Is the Princess S72 the best model in Princess's S Class range? Quite possibly. In fact, we reckon it might be the best boat in its entire range!
In this sea trial and review of the Princess S72, Jack Haines gets behind the wheel to experience the performance, sea keeping and handling of this 75ft sportsbridge before giving you a full walkthrough tour of the decks and interior.
What makes the S72 so good? It's based on the Y72 so it has the same very good four-cabin arrangement on the lower deck with private access to the owner's suite. Its top deck, though smaller than a normal flybridge yacht, is still a really good size and you get the benefit of a sunroof too. Plus, with its twin 1,800hp MAN V12 engines it will do nearly 40 knots.
This performance creates a broad cruising band. It will cover 1,000nm at displacement speed but you can comfortably cruise at 25 or 35 knots, too.
There's a lot to like about this boat but watch the video and judge for yourself. Don't forget to tell us what you think in the comments section.

As a yacht builder I must say this S72 is beautifully made. The fit and finish looks to be to the highest quality, even the attention to the wood grain, having it "laying" throughout the boat is a touch which says that no expenses were spared. I may have my favoritism towards the Nordic all weatherboats, but this yacht just seems perfect in all aspects through and through.

There is a lot that can be said about the s72. I’ve been a huge fan of the s class since the s65 was launched in 2015 later replaced by updated s66, the best looking boat in decades in its category imo. But the s72 is just a masterpiece in every way! The hard top isn’t necessary and it looks so much better without it. I had a pleasure to be on this boat for a day at my local dealer in Sweden, and wow! What a boat and with the 1800hp man v12s it’s crazy how this boat accelerates when you go full throttle. Then the design and attention to detail in everything from the helm position to the cabins is just perfect! Princess at its very best!

@Thjonsson1
@Thjonsson1 5 месяцев назад
@@Maximius38 good question, those are the ce categories right? And which kind of seas the boat is built to handle? Am I right?
@Maximius38
@Maximius38 5 месяцев назад
@@Thjonsson1 Yes: Class A: they are ideal for sailing in the open sea, being able to withstand winds of up to 80 kilometers per hour and waves of up to 4 meters. Class B: this type of yacht is designed to sail in coastal waters at a maximum distance of 320 kilometers. So Class A is designed and built to exceed small craft structural requirements for ISO Category A Ocean. ISO requirements for strength are based on a design’s top speed and the expected impact to be absorbed by hull bottom and sides, as well as decks, bulkheads, structural grid, and any part of the vessel’s structure. The laminate schedule and materials are then specified to meet such stringent requirements. PS: many Manifacturer stay at Class B because of the passengers weight, that's why they claim to handel 20 passengers VS class A only 16, because they don't need a lot of ISO/else requirements asked for a Class A.

Hi Jack, thanks for posting this beautiful video, and as always, kudos for your skills. This boat is gorgeous, just like all Princess boats. The only thing I'd wish for is an additional dayhead, like the one on the Sunseeker 65 Sport. That would ensure perfect privacy for guests and better service for friends dropping by. Another thing that consistently surprises me a bit negatively is the lack of sound insulation below deck. I believe top-notch shipyards like this should pay more attention to these details. Ciao!

As this boat is designed for the warmer climate I don’t know why they insist on the inside dining area . This area should be used for another sideboard with refrigeration and food storage / bar glasses . The lounge area could then have opposing sofa which would make it more social plus high low table if you really wanted to dine inside .. on a different note , Thankyou Jack for such informative professional walk throughs and test drives . Far better than Nick just opening cupboards and to afraid to say anything that might upset the builder . Great work

I would definitely pick the Princess over their competition in the S 72 class. I would actually choose princess over the others in every size range. Their engine room alone is far better than Sunseeker. Look at the Sunseeker 100 engine room compared to the y or x 95 of Princess, no comparison Princess far out classes their competition. My favorite is the y80

A sports bridge with a hard-top is a big no no for me I'm afraid. Ruins those sleek lines otherwise. It would be great to see a detailed and direct comparison to the Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht as personally I think it would be a very difficult choice between the two. Great review Jack - it was worth the frostbite from my perspective!
@Thjonsson1

Agree on the hard Top thing, but as jack said it can be specced without it, which is the normal option and looks so much better! But does the sunseeker sport yacht really match the s72 in looks? The sunseeker is a little too much glass for me

@@Thjonsson1 Indeed. Hydraulic pram-style hood every time. It’s a fair challenge. Both are exceptional so I think ultimately it will come down to personal choice. I think the Princess is more expensive but in context I don’t think that will bother many potential buyers!!

