my wish list for years and I just found one in mint condition with box and papers! First watch I got on the secondary market and am so happy. I’ve spent years looking and sometimes buying new watches that were close to this but after watching this video, I resolved to just get the perfect watch, even if it is 20 years old.
The 2254.50 is amazing. I just picked up a 2234.50 which is the 50th Anniversary Seamaster GMT. Its hard to find the one with the Speedy style bracelet as they are often mislabeled as a 2534.50 which is the same watch but with a foppish bracelet with a gold Omega logo. So same size and style with the awesome sword hands, but different Bezel and no He Escape valve, and obviously the GMT hand. there is also a 2536.50 which is a special Gerry Lopez edition, this one had a glass panel of the Hawaiian islands on the caseback that is often chipped. I hope you do a review of one of these someday, its an interesting variation of the 2254.50 from the same era with the cool GMT complication
The 165.024 is my favorite vintage Omega diver with the 2254.50 coming in a close second. Omega needs to make both versions (modern recreations) even if they are limited editions! Omega………I’m waiting!😎
Yes totally agree with most of your points on this reference Omega , I own the GMT version similar specs, size , case, hands , colour etc. Minus the helium escape valve. Absolutely love my watch
The sword hand SPM do not really share that much with the other SMPs. They have different dial, hands, date wheel, bracelet and bezel insert. They only share the case and movement. I wear mine on a modern SMP fitted rubber strap.
I love this watch as well, Britt ! Its my everyday watch. Great proportions, good looking , easy to reed dial, and not so flashy. I can use it every place I go. 😊
Great review. There was a time when this was my only watch…I’ve also reviewed it on my channel, but I found more faults with it. One of the biggest gripes is the unbalanced layout of the dial text…they should have put at the least the “Seamaster” name on the top half. I also didn’t care for the non-tapered bracelet. But I love how thin it was and I had no issues with the bezel. Thank you!
Having my 2265.80 stolen from my gym locker yesterday I can say, this watch will be missed from my collection, a daily for sure that I’ll need to replace with its identical version
sorry gringa i like the new seamaster, i have the SM300 pro with sedna gold blk dial rubber strap with gold clasp. am saving for planet ocean 43.5mm all sedna gold blue dial blue leather strap gold sedna clasp its only $30k this NOV23 2024 ill have it. it my bday that day a all gold watch for me.
I considered this one, but honestly I couldn't stand the HEV (the 'wart'). Why do they add that, when so many others have a simple, flat valve added to the side? So I turned to Rolex instead, and landed on the Sea Dweller 16600, with a flat HEV on the side, and no date cyclops. Clean, pure aesthetics and superb craftsmanship.
Great video! Got a question to all watch enthusiast... I always liked Omega Seamaster but since it is in very much the same price like Zenith el primero chronograph sport I've got a dilemma. Which one would you prefer and why?
I do love this watch so much. BTW such a bargain. I mean you can pick one up around £2k - holy shit that's some watch for the money, even with a few marks on it. If you see one on someone's wrist you know they're a serious watch person.
I bought mine following your first video. Awesome watch, best of the best Seamasters - from someone that have the modern ones. The smaller model you told about it is a quartz BTW.
Ahhhh only the REAL ONES have seen the first 2254.50 video! 😜 and big congrats on owning this one! And YES! You’re sooo right! The specific reference I showed is the quartz model! But I’m so so sure it is available in mechanical as well!
I did too. I believe that was about two years ago. I did not regret it. It addresses all the things I do not like on all the other SMP models. To me it is a plus to use a higher grade ETA movement over the Co-Axial. Easier to service and thinner.
Brittney I have the 2230.50 non-AC as my daily driver It’s the same as this reference aside from it having a white gold bezel Great value and I agree with all of your points
im with you on the looks. By far the better Seamaster. Except for the Planet Ocean. No Seamaster con touch the Planet Ocean. Oh, and by the way, it is NOT to big for your wrist...
I'm saving up for the black bezel with the white dial. I'm going with last year's model because of the red writing on the Seamaster. The new model doesn't have much red accents, and I'm a sucker for the different color that pops on the dial.😅😅
Great review. This one always caught my eye, but I ended up getting a Submariner 14060m instead. That was my grail. I've had it for a few years, and at first it is all I wore, but now I'm starting to getal a little bored with it. I been wearing vintage daytona homages rather than my Sub. Not sure what I will do.
Good review. But I really think you should clean your watch before the review. 😆 An old toothbrush and a drop of dish washing liquid should do. Looking forward to the next review.
Gringa you are almost right. The GMT is the best and is only let down by the bezel insert which does look a bit dated. Change that though and you get a completely different aesthetic, particularly as it doesn’t have the helium escape valve.
i actually dive with my watches - cold UK waters - eventually got rid of my seamaster - the scalloped bezel is next to useless - the He valve is just a weak point - if knocked could flood the watch - - went Pelagos instead - fixes all those things!!
Bought one 2 years ago and wore it almost everyday since then. Even this year that I got speedmaster added to my collection, still wearing it so often.
