Mariah Carey to me personally is the perfect artist. She sings great, has great technique, has a huge vocal range like no other, great agility and let’s not forget she writes almost everything she sings. She even produces her music in the later half of her career and directs her music video. Absolute queen.

Too me, Mariah is the best vocalist that has ever been, though the best of her voice is gone, in her heyday that woman was possibly the best singer in the world. Mastery of the voice, almost every box was ticked off to perfection, highs, lows, agility, fluidity, support, impeccable technique, great mix, whistle register, resonance, clarity, and so on, I don’t think we’ll ever see a singer that will ever top Mariah, I sincerely don’t. Let's be real with the vocal trinity it's not a coincidence that they're all three very attractive women of their time. There were more vocally " talented " people , they just weren't marketable. If you really think with the millions of people in the world that there weren't, we're kidding ourselves. Vocal technique isn't the end all be all of vocal talent though, let's be real. If you measure who is better based on pitch, octaves and so on then you don't enjoy music. One can have better technique but that doesn't always mean anything. I mean Dimash has beats all of the women in several places but he has zero musicality or idea how to make his voice palletable to people beyond getting people impressed and shocked. Not someone anyone really listens to in their car or free time if we're being honest.

@@Tremble_And_My.Heart_Rush Well that's a ridiculous way to measure talent as well . . . because Madonna is the best selling female artist of all time and has no vocal capabilities. . . There is no merit to album sales. ESPECIALLY today because we're not in an era where albums sell. ACTUALLY for the first time in like 60 yrs, Vinyls have outsold physical CD albums. But yeah you can't compare people from those eras to digital sales eras. People have the radio and free streaming services on multiple platforms in addition to singles also being a thing.

My fave is Lara. I used to take vocal classes a long time ago, and when I played "Pas Sans Toi" to my teacher, she said: "That's your singer, she's close to your nature". By "nature" she meant range, timbre and musicality. I believe this is how we choose our faves - pure intuition, and saying that someone's SoHyang, Whitney, or Jessie J fan gut feeling is less valuable than mine would be at least inaccurate.

She has a recognizable tone. She has power, but not so much that it's overwhelming, and hard to listen to after a while. She has solid agility, but doesn't need to overdo it, and make it the focus of her performances. She has amazing musicality. Her versatility is unmatched imo. She has so many nuances, textures, and colors in her voice, and can employ them at will. Her vibrato is the perfect speed. And most importantly, she connects emotionally with everything she sings. There's a big difference between who is the best vocalist and who you personally enjoy listening to, as we all have very different musical tastes. Until Dimash Qudaibergen came along it has been impossible to compare say Luciano Pavarotti and Frank Sinatra. Most singers are limited by their vocal range and the style of music they perform. However Dimash is completely different in All aspects. He has a 7 octave range, sings in 15 different languages, sings everything from Opera to Rap all to top professional standards. There has Never ever been a singer that can do that. One top professional vocal coach said, "Dimash is the only singer I've ever heard in my entire career who has absolutely everything." He may not be everyone's favorite singer to listen to, but there is Nobody that can compare with him both technically or artistically.
@vi0lee
@vi0lee Год назад
It's funny that you say this as a layman lol. I'm not professional either, but Dimash is not even close to the best vocalists. He's a show-off singer who tries out a lot of things, genres, even languages without respect to expertism, and of course he's not in the best category in any of that. Dimash shows everything what his voice hides, when wise singers know their limits and they don't flex with it. His agility is very good, but not even close to Yma Sumac or Debelah Morgan. His mix becomes strident and thin in the 5th octave, not even close to gospel singers. His head voice is amazing, but not even close to opera trained soprano singers. His whistle is squuezed and barely controlled, not even close to Mariah's. Trying out a lot of genres doesn't make you versatile, you have to train for years to become a pro even if it's just one genre. What musicality are you talking about when he's 28, having like 10 (don't know actually) own songs and a lot of uncreative covers? And so on and so force.

