NICe👍 It looks like the shift knob is at least 3" taller than stock. Do you in any time find this to tall? Or do you ever wish it to be a bit shorter or closer to stock??? THX
@@milanmastracci you should look into IRP too. They have crazy catalog for bmws if you want to drift them. I don't think they have any think to offer for the Zs, but for example shifters are as cool as notchy as Coolerworx ones
Anyone watching this clamp the shifter rod first then cover the knob with a terry towel and use a strap wrench around the terry towel hold the clamp in place and proceed to loosen it helps to have someone hold the clamp steady while you twist the knob off.
Any adjustments to the throw after the shifter is installed? Been eyeing this shifter for a solid year and this video is by far the best how to / explanation of the cooler worx system for the 370. Now I’m sold.thanks man and keep up the 370 content
I played around with the adjustment screws a tad and it feels much better now! A bit less buzzing too. I'm going to see if I can find the physical location of the noise
I don’t have a 370, but I have a 350z, I swapped my stock shifter for a weighted Mishimoto one and I never had troubles getting my stock one off, took 2 hands and a bit of strength 🤷🏻♂️ I’m no hulk but definitely wasn’t as tight as yours
I got my shift knob off without any damage at all. All you have to do is use a heat gun and it helps break it loose easier just use gloves or a towel so you don’t burn your hands
Hey man I was on the 370z forums messaging you about double clutching! what's up! getting a B&M short shifter and having it installed soon. The Coolerworx looked like it stood a bit high and I prefer resting my elbow on the center console cubby so went w/ B&M.
@@milanmastracci Were you able to fix the buzzy sound at high rpms?? Im asking you because everything was fine when it was oem, then I installed a torque solutions short shifter and started having that wired sound at high rpms, so I got rid of it and went back to oem, but I still have that buzzing sound
This works perfect on 370 Z‘s if they do not have a black box blocking the two lower bolts that go into the fork otherwise you’re going to have to remove the black boxes to remove the lower fork bolts I have a G 37 sedan 2012 S model manual transmission and I found out this hard way.
Do you need the exact short shifter that ur car requires or you csn buy any short shifter of your choice? And how do i know which one to get. Would he really gratefull if you answer 🙏❤
Am I missing something but why do you need to remove the stock gear knob if you are taking the whole stock shifter assembly out and replacing the entire unit
how does the reverse play into this shifter? most short throws have a locking tab that hold it in reverse. how does this shifter alleviate that? explaining the reverse shouldve been a main topic in this video in my opinion
Man for the price and elimination of that oem spring bucket, you would think the rattle would be absent. I have both the torque solutions and stillen shifter and they both rattle
Yes and yes. Engine & transmission poly mounts 👍 You can run stock mounts, but I would suggest upgrading to prevent movement between the transmission housing and the shifter assembly.
I had a bunch of noises on high-RPM deceleration that drove me nuts. Feels amazing, but if the buzzing is intolerable, I wouldn't suggest this shifter.
Second on removing the stock shifter without damages. I even try to use the rubber torque grip and not vice grip hoping to save it for mementos to no avail. What year is your Z? And how did you keep your 14mm bolts so clean? Mine is a '09 and pretty much all 14mm bolts that I had tried to removed so far are rusted/ or stripped. At one point, I gave up after sawzall'ed the bolts out of the exhaust system and paid the the mechanic a whole day to torch the last few ones to put in the HFC. Been following you for a while and found you originally by looking for review of the RJM Clutch Pedal Kit. My Z shifter now is rattling at 2500~3500 rpm and seemed to improved after my recent oil change. I'm unsure if the problem was from the transmission mounts but I might as well replace the urethane transmission mounts & this shifter if I have to go back under the car and struggle.. lol
Yeah I don't know how the shift knob could be salvaged.. My Z is a '14 and barely sees rain, let a lone snow and salt. Yeah some of those exhaust bolts can be a huge pain in the a**. Eh that's awesome! Thanks for sharing that! 👊
YO You have the same rattling that I have when you're at high rpm and then just kinda letting the car coast. Sounds like bb pellets in a bottle or something. Do you know what it is lol?
It is because there aren't rubber bushings or anything in this unit, so the vibrations from the trans go directly into the shifter. I haven't found a way around it unfortunately.
Always before you make your decision to buy always research because you will be living with that decision for a long time. I almost bought the stillen shifter and Stillen gave me such a hard time canceling the order and even charged me a 15% restocking fee on a item I never received. I’m never buying from stillen again.
@@milanmastracci that rattle sounds so light. My first thought was it's the collar you pull up for reverse? If it is, you might be able to add a bit more tension on the cable to pull it down. Doesn't sound horrendous, but I can see it being annoying.
Most how-to guides advise to have alternate mole grips or similar on both the knob and the shaft so that when you put that much force anti clockwise on the knob, you support the shaft twisting clockwise, so force on the lower assembly is reduced and you're not damaging the lower mechanical parts/ box.
I’ve been having second thoughts about getting a short shifter for my z. I heard it’s not worth it bcs it can damage the synchros & also that the gates are short enough already. What do you think man? Great vids 🤘
@@milanmastracci I get it but I’m not really trying to expend that much money on it. What do you think about the “torque solution short shifter” from import image racing?
