One of the questions that we get asked the most is: “What is the best shoe for working out in?”. Here at Mind Pump we like to weightlift. So today we are going to show you the shoes you should wear while lifting!
The most common shoe that people wear are shoes like the AirMax or traditional sneaker. These shoes can be fine if you are doing an upper body workout, but they can be very dangerous when you are doing a lower body workout such as a squat or a deadlift. The cushion limits the amount of force you can create when you are pushing your foot into the ground. It’s almost like generating force off a pillow.
The easiest and cheapest option that you can do is use a converse shoe. The reason is because the shoes are flat and the outsole allows you to have support and create extra contact with the floor. Here’s a link to purchase the converse we recommend: tinyurl.com/y3nxxhbb
The best shoe that you can have while weightlifting is a lifting shoe, sometimes called a riser. If you are going to be doing things such as olympic weight lifting, heavy duty front-squatting or back squatting, then a lifting shoe is recommended. The built in heel allows the femur to travel more forward and get more quad activation and ankle mobility. The one downside though is that it is an artificial ankle mobilizer. Bonus Tip! If you are squatting then weightlifting shoes are perfect! But when you are deadlifting you should either use regular, flat shoes, or go barefoot. The reason for this is that the elevated heel lets the knee travel more far forward, but when we do things like deadlift, we want to use our posterior chain.
