In seven card stud, I look when I receive both hole cards because I have to compare them to other players' up cards. For Hold 'Em and PLO I look when it's my turn, but sometimes check the first two in PLO and the other two when I get them.

Keep in mind that when you wait until it is your turn to check your cards the people immediately to your left are "waiting" on your action. This is a very good time to glance left and get additional information about their intentions. As Tommy Angelo always says..."look left" before you act. You will be surprised how often other players telegraph what they are going to do.

Before I play poker I would always remind myself to do what you said as method 2. It always seemed logical to me that it was the best method. And in about ten minutes I'm doing method 1. As soon as I get excited, or anxious I just want to check my cards immediately.

I check my cards depending on my position. I don't think I give out a lot of info because if I have AA I continue chatting while 3 betting. Is that a tell? Don't know, but at those times when I was actually in a conversation playing AA, I got paid out. If I'm quiet, they get suspicious....

I was taught to check my cards last but I want to try checking them as you suggested to mix it up. I’m going to check out your website. I’ve been meaning to check it out for years. I’ve been following ur friend Matt for years on RU-vid. I been watching poker vlogs since RayZRayL an trooper where the only 2 doing it. Now Ray is MIA an I can’t learn anything from watching trooper. I’m a rec player and have been playing since 2003 this year I’m going to sign up to a learning site to take my game to next level

i've learned i have to do wats most comfortable to me, and online poker lets u see ur cards right away allowing me to focus on the info around the table with the knowledge of what im going to do right away, so i started checking my cards the moment they are dealt, keeping in mind i keep my body motions the same each time after looking. nice vid thnx

Blake I've been playing poker for 4 years now and I would consider myself fairly experienced. I always play live, with over 99% of my poker time being spent in live games. I wanted to ask what you think of looking at 1 card then the other once it is dealt to you. I understand that you will miss some information however I believe the information that is given off by hero in this situation is almost always chopped down to zero. This is because the first card doesn't change upon receiving the second card, so in my opinion I've moved the "tell" phase from looking at the cards from my hands into my head, which is much harder for the villain to read. Do you have any opinion on this? Would you consider it worthwhile to minimize information given off in exchange for less information received?

+Tryndolf Critler Nope because the average player really isn't even paying attention enough. I would almost rather increase the likelihood of getting information then potentially giving it off.

Hi I'm a beginner poker player and have a quick question: Is it smarter to bring a smaller amount of chips (actual amount I'm willing to bet) to a a table or a bigger amount of chips (more than I'm willing to bet)? I feel like both have benefits. Small amount allows me to go all in if I need to; however people will force me to do it more often, and I'll be unwilling to bet as often unless I have a premium hand. Bigger allows me to not be forced to go all in as often, and it allows me to force other people to fold by raising them and intimidating them. Just a few thoughts I had last time I went to play. Thanks for the help

+CLASH TEXAS - Clash of Clans I'm nowhere near a pro but in my opinion you should never bring more than you're willing to bet because you'll likely to end up playing on scared money. If you win a few hands, your stack is too big and you may feel scared that your large stack will go away and end up making mistakes. If you lose a few hands, you may feel that you need to earn back your initial buy-in ASAP and make rash decisions. No matter what your buy-in is, you need to always not think of it as money but as just playing chips (in some sense) instead because if you're ever scared to lose your money, good players can sense this fear in you and push you around on the table. Anyway, no matter how much your amount of chips you buy in I would recommend a minimum of 40-50 Big Blinds and make sure the total buy-in of that is what you're willing to play or 'bet' with. This would probably give you the most versatility in what you want to do. If you buy in with a smaller amount as a short stack, you are likely to make less mistakes and a short stack is relatively straight forward to play, but your opponents are likely to know this as well so it would be pretty straight forward on how to play against you and this can work greatly against you and make it difficult to earn and double up. (Unless you get lucky early and double up) Personally I play a lot of small ball poker (look it up) and I find the 40-50 Big Blinds to be a comfortable amount for me to play around with so it also depends on your preference. (30 Big Blinds is definitely the minimum though, you can get short stacked pretty fast even with this amount so it's not idea either since getting short stacked would narrow the range of plays you can do with your chips but it'll be alright if you could pick up a few small pots before losing)

It literally takes a split second to check first card and pay attention to the other players at the same time.Disagree with waiting for other players to pay attention to you.

armourdaddy805 I'm gonna have to disagree.... imo poker is most definitely a game of skill. Luck and chance plays a part but over time skill will always overcome.