@@vi0lee There was no need to mention that you are not a professional, it is obvious from the verbal diarrhoea written here. Dimash has 20 years of academic training, including classical music, of course, he took part in competitions, won competitions, and won countless prizes, he has a doctorate in composition and musical direction. He is not conformist and mediocre, he is still studying. Whether you like it or not, he is the most gifted singer in terms of technical versatility and has the great ability and ingenuity to use whatever he wants to use to give a higher interpretative quality to the song he wants to present to the audience. Apart from being a multi-instrumentalist, singing in 13 languages, an actor, and a recent composer. And yes, at 28 years old he has more professionalism and musicianship than all the singers you mentioned and could mention, simply because they are pigeonholed in their own digestible style that many of their own style can achieve, there you have pop singers, gospel singers, jazz singers, methal singers, etc etc etc. But not one of the popular style singers, not even in the recording studio could with all the technical challenges sing decently an S.O.S., Unbridled Passion, Stranger, Story of a Sky (his recent masterpiece, which has been selected in the category of best short film in one of the top 10 film awards worldwide). Surely in your ignorance you think it's a piece of cake to combine diametrically opposed techniques (classical and contemporary), Or to go from 3 to 4 techniques in a single phrase in a fraction of seconds, adding classical vibrato of 3 semitones, increasing its difficulty. And neither the agility of Yma Sumac, Maria Galvani, or any male or female Opera singer could perform the Ogni Pietra. That sets it apart from the crowd. Pd Get it in your chip, the more technically versatile a singer is, the more information is required to analyse him/her.( complexity) Goodbye

Thought-provoking assessment! There is no "Best Vocalist Ever". There are certain vocalists that are considered as "The greatest vocalists of all time". Eg. Whitney, Luther, Mariah, Michael Bolton, Celine, Freddie Mercury, Lara, David Phelps, Lisa Fischer, Dimash, Sohyang, Steve Perry and of course pioneers like Aretha, Otis Redding, Barbra, Frank Sinatra, Patti, Little Richard etc. At a certain point of greatness, it becomes a point of diminishing returns to argue about who "the best vocalist of all time" is. Edit: With that being said, if the *Vocal Trinity* was combined into one vocalist (like a Dragon Ball Z fusion character, Mariline Elizangelette Hionrey) I wonder what she would really be lacking to be rightfully considered the "best vocalist".

I agree. I do sometimes fantasize about the ultimate singer who can do it all, but sometimes I also think that the reason as to why Whitney, Celine, Mariah, and all of the other greats were so loved was because they sounded fully formed, with all the advantages and drawbacks that come with that. I remember Whitney Houston being interviewed in 1999: "My mother said, 'you watch the best if you want to be the best. You have to watch what they do, and then incorporate that into your own and not be that - not be that person.' There will never be another Aretha, there will never be another Barbra - there won't be another me."

I'm sorry but the people didn't crown Mariah the most agile singer ever for nothing, her runs are unique to her and only her can do them, you may think they lack precision because you don't hear all the notes but it's only because they're so damn fast !! And in terms of musicality, they're unbeatable, when you slow down the run and break it down to all the notes it contains and try to play them on a piano, you'll hear magic. Plus what makes Mariah the most agile one is the fact that she's agile on every single register ! I mean when you listen to the run that she does at the end of her cover of the Def Leppard song "Bringin' On The Heartbreak", you'll understand, her agility in the 6th and 7th ocatves is incredible and that particular run sounded like an electric guitar and it was so on pitch. You talked about the "Lead The Way" run, what made that run so special is not only its speed, it's also the fact that she hit a resonant F#5 (or an F5 idr) and went down with precision, musicality, breath control and pitch all at once !!! It's very difficult to keep an eye on all these parameters while singing
@uncoolartist358
@uncoolartist358 Год назад
@@allykelly Exactly what I was thinking! It's when the weight is lesser where one can be more agile, we can notice the same thing with Whitney switching to head voice too when her agile moments are featured. On the other hand, powerful,resonant yet complex runs are lowkey one of Celine's signature style. I've been immersing myself with these vocalists for the past years and tried to sing their runs every now and then and I find it harder to do Celine runs with accuracy than Mariah's. The run from The Reason is harder for me to do than the one in Lead the Way.

