Wow man,,,what a great video! Very informative and you and your camera mom deserve accolades. Great job and I picked up alot watching this one! You should try some pickled prawns or large shrimp next time you're in KW!!! Another one of my favorite pickled seafood. Love the idea of putting some orange peel or zest into the pickling solution,,,, I'm thinking that would be awesome. Thank you again and you folks please keep up the great work! Best!! 😎👍
Yummy 😋 As a Swede I do love herring and we have a standard pickeling brine called”123 brine” - 1 part vinegar (or ättika, very strong and acidic ),2 parts sugar and 3parts water - all boiled together and cooled - onions and spices of choice all go together in a jar with the already salted herring for a minimum of 24 hours in the refrigerator 😋✌🏽
Found the herring video!! Lol Man, does this bring back some memories! I sure don’t miss the snow and cold though! 😜 Fishing is fishing, so obviously catching isn’t guaranteed, but although I grew up in NJ, I used to fish in countless places for herring, and the absolute best spot I ever fished was Hudson Park in New Rochelle. You didn’t seem to be all too far from there. Next time you’re up that way and are having some difficulty finding the herring, maybe check that spot out. 👍
I'm Jewish and die for this stuff. Yes, obviously from Brooklyn. Have you ever pickled pilchards? I get them frozen from Restaurant Depot but can't find fresh herring anywhere. I'd love to catch them one day.
@@CookingWithClams that would be awesome. What's the ideal season to catch them? I live on the way upstate in Rockland County now, so I was wondering, do you know of anything up there? Any other suitable fish to pickle?
Here in MD the season is closed on Herring and Shad. Grilled Shad is amazing. My grandmother was Norwegian and passed the love of Pickled Herring on to me. What is your Mom's background?
Great video I will have to remember this when they are around my area (early spring). I must admid it made me think about how else could I get a hold of some raw herring. Wondering how well this would work with other fish. Do you have any other suggestions?
@@CookingWithClams we have mackerel also. TBH I really wanted to know if anyone has tried making a pickle fish out of haddock and how will it turn out as I have them freshly delivered to me everyday so I thought I’d ask. Appreciate the reply 👍🏼
@@CookingWithClams hey buddy. Just wanted to share with you that I have attempted to make it with haddock and you were right about it as all the flaks were in part ms and was a total disaster. At least it’s was another experience. Keep up with your good food and videos. All the best.
