This video is a guide to the best electric guitars for beginners. The guitars on this list of best electric guitars for beginners are all guitars I have owned, played, or had experience with on reviews.
This is not a list of the most inexpensive guitars. While some of the guitars might be less expensive than others, these will save you a fortune while still being extremely playable. These are not only great guitars for beginners, but if you are more experienced, you'll also enjoy them!

Great choices for beginners. The quality for the money is spot on. In the 60’s I started out with a Vox electric. Calling it a piece of crap is an insult to crap.

I always seem to overlook Yahmaha guitars, but I've played a few of them and they are actually very nice. I actually have a pretty inexpensive Yahmaha bass and I like it better than my slightly more expensive Peavy bass. Great picks! I think anyone new to guitar wouldn't be held back by any of them. I see Steam on your Desktop. What games do you play?

Yamaha Pacifica was my beginner guitar, swapped it this year to SSS Texas Specials(on your recommendation) and it sounds great and neck still feels amazing. The Gretsch looks great I was considering a double cut version but local shop never had any stock all year. Gave up waiting and ended up with Epiphone Modern SG which is a great high quality guitar but it's hefty weight wise. I bought my son a Squier mini (he's 4) it's a little heavy but with a well padded strap he can play it, it's not a toy and the neck pick up sounds sweet.

@@tomasotreasaigh111 If you sit on your arse and play at home then it won't bother you but trying to do 3-4 hours standing gig with an overly heavy guitar is not a lot of fun :)

@@tomasotreasaigh111 Again, if you sit down and play all of the time it doesn't make any difference. The more comfortable a guitar is, the better it is for most people, especially gigging musicians.

Yeah, I have a CV 50s tele. Freaking love it, the finish is great for a squier, the neck, while not satin finished, the skunk stripe looks great, it always stays in tune, and the pickups sound great. Obviously not fender level but still the best bang for your buck out there!

Great video, Shane. Thank you. I consider myself an advanced guitarist. One of my gigging guitars is a Squier Bullet hard tail Strat. I just added a rails humbucker in the bridge and wired the middle tone pot to go to the bridge pickup so smooth out the bridge pickup tone. I love the guitar very much. Lightweight. And for someone like me with arthritis in my left shoulder it’s so comfortable. There were no sharp fret ends and the stock tuners keep the guitar in tune.

You're right of course but i had one from the late '60s, An Audition (Teisco) Jazz-alike, bought from my best friend for $12.00 in late '72 when i started playing for keeps (had acoustics around, never got anywhere). Wasn't easy to play but great to learn on. Gold Foils and yes i sold it back to him for the same price when i got a Harmony Rocket II a couple of years later. Bakers dozen here and i still I miss both.

My first guitar was in 1966 it was a domino Californian. With a silvertone amp. I don't think we ever set the guitars up we didn't know how. I thought the truss rod raised and lowered the strings. I know my fingers hurt. I found pictures of the band it looks really cool with all the cheap guitars and silvertone amps. We used to play "Gloria" 24/7. Then I went into the military. In the seventies I just drank. I didn't play much. My father sold all my stuff when I was in the military. My first real guitar was in 1980 when I got married and took a $400 loan and I bought a Westbury amp and a Gibson "the SG."

@@guitarocd9984 Wow,,,crazy great story. Glad you got on the horse again,,,been there... My next guitar was a '64 SG Standard. $150 in '75 with a wrongly reset (flat) neck. Shoulda fixed it. '76 buy a '75 Strat, SB, MN like new. Great but would get slippery at jams. Met a nice gal in '77 and on my own at 20.Traded the Strat for a total POS LP Custom Copy and $40.00 (some history with the shop). I was courting. Still in love. Moved to an apt so really couldn't jam and sold everything, Great little Magnatone amp Big Muff,,,, '81, move to a bigger place. Neighbor played. Borrowed a guitar from him and an amp from a friend. He'd just bought a Westbury :) Even after the time passed, i plowed thru Yesterday And Today tunes. Next thing my wife greenlights a Aria CS250 and the amp i borrowed, a Moon 45 (later given back when i bought a Mace, '82). the rest is history. Inspired by this, played a guitar she gave me nearly 10 years ago, Vista Series Squire JagMaster. I love this offset.

These are great times for beginners. Actually not just for them for all the players. Companies like Joyo, Caline are making great pedals. Also you have more access to boutique builders that don't live around you as well. I recently bought a SviSound mosfet fuzz that i saw in one of your old videos. Mike, the builder is Bulgaria, i'm in Canada and you're in Australia Shane, what a connection 🙂 that was just impossible like 15 years ago. I think I bought my first electric guitar 16-17 years ago. It was a brand called "GK" cost me someting like 300$ the pickup were much worse than you can find at a guitar at half price today and the neck felt like a saw 🙂 imagine the guitars that you can find at that price today as a beginners guitar

Been playing about a year and have a few acoustics and had and sold a Gibson SG due to it not quite being comfortable enough for me personally.Recently bought an Epiphone electro acoustic and it has made me realise how much I hate narrow necks,which Epiphone seem to have. My second hand fender squier acoustic is much more confortable to play but the body is too big. The point I'm making is that fretboard size or width,fretboard shape,body size etc, all become more important than price which you have hinted at in this video. I have a little 3/4 sized Yamaha and I like it and its made me take a look at the Yamaha Revstar which I thought might make the list given its similar in price range to the Gretsch.

