Thanks Randy, your constant DIY speaker builds, are driving me to build a pair myself! Found the Hivi 3.1a for on sale at $299. It's a 3 Way bookshelf, and I might buy it just for the hell of it. I've always been curious about their speakers, and this is a cheap way to experience them. So tempting to pull the trigger right now!

I built a pair of the HiVi 3.1a's a little over a year ago and they sound great! The kit, just like your 2.2a's was well packaged, and was so easy to build. The hardest part for me was the finishing. Mine are still white from the B.I.N. primer, so hopefully this summer I'll finally get around to making them look like a finished set of speakers. It would be interesting to hear how the 2.2a's compare to the CSS 2-way kit cuz I've been thinking about building a set of the CSS's but still not sure.

Ignore this if you seen me comment this already, but would really love a review of the diysg Helix. I really like these diy review videos. It costs $390 with flat packs, but base kit comes with front baffle as is, takes the hardest part of making your own box out of the equation. Has an mtm version so can be used as center for home theater application and rated down to 40hz as well. Thanks for these videos!

I just looked at the HiVi kit on Amazon. It uses pretty good looking poly caps and air core inductors, but Danny would disapprove of the sand cast resistors, lol. They also have a 3 way kit with a 6.5" Kevlar woofer, a dome midrange, and a ribbon tweeter.

i guess one could always... i don't know... buy better resistors for an extra $10 or so.

@@cheapaudioman I'm not sure they make that much difference unless you have really high end ears and equipment like Danny has. Maybe you could get some different resistors and then compare both and see if you hear a difference. That might make an interesting video too

Yeah the HiVi kits are really good. I have the 3.1A and they are efficient and sound really good. My EL34 8 watt amp has not problem driving them to window shaking levels. P.S. you make un-boxings fun!!

I put together the HyVee diy 3.1a speaker a couple years ago, first time soldiering too, but it was pretty easy. I didn't do the tweeter mod, that a lot of folks recommend, but absolutely love them the way they are.

they never got built. there was some issues getting the enclosure glued up and I never went back to working on them. They were taking up a bit more time than I wanted to give them

Hey man. I almost pulled the trigger on the c notes personally way before the channel even started. I ended up with another kit. They were about $120 a piece. I don’t exactly remember what they were. They’re still on parts express. They have the 6.5” classic Dayton woofer. I need crack them open.