The word "perfect" and "best" are utopian terms, and when we are talking about utopia, we are talking about something that can only be imagined. That being said, I completely agree on picking favorites on a subjective basis, and people have their favorites because the singers they admire are somehow able to connect to them via their voice and music in general. For me, I have a few favorites for a few completely personal reasons. Here they are: Ariana Grande: She is the epitome of eden singing. I felt like I was hallucinating stuff while watching her Positions album's live performances. Demi Lovato: She definitely doesn't get the recognition she deserves(imo). Her different eras and album backgrounds resonate with the inconsistency of our lives. Sometimes we are CONFIDENT, sometimes we are insecure and just ask someone to say "TELL ME YOU LOVE ME" . And at times we realize that we have been living the wrong life and have been making wrong decisions, and thus we want to "START OVER", and then we realize how perfect we were and that is a metaphor for Demi going back to her roots with Holy FVCK. Oh did I ,mention she is up there with the BEST belters ever? Her power and soulful belts can crack glass menageries and can pierce through everything. Lady GAGA: She embodies self confidence and power. A literal definition of hard earned fame. She showed us how being "weird" is also being ICONIC. Taylor: I don;t think I need to explain much. Her songwriting skills, thats it....Its more than enough...

THIS IS A GREAT VOCAL ANALISYS. THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT VOICES WITH GREAT SKILLS THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PICK JUST ONE. ACCORDING TO THE REPERTOIRE IVE HEARD OF EACH SINGER (AND IT'S QUIET A LOT) - I WOULD PICK CELINE DION OVER THE REST.SHE IS SOOOO VERSATILE THAT SHE CAN DELIVER ANY STYLE OF SONG, AND GENRA, LIKE NO OTHER OF THIS LIST. EVEN WHEN ITS POP, JAZZ, LATIN, CLASSICAL, MUSICAL THEATRE. SHE IS CONSISTENT IN ALL OF THEM.AND BESIDES HER VOICE, HER STAGE PRESENCE IS UNIQUE. HER POWER CAN FILL AN EMPTY STAGE. - I LOVE ARETHA BECAUSE SHE STARTED IT ALL IN POP/SOUL MUSIC, VOCALLY SHE WAS THE QUEEN OF RIFFS AND RUNS BUT EVEN WITH SOUL. SADLY SHE'S TOO SHADY FOR MY TASTE. - BARBRA STREISAND APPEARED IN THE WORLD OF MUSIC A DIFFERENT SOUND, HER VOCALS IN THE 60'S HAD NO COMPARISSION WITH ANYONE ELSE. AND IT ALL IS SUPPORTED BY AN INCREDIBLE ACTRESS AS SHE IS. SO HER FEW LIVE SHOWS WERE INCREDIBLE TO WATCH. SHE'S KIND OF BITCHY TOO. SAD ABOUT IT. - WHITNEY CHANGED THE GAME TOO, LIKE ARETHA AND BARBRA DID. HER SONGS WERE SEXY, CLASSY AND SO HARD TO SING, BUT SHE WAS SO VOCALLY POWERFUL, AND HER STAGE PRESENCE WAS A DIVA STANDING. SO SAD DRUGS RUINED HER. AND SHE WAS A LITTLE SHADY TOO. - MARIAH CAME WITH AS A SONGWRITER AND VOCAL PHENOMENON, HER FRESH LOOKS AND VOCAL SKILLS HELPED HER TO HIDE HER LACK OF A STAGE PRESENCE. SHE HAS THE BEST BALLADS TO HEAR. SADLY NOWADAYS THAT HER VOICE HASNT BEEN THERE FOR SO LONG, ALL YOU SEE IS A POOR PERFORMER ON STAGE, THAT ALMOST LOOKS DRUNK OR HIGH. AND FOR ME SHE IS THE SHADIEST OF THEM ALL, WHICH IS REALLY ANNOYING. THE SINGERS THAT WE HAVE ON VOGUE TODAY LIKE BEYONCE, ADELE, ARIANA, ARE REALLY GOOD VOCALISTS BUT THEY HAVENT REACH THAT SAME CATEGORY AS THE REST. EVEN WHEN THEY HAVE MORE GRAMMY OR SALES THAN THE REST. IT'S SO MUCH THINGS TO CONSIDER AND THEY'RE JUST NOT THERE YET.