I' ve been practising for 6 months with my accoustic guitar and now I want to buy an electric one. I have a limited budget of 500 euros and after checking your videos and comparing specs I'm very undecided between an Epiphone SG Standard and a Squier CV strat. In case I'll buy the Strat I would like to ask you which one would you recommend me the CV 60's or the CV 70's ( HSS)? Thank you very much for your attention. Warmest regards from Northern Spain.

You have made some great choices, i totaly agree with the Squire Classic Vibe and Yamaha Pacifica 112V. The Harley Benton's may not be a good idea for a beginner unless you have a friend that can set it up for you and upgrade the tuners, pots and pickups. The important point for any beginners guitar is that it is easy to play or you will not put in the all important practice. Buy the best you can afford, cheap starter guitars as best avoided.
@ces69
@ces69 3 года назад
Totally disagree with you on the Harley Benton’s! I’ve had 3 and still have 2 of them! And although I have now done some upgrades to put the guitars in the “next” league up, none of them were essential with all of them playing great from the start! I actually had to do a lot more to my Epiphone Les Paul junior upon first acquiring than any of the Harley Benton’s! So anyone considering a Harley Benton, don’t be put off, buy with confidence! If you are in Europe their return policy is excellent if there should be any defects! From what I hear, not so good if you live further afield!

If Keith Richatds had clocked the stage jumper with an SX tele he be doing 20 to life in the iron bar motel. Rondo is also an Agile dealer. The owner is responsive and available to discuss his products and has dealt with me in a straight forward manner. I do wish that Agile would return to some more traditional guitar shapes though. Over my guitar playing life I've had them all. Top of the range Gibsons and Fenders. As I've got older I've realised I was buying a name. Over the past couple of years I've gone 'down market', and I love it. Some of the best guitars I have are in the lower end of the mid price range, mainly Epiphones, before you part with £2,000+ for the name, play them side by side through the same amp, you'll be surprised that 10x the price doesn't get you 10 times the guitar. I should know, been there many times.

I think that the 'classic' LP is my least favorite style of guitar in terms of looks but Gretsch on the other hand is so beautiful

If we're brutally honest with ourselves...which can be difficult after spending thousands on gear.... some of our "Top Tier" gear...isn't all that. I can't remember the last time I played an off the shelf American made Fender or Gibson that was really worth what they were selling for. Expensive decals, maybe, but that was about it. Some of these new, inexpensive, guitars could hold their own against any off the shelf major brands. With some minor work, some could even surpass their obscenely expensive counterparts. Thanks for the video. I hope it helps inspire beginners and not-so-beginners alike, to expand their musical horizon.

One caveat for the Classic Vibe 60s Strat. Make sure you get an older one, the one with the tortoise shell pickguard. They changed the pickups in the newer versions and they do not sound the same at all. They are far more sterile and unappealing compared to the first iterations of the CVs.

Thanks for the update! The one I played in the clip I posted was from last year and it was still pretty good but I haven't tried the most recent one.

What year models would that flow in? I have heard superb things about the early models. What type of pickups were in them? Thanks for the information ?
@thejoshbtv
@thejoshbtv 3 года назад
@@hlcotten6587 I do not know the exact model years. I believe the CV models were just changed for the 2020 model year. I do not know exactly what the pickups were versus what they are now, but there is a distinct difference from the first model compared to the current model. There is a lack of warmth that the originals had. The first run of CV 60s Strats were only available in 3 tone sunburst with a tortoise shell pick guard. The new model offers the 3 tone but with a white pick guard and they also added the lake placid blue color with a white pick guard. So unless someone has changed the pick guard, that can be your identifier of the different models. I had a 2017 and it was great. I think anything prior to 2020 should all be the same. You should research the year that the new ones were introduced, but I'm pretty sure its 2020.
@thejoshbtv
@thejoshbtv 3 года назад
@@intheblues Yeah I would just say skip the new one if you liked the original ones. Unless you like Lake Placid Blue, there's no reason to get the newer model when you can find the older ones all over the place.

I still can’t believe the tones I get out of the Harley Benton TE-52...not bad considering it was only $125 a few years ago....I think they raised the price a tad bit but I think it’s still under $200 which is a steal.

What constitutes a beginner ? I've been back playing now for a few months and can get round the fret board ok and have no problem with bar chords ; not saying I'm Jimi Hendrix but can play a little bit. Oh note to add , I'm playing an eastcoast gs100h which cost 99 pounds, so do feel I need an upgrade .

Have one of these with the extra jumbos. It’s my favorite practice guitar because the frets teach and remind you to not press down too hard.

What almost everybody underestimates as possible joykiller is the nut. If the nut isn't good, it's next to impossible to setup the guitar properly thus spoiling the playability significantly.

No one mentions Cort in these videos. I have a CR150 and it is the best LP copy I’ve ever played. Beautiful guitar. They make awesome acoustics too. The CR series are much Better than the epiphone or Harley Benton humbucker guitars! Give them a go mate!