Awesome review. Thanks. I would opt for the hardtop. It looks cool on teh S72, but the main reason whould be, that the hardtop raises teh radar arch above the ehad of the skipper and the radar beam away from the people. Otherwise the radar would beam would be directed at the heads of the people on the fly

Terrific video about my dream yacht. Only thing I don't understand is why Princess stick with MAN Diesels, great engines but do not offer joystick control. If I were to purchase a boat such as this, I would be putting the hard word on Princess to have Cummins power complete with Zeus joystick control that also includes their skyhook control. Being a bit of a novice with big boats, if I am trying to dock stern in to a marina with a 40km/hr nor-Easter going across the bow, then I want all the help I can get and joystick control, etc. gives this. Be ready Princess as I am coming to you with this request! Oh, and Humphreys fins as well, Hah, hah. I think you know what the response will be, like I do.

@@SeanSoraghan nice comment but not sure I agree. When the running costs and deprecation account for approximately 25% of the cost of the boat each year then I think fuel costs will make a significant impact. Boats are generally out of one's own pocket unlike company cars which can be offset somewhat but I do see your point.

Very nice, the interior is beautiful and timeless, without being too gaudy (Sunseeker?). I'd have this over the Azimut or Sunseeker. The Sunseeker has no flybridge but equally fast, and the Azimut looks lovely but I don't like the idea of having the galley up front where the little jump seat area is on the Princess, and is 5 knots slower. Wondering whether fin stabilisers are an option, I think they are on the Y72. Mind you maybe not needed if the hull is so good, maybe the Seakeeper is good enough when underway, or maybe stabilising trim tabs can be had as well. I think that front storage space on the bow was a fridge, it had a blue contol knob inside it. For the options, I'd be tempted to have a bimini too, maybe add another knot or two to the top speed due to less aerodynamic drag (especially with it folded down), and a tiny bit less weight. It does look very sleek with no hardtop. I'd have the extra seat in the cockpit instead of the fridge, must make the area much more welcoming given it's a bit smaller than on 'full fat' flybridge boats of similar size, and bin the ice maker inside the galley area and put a drinks fridge there instead, and buy a bag of ice somewhere, or an ice cube tray or two. Passerelle, teak decks and desert spec. aircon would be on my list too, if I had this (around £5m short right now though) I would definitely take it along Biscay and down to the med. for a trip every so often. And Sunroof has to be essential surely. If I was lucky enough to be in the position, I'd convert one of the downstairs bedrooms into a second lounge, have a sofa bed on the floor, pullman bed on the wall and a big screen TV. Could be used as an office too, or just somewhere for people to chill out separately from others, like the downstairs dinettes on some of the V class boats. Think the old Princess 52 used to have an extra internal lounging area as an option instead of a cabin, and it looked very nice. I think some of the old big Princesses were 40 knot flying machines, V65 rings a bell, seems like a return to form, a bit like Fairline with the new Squadron 58. There seems to be no weak points with this boat. It sacrifices a small amount of saloon and cockpit space for the garage, but very practical still. The speed factor must appeal to many, cruising at 35 knots instead of 25 knots will get somewhere nearly 30% faster. Not bad on fuel either, about 0.35 nmpg at 25 knots. I hope Princess can keep up with production, as like the Y72 and Y80 this boat does look like a great allrounder and has a good turn of speed, and the interior is so consistent and beautiful. Every inch of it looks the same quality. Some of the massive superyachts have cheap looking timber and big slabs of white GRP in places, no doubt as it costs more £££ to make a larger boat have nice surfaces everywhere as there's more and more surface area to cover. Maybe Princess will fit a slightly quicker steering rack after your feedback to improve the response. The only thing missing that I thought would be nice to have would be a small 2-person teak-lined seat integreated into the back of the garage door, so when the garage is closed you can sit in the bathing platform area and look out over the water. That single seat in the saloon does look like a great spot.

I sit around and dream up a yacht, then Princess makes it. It just seem right for me. I would take the Princess over the Sunseeker or Azimut. Though as always, I'd take any if given to me. Assuming I know how to type numbers in Google it costs something like $5500 to fill this boat with Diesel. So it's like $5k to go like go from Portsmouth to Bristol - assuming the various free distance calculators on the internet are something like right.