Some people really have a deep obsession with technique and putting their bias above everyone. Most of the time people are just giving there opinions including people who claim to be vocal coaches. Here is the facts though, technique doesn't sell albums, majority of the world don't care about that they just like who sounds good to them and makes good music. Nobody cares about technique besides obsessive fans who feel the need to put their favs above everyone to make themselves feel better 🙄 just enjoy the voices and music that speaks to you and quit with the over analyzing about technique 😂 that isn't gonna make me wanna buy your music.

My favorite singer is probably Florence Welch. She just has never released a song I didn't at least like, but even just based on vocals alone. She finds ways to make where she is going vocally unpredictable, fresh, unexpected. There is a flourish or nuance and storytelling to everything. I've never heard anyone sing quite how she does. She uses her voice like an instrument and understands fluctuation, climax, how to build and how certain tones can give a shift that just bring an entire ambience. I don't think anyone brings whimsy in such a diverse way that she does. From how she attacks her mid ranged belts to the round and flutteriness of her vibrato. Her voice is full of contrast, color, brightness, darkness, femininity and even androgyny at times. Florence is a really nice shift and change from a lot of singers that to me are . . . I recognize them as talented but . . . vanilla or bland. I know how a lot of the " typical girls " are going to sing it, how they'll approach it vocally, where it will go and it's never interesting.

I think you can determine the best vocalist by using a base critera for each register and aspect of the voice and how much control they have over their voice in the mix and head registers. for instance sopranos should at least be able to support down to F3 in their lower register, any lower is a bonus. They should at the very least be able to accurately produce complex vocal runs both scaling up and down. should have excellent breathe control to be able to produce complex crescendos and diminuendos at any point in performance, They should be able to maniuplate their voice in a way that they can produce full resonance from the start of their mix to atleast A5 and be in complete control to be able to place the resonance anywhere change the shape of the vowel and basically be in control of their dynamics and be able to transition purely from a breathy headvoice to a pure head voice up to C6/D6 at least to a full chest belt as high as say G#5 with full balanced resonance and just be able to change their voice in a healthy manner for any type of performance. I'd say the closest to a perfect vocalist is SoHyang. Shes able to really do anything with her voice at an excellent level, agility can be trained but you can spend years and not sound like avery wilson or tori kelly but you would be able to surpass their supported ranges lol. Sohyang isn't just a great vocalist because she can support a C#6 in her mix but because she can control every facet of her voice in every key a soprano would typically sing to a complex and excellent level.

Why the perfect/best vocalist doesn't exist, from a physiological standpoint, is determined based on every vocalist's unique anatomical structure. No vocalist has an anatomical structure that can allow them to near flawlessly replicate all various voice types. The closest example to a near perfect vocalist, an "unconventional" vocalist, would be someone like Rachel Ferrell or Tonex/B. Slade. A perfect vocalist would have an expansive strong range and musicality. Is immensely versatile as versatility shows the lack of limitations that pure technical singers like Barbra Streisand have. Therefore, the ability to replicate all singing styles and vocal techniques. Can do an assortment of deeply technical singing with proficiency and mastery: Immense breath control, expansive musical phrasing, extreme dynamic control, stamina, intricate and fluid agility, vocal texture manipulation (even at the extremes of the voice: whistle register), etc etc.. Essentially I believe a "chameleonic" vocalist is what would fit the category of best. However, the most subjective quality that ends this discussion is the subjectiveness of tone.. Many great singers who are not appreciated by certain people merely because of their tone.. Singers with little to no technical mastery who are regarded as the best simply because of tone..
@yoelle16
@yoelle16 Год назад
I agree with you in regards to selecting the best No one is perfect because no human can ever be perfect. There can only be the best. The best is not based on the criteria of tone. The best is the best despite having people who don't like his/her tone or does not like him/her. Period!!!

