The price,height and weight are winners for me , we have an off-road van, so spending $6500 for side trips is to much, and now knowing it’s dust proof is great, thanks for the honest review 👍( on the dust subject, how’s the moonlight air box performing) ps: check out the ryobi clamp fan if you already have ryobi batteries , only 4 inch swivel head and huge run time according to reviews, only available online as far as I can find at the moment.

Loving the Moonlight Box - will be doing my review on it soon……it’s 100% dust free & peace of mind is amazing 🤩…knowing that it works 👌🏻. Appreciate the heads up regarding the clamp fan, I’ll definitely check it out.

@@great_offroad_adventures that’s good to know as I’m ordering mine on Monday 😂, I’ve been holding off cause, everything else for the build is a three month wait 🤦‍♂️, I’ve decided that with under 30,000 km on the clock, I’m not going to rely on the Toyota box👍

Hey guys, thanks for such an informative and thorough review. I’m just about to buy a Motop and I’m probably going to follow your lead and replace the mattress with an inflatable. Two questions, when you’re deflating the mattress each morning, how do you get enough air out of it that it compresses down to 4cm? Does that process add much time to your pack down? Many thanks.

My comment disappeared :( Oh, well, they are just words, easily reproduced. I thought your presentation was absolutely excellent. Covered all the points that I at least am interested in, and your mods are perfectly sensible with the latches and the mattress. Hopefully Motop's latest model has been upgraded with those two mods. With power in the tent, a small connector in the cable is all you need so you can easily remove the wiring. Just unplug and toss the loose lead in the tent when you want to remove it. You may end up using the motop after you get a camper if/when kids come along, so don't offload it too quickly.

Thank you for such a great review really appreciate it for someone starting out trying to work out what's what ... it'd very overwhelming when you have nothing trying to pick everything from a tent to a car to a cook top or whatever. You are both very down to earth and honest and it helps so much to get this kind of review!

Hey mate, enjoyed the vid. Just wondering if you don’t mind: What roof rack is it sitting on? And is the awning and shower tent mounted on the rack or the tent? Thanks
@great_offroad_adventures
@great_offroad_adventures 2 года назад
I’m running a tracklander flat rack (1800x1200mm) and the awning and ensuite are mounted to the rack, so the tent can be removed when we tow the camper, but easily re installed when we don’t want to tow the camper. It means the tent is 25mm higher (isn’t a deal breaker) than it otherwise would be if we removed the rack.

Also V5 for sale now instead of V2 which we own….V5 now carpet lined, anti condensation matting, roof pockets, larger awning/ fly & the big one different dimensions (about 10-15cm longer)…….that’s why it’s heavier.

Really good review. Very well done with lots of really good tips. Im going to purchase a Motop after seeing your review and have a daul cab 4x4. Possibly a silly question but does it need to sit on a platform rack or can it span from ladder rack to ladder rack which is 1600mm apart. Could you suggest the simplest set up in this scenario. Thanks again. Mike

Hi guys a good honest review.. well done. just wondering 1) have you slept in the tent when it's really windy outside and was there noise coming from any flapping canvas? 2) can you open up the windows to let air in during rain and still not get wet inside ?
@great_offroad_adventures
@great_offroad_adventures 3 года назад
Good questions 1) Yes we’ve put it through some wind and the canvas doesn’t flap very much at all……but the tags on the zips rattle (some heat shrink around each stops that). 2) You can’t have the side windows open with rain, but you can have the head window open as it has the annex/ awning over it.

How do you find get in and out from the side entrance during the rain ? With the canvas open to the bottom, i can see the bed can get really wet
@great_offroad_adventures
@great_offroad_adventures 3 года назад
It’s not too bad, if you know it’s raining and need to get out, you can do it pretty quick and not get the bed all that wet. A side awning would be nice, but it’d need to retain the quick and easy setup mantra.

Yeah mate - it’s an annoying decision to have to make. If your going to use it a lot and have no plans to ever get rid of it, then it’d be easier for me to justify the extra money, but I only need the motop to do a couple years and then it won’t be used very much, hence why opted for the cheaper option.
@blakeelliott1598
@blakeelliott1598 3 года назад
Great review guys! Have you mounted it to the platform rack, or direct to the backbone system rails? Seen another 200 / motop combo direct to the backbone rails, saving more height
@great_offroad_adventures
@great_offroad_adventures 3 года назад
I’ve retained the Tracklander flat rack under mine, which adds 25mm of height. Means the awning and ensuite have something solid to mount to & often when we remove the tent we want the roof rack….so it’s a catch 22, if I needed too, I would remove the rack, but I don’t need to.
@waynetobane8814
@waynetobane8814 3 года назад
Hi so all up what is the weight of setup? and how many mounting points on the roof rack?
@great_offroad_adventures
@great_offroad_adventures 3 года назад
Awning 19kg, tent 60kg, ensuite 10kg, solar & lights 10kg, which would make 100kg plus the weight of the rack which is 15kg. So all up 115kg on the roof, fortunately the 200 series has a 200kg roof load rating as do the Tracklander racks. The rack mounts across 6 points with 12x bolts holding it to the roof, the tent across 4 points with 8 bolts to the rack, the awning across 3 mounts with 12 bolts and ensuite has 2 mounts with 8 bolts.

bought a motop rooftop tent about a year ago.Was lifting it off my car this morning and could hear water slushing around in the bottom panel. Not leaking out anywhere. Could just hear it sloshing from end to end as you lift it up. Sounds like there is a decent amount of water in there The tent has been great, bit of condensation but nothing major. Had only been used a couple of times and looked after really well. Can't find any info online about this happening to anyone else. Anyone got any ideas?
@mattwilkinson3264

I had one, and returned it, due to water leaking through the top roof rivets. I didn't know where the water was coming in, but the business i bought it off stated it was a known issue. Never again for me!
@TM-fd3fs
@TM-fd3fs 3 года назад
@@mattwilkinson3264 Cheers Matt. I figure a bit of silicone on the rivets may fix that. I hear you and that shit should be sorted in production. Did the water get into where you sleep?
@mattwilkinson3264
@mattwilkinson3264 3 года назад
@@TM-fd3fs Yeah initially the business said to fix myself with silicone, but I figure it said a lot toward the quality of the build. I had water seeping from the sides inward, but mainly from the front portion. And the bottom channels also allowed some water in. So all up I figured it best to get my money back during the warranty period.
