I had no bites on my Panther Martins for about 4 hours this morning. I looked up this video, rigged this up (I luckily has one sliding weight in my box) and caught my first trout on the next cast! Thank you!
Great video! I’m a first-year-fisher teaching myself thru trial and error. This video was super helpful. Im going to grab some egg weights and hit the secret spot today. It seems i have most of the right equipment, just not set up right. Keep em coming bud, im subscribing!!
See I use the power eggs instead cuz the stay on the hook better in my experience and we just use your normal single hook and usually have no problems. I've never used a treble so I'll give it a try
I've done both treble and single hooks with powerbait and powereggs and I've had good luck with both.. But I'm able to set the hook much better with A size 16 treble hook
Power eggs are definitely the way to go. Keeps your rig in the water fishing longer. Put 2 power eggs on a size 6 egg hook. Been super successful for me. And I can catch and release all day on the same 2 power eggs.
Have never had good luck with the dough. Mainly just use powerbait eggs now. This year over half the trout I've caught have been with mice tail and pro cure garlic gel. The other half a single egg or two eggs and mealworm. I'm up over 400 trout for the year. Mostly catch and release.
I personally use a water bobber and fill it to try and prevent snags I also use salmon peach glitter power bait!! Got a massive 26 inch rainbow trout in strawberry reservoir.
I use this exact set up I add a bead between the weight to protect the knot, and I add a small quarky above the hook to add presentation and buoyancy, and I use a thumb size power bait for bigger fish! Love to see the trout tutorials!
I’ve never understood how to affix a bead. Are you supposed to crush it against the line? Stick the line through it twice? And don’t you need something on the other side so that the powerbait doesn’t just float all the way to the surface?
Treble hook is just a bad idea unless you're keeping all the fish don't matter of the size. I used single barless hook incase I catch a tiny one and I don't want to keep it I can release unharm also its easier to take it out to!
Im starting to use small eagle claw J hooks, they have reverse barbs which keeps bait on hook better then trebles and allow a deep hook set. Aside from that how do you know what colors to choose? Theres 100s of power bait options these days does colour really matter?
Depends what the trout are in the mood for. Normally anything garlic scented works really well or power bait that’s really glitter looking. Take rainbow garlic out and see if they are interested. Give it 20-30 min and try a different approach and color scheme. Hope that helps -Fishing Manager for Sportsman’s Warehouse
I use 12, 16, or 18 treble hooks. Less than 12 size is too heavy for the hook and might cause it to sink rather than staying afloat which is what you want.
What’s the best way to prevent gut hooking? I do have some treble hooks and single hooks. Because of where I fish mostly, I don’t know for sure how deep the water is; that’s why I don’t use the egg weight but the Powerbait on a hook and a bobber. Sadly, despite having 5 different Powerbaits, I have yet to catch any fish using them; I have caught my fish on Mousetails, power eggs, and trout magnets.
Im a bit curious with the sliding weight. I typically use a swivel and snap at the end of the reel line. I then put a sinker in the snap along with my litre. Is there much of a difference? One benefit I see in yours is less tangling.
The purpose of the sliding weight is that it allows the fish to eat the bait and swim away because it won’t feel the tension from the weight on the line because the line is sliding through the weight. This is established by placing a bobber on your main line under the eyes on the top of your rod but you must put slack in the line so the bobber hangs a few feet from your rod. When your bobber starts rising that’s how you know you had fish on.
My powerbait does not float on my 6 lb line. Am I rolling my dough ball too small? I set up my feet leader line with a treble hook using a Carolina rig.
I caught a wild rainbow using green/glitter powerbait in a semi-fast flowing section of the American River (I didn't plan on it, but my daughter wanted to try during a camping weekend). I didn't have any lures with me, so I thought 'why not' and looked for a somewhat still, deep section from the bank. She told me that she felt it tugging, and sure enough, she caught a 1 lb beauty! Vibrant colors on this fish....so it can be done!
Hey guys, I used this set up a few times and I keep getting stuck at the bottom and always end up having to cut my line. What am I doing wrong ? Thanks
Was your leader 6lb he said for it to float it needed to be light... when your reeling in.. reel in and just before your line is about to start pulling your weight pull up and back and reel in fast and don’t stop... this will help from getting snagged because now your weight and hook are skimming at the top of the water instead of dragging at the bottom looking for stuff to get stuck on
@@AddictedFishing its one of my dreams to catch big browns on the fly there but ill probably never me able to. I'm just going to focus on catching an Oregon or Washington steelhead for now. I got my salmon already but I keep breaking off steelhead. Or they spit the hook.
Your a guide? Guides dont use Power bait! Dead fish floating all over the lake because of treble hooks yanked out of their gut. Get some lures or a fly fishing rod and learn how to fish.
I HATE PB! just because it works so good lol . I always use worm a mini jet puff mallow. And when I am not getting bit, thats when I will grab the pb. lol chartreuse no sparkle original scent is my go to. fish on boys and girls!
Good question, idk if one is better than the other. If it floats on top of the water the fish may go after it just the same as if it was suspended floating from the bottom. If you float it from the bottom you can control where it is in the water column and target the depth where the fish may be swimming.