I've been saying a lot of these things for ages. But also there are people, especially fans of the vocal trinity who are just ideologues and you just shouldn't bother having a conversation with them. If you can't admit your favorite has flaws or weak points that's just unreasonable and unrealistic. and when it comes to people saying well " Surely _____ is better because of ____ technique " , uhm . . . technique is based on a theory to begin with and if all you're looking for in music is how great someone's pitch is and where that note is on a keyboard then do you even enjoy music? It can be INTERESTING or IMPRESSIVE, but if that is what you seek out to find out if ___ is better than ____ you don't enjoy music and that's a very boring and dull outlook for unintelligent and immature people. Especially given most of them will STILL debate that Mariah - Whitney and Celine are the greatest singers of all time. Because well, it's untrue. It's NOT a coincidence that all three of these women were EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE WOMEN of their time? It's just not. They were selected not just for their talent, but because they were marketable that's just a fact of the industry. In addition to that, music should be art. You can of course bring technique into art, but technique does not ensure you'll make a masterful painting. Look at Whitney Houston's performance of the national anthem, it's impressive because everything is technique-wise immaculate but it's fucking awful. Cher, who is a far less accomplished VOCALIST mops the floor with her tenfold because Cher understood the assignment when she performed the national anthem Where as Whitney mixed vocal stylings dozens of times creating something that sounded more like a shock value, vocal testing showcase or RU-vid challenge than a PIECE. and the thing is with art . . . technique can obviously be useful but it doesn't ensure you'll make a great piece. When we look at Art MASTERS we remember, they aren't usually ones that showcase what people measured art on in the past saying that hands and eyes or perfect circles were the sign of a true master. In fact we remember those with lacking technique or who stray from it and set trends. So I don't believe Whitney Houston for example( not to shit on her again ) will be remembered by this generation's grandchildren for example. Where as I believe we WILL remember less successful people such as Kate Bush. Whitney Houston brought nothing to music other than being an amazing vocalist for her time, but those come and go. Xtina is already fading for example. Where as Kate Bush pioneered use of the Fairlight CMI, the first earpeice mic was created for her due to her innovative style of performance. We can't look in Indie or Indie-pop music specifically amongst women and not find that 90% of artists in that area are inspired by her or someone heavily influenced by her whether they know it or not. Whitney was simply great at following trends and was a vocal chameleon from decade to decade who could sing anything and it sound good. Singing is more than range, more than pitch, more than technique. Because there are artists out there who insist Mariah - Whitney - Celine are the best even when you show them people who beat them in all these areas. Because they have a preference. I mean look at Dimash, he is guilty of the same RU-vid Challenge singing I mentioned prior. There is a reason why he isn't insanely loved, it's because once the shock and being impressed wears off he doesn't have the musicality nor is he easy to listen to and the Vocal Trinity fans recognize that. They just don't realize they're hypocrites clinging to some vocal elitism that they can't even keep to.

You're right. These talents shouldnt be compared but admired while they coexist and provide extraordinary performances to the world of music. But sill there are some basic skills you need to have to be considerated a good singer. Even tho there isnt a "perfect vocalist" there are many horrible ones lol. I agree that anyone can sing but it doesnt mean anyone who can sing is a true singer. We have many singers who have no notion of music, cant get into the key or rythym and have 0 stage presence. The artists in this video are only great cuz they come from a background that required a lot of dedication from them. Today all you need to have is an autotune. People are getting used to singers who cant barely sing their own songs.

So you asked off course! MORISSETTE ASIAS PHOENIX) she’s been in the business for over a decade. Not fortunate enough to be born in North America, not winning any Singing competition , living in a difficult country that literally everyone knows how sing ( Philippines ) and still has a support from her country men as well as international. 26 years old she’s absolutely vocally demand and the most expensive voice in Asia right now 💯🇨🇦not too mention she’s the best live band vocals on stages performance. And you can find this on her RU-vid channel or in RU-vid. And her bag of talent at least multiple and very deep Each time she perform she’s getting better and better Yaahh. Thank you for asking ✌️

For me and in my opinion the best,the number one,and the one and only is absolutely and undoubtedly King Angel Dimash..And not only like singer/artist,but also like vocalist,performer,and showman..And Dimash is also the most versatile singer in existence and in history..No one can compare and compete with him,and no one can beat and surpass him..Or better,only Dimash can beat and surpass himself..Dimash,his voice,and his music are art of high level and quality..King Angel Dimash forever

Whitney is the best belter ever imo. I just love her belts. The most complete vocalist I've ever heard is probably Celine Dion or Lisa Fischer tho.

Aretha Franklin comes close, but I actually prefer Nippy's chesty approach. Yet, it's not an objective fact but a matter of taste

Aretha Franklin is the Greatest of All Time. And her only peer is Ella Fitzgerald. But you have to make the distinction between great voice and greatness in the Art of singing. It's the combination of Voice, Musicianship and Artistry.
