I think this episode works when The Patrick Star Show doesn’t because the turtle balances out Patrick’s personality quite well.

This episode is so underrated. Despite the fact it's a simple plot, I feel like it did a good job with the chemistry with Patrick and Tony. It was pretty well executed.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think this is the first time turtles were introduced in SpongeBob. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, Patrick was trying to battle spiders, not demons.

Always crazy to see that SpongeBob makes a new character that isn't a fish like Fred, Bubble Bass, or Old Man Jenkins. It's honestly interesting to see how they draw Sea Turtles, Cats, etc.

It would have made sense because Patrick rock seem very Hollow some times did anyone else notice that? How when his rock opens that it seem flat and all he could do was be pressed against it but really it's a walkable area

This is definitely easily my favorite plot twist in cartoon of all time. I watched SpongeBob for years and when I found out Patrick’s rock was a turtle’s shell and a sea turtle living inside, it was mind blowing.

Honestly would’ve been really cool to see Tony and Patrick essentially become housemates. Like Patrick lives UNDER Tony’s shell so it would essentially be like having someone live in your basement right? Sure Tony walks around with the shell during the day but it’s not like Patrick doesn’t go do other stuff throughout the day. As long as Tony agreed to sleep at the same place every night it would honestly work out and would ad an interesting detail to bikini bottom the Patrick has a roommate

The only thing about this is the fact that a turtle's shell isn't actually separate from their body, it IS their body. It's done for jokes in cartoons, but some people are dumb and will believe their shell can be separated from them.

Patrick was a trespasser all along... Makes sense. He was functionally living in a lawn or basement.

People complain too much about a cartoon with very little continuity, there are many episodes showing Patrick's house getting destroyed while also showing it's clearly a rock, maybe his house wasn't a turtle since Season 1, he just keeps replacing the destroyed rocks with new rocks, and then he got a turtle by mistake, the next episode, his house is a rock again.

Bout time Patrick met his match, and gets annoyed for once.

I agree that this is a good episode, and I would like to see more of tony, but there is one thing I don’t get: what is Patrick living under in future episodes? Did he find a rock to replace Tony’s shell? Or did another sea turtle fall asleep over his hole?

That was such a good ad transition, great work! You aren’t even wrong about all the sleep episodes. I remember one recent episode called Dream Hoppers that I liked. Oh and Broken Alarm, where SpongeBob used a Rube Goldberg machine to wake himself up and used the Powerhouse music along with it.

This was later forgotten. As each episode has its own continuity.

Shell games is good because both characters are a dick to each other and when we have this interactions none of them seems to be the tortured one. Also this episode had a plot, one thing moves to another, something modern spongebob often forgets "I live close to my best friend squidward and the other yellow guy"

Spongebob is the new Scooby Doo. Same formula, inconsistant lore, spin offs that alter the continuity, and loved by multiple generations

Patrick lived under a rock because he was a star fish not because he was the slowest of the group. Star fishes are just known as slow moving animals.

They could say Tony could grow it back like Krabs, and have the big shell grow back over the course of a couple episodes where Tony borrows Krab's carapace, Patrick stays at Spongebobs house , or maybe Tony is introduced to Spongebob, the possibilities!

If I'm not mistaken Patrick rock has been broken Before So my theory is It was a rock at 1 point but after it broke He got a new 1Because if I'm not mistaken in the episode where Patrick has his sister didn't she break his rock Meaning he did have a rock but I guess after that broke he got a turtle shell by accident instead

Yeah that’s such a cool idea. It takes something that you think you know about the show and turns it on its head in a way that isn’t intrusive to already established show concepts.

It really isn’t the best twist since it removes the best joke of the series tho. That Patrick is so dumb, that he lives under a rock! It just ruins it

This is one of my favorite episodes of season 12. Squidward title drops an awesome season 2 episode, Patrick drinks his sweat which is pretty funny and it's great and original overall. I hate the ending tho, even though they could have used the rock that they crashed into, they use Squidward's house. InSPONGEiac is only super underrated in the sense that no one talks about it except for LS Mark and Nathaniel Bandy who ranked the entire series and I'm glad the latter placed this as the worst of season 8 cuz Mr. Krabs is really frustrating here, he thinks that SpongeBob is an insomniac just cuz he put a tiny bit too much mustard on the patty and when he goes to Patrick for help, he obnoxiously does every wrong thing he could possibly do which makes things worse for him and he starts hallucinating, wonderful. The ending is cruel too, Krabs gets SpongeBob to cry mustard, I hate him. Sure, there's some creative animation when he sleeps but that's it.
