My friend had a code enforcement officer come for her chickens and tell her she couldn't have them. She picked one up and cut its neck without breaking eye contact with the guy. He got physically sick and told her to stop and that he would never come back. It's been 8 trouble free years for her.

"Code Enforcement" is rampant right now in our community. About a year ago, people were getting notices and fines out of nowhere. Pro-tip. NEVER buy a home in an HOA.

The crazy thing is I've done this. And then physically threw them off my property. Being told they would come back with the law. I said fine but you better have a search warrant with you or your still not getting in. This was pure gold my friend.

Anyway, comedic value aside, I guess I'm confused about a few things (and I'm completely new to this, so just want to understand). How big of an issue is this sort of thing? Is it local to your area or versions of it are everywhere? In the video, you said HOA - but your place doesn't strike me as being part of a HOA. in fact, most people who would go down the path you're on I wouldn't think would be part of an HOA. Are these things coming from local laws, county laws, or state laws? Thanks for the info.

Great advice, which I WILL use. What I've been doing- here in Australia- with mall security, is when I go shopping, I wear my face daiper over the top of my head. When they say to put it on, I tell them I identify as a porpoise; and as such I do all my breathing through the top of my head. That way, they either laugh and move along, or they think "this poor man is insane" and leave me alone. It saves me having to tell them the real reason I am not wearing it: because "no, because I SAID SO".

About 40 yrs ago my mom worked for a bank. Part of the job was that you needed to have your finger prints taken. Her fingers never made good prints no matter how much they tried. One day they called her to do it again and she complained "Why are you doing this to me? Is it because you see my Sicilian last name you think I'm part of the Mafia?" They never bothered her again. Have a Farm Biosecurity plan in writing, as well as clear signage "Biosecurity Program in Effect" @ all entrances to the property. No one is allowed in our animal areas unless they follow our biosecurity protocols. It would be a public relations nightmare for any municipal contractor/staff that traipses around our property without my consent. Cameras will catch them, and the vids will be posted for all the world to see. This video is great - thanks for the laughs. 😆

I had one code enforcement officer tell me I needed to get my kids toys out of my yard cause it made the neighbors fancy new houses in old neighborhood look trashy. I told him get off my property. He complained to neighbor cross street about bi. Y old lady. Neighbor was my son who came over the fence at him. He run real quick to his truck 😁

I heard Ashville mentioned (thinking you're referringto Ashville, NC) . We absolutely hated our recent trip to Ashville. I'm sure there's plenty other cities like it but we met nothing but snobs & snowflakes there. We live lower down in the foothills of NC & absolutely love our little town. No HOAs here. Only helpful, caring & wonderful neighbors all around us. Heaven forbid a code enforcer ever came here. They'd leave either crying or confused, but they'd leave. What they do is bullying plain & simple. We look at it this way. You leave us alone, we'll leave you alone.

Too funny, but actually I think any animal can be an emotional support animal. I saw something about people taking chickens and snakes on airplanes as ESA. You can't risk loosing your ESA and being without, so the bull is your ESA and the sheep are emotional support animals in training. Gotta have backup's. The rooster is your travel ESA because the bull can't be go on planes, LOL.

Never invite them onto your property. Never argue with them. It's not a pissing contest here. It's your property which is private, not public. Its an administrative procedure you must perform on like they will do onto you. Code enforcement is supposed to regulate commercial property UNDER CONTRACT with the city municipality, county or state government. Do a FOIA request to see the file they created on your property (both paper and electronic) and I guarantee you that they will classify your private as commercial property to gain jurisdiction. If not challenged (no one knows what code people are doing to challenge them anyways as it's on paper or a computer in a file which you never see until you ask for it) it becomes the tool they use to leverage "complaince" out of you. Never invite them onto your property, never... always post up signs all over your property, send them correspondence via certified mail advising them to not trespass and put them on notice that if they do, a penalty of $ _______

@@rodrickcampbell8817 you're not to be concerned with a file name. A FOIA request is what you are after. A Freedom Of Information Act Request aka A Public Records Request. There are sample templates online for FOIA request letters. Look into the laws, don't just read a comment online and go based upon what you read on social media. Never take anyone's word, always do your own due diligence so your convictions are unshakeable. Study the law and everything pertaining to FOIA reauests so you know you are doing it correct and they are following the law.

I wrote a lot of info and it is best to read it over and over until it clicks, or not. It's the same with reading the law.. read it over and over and over until it clicks. Same with your local government ordinancees, your jurisdictions court rules of evidence, rules of procedure, judicial conduct and attorney ethics. Know that inside and out so you are prepared. Question: if you are requesting ALL documents to review that they have on file which pertain to your property through your FOIA request, don't you think ALL documents would include the one you would want to see that reflects your property being classified as commercial? Ask for the whole file, problem solved and you need not worry about specific document name, as I stated to you the first time I replied to you. Question: What makes you think that I know what your local municipality is calling a specific document? 🤔

When I lived in the city I had to deal with the city code people constantly. I caught them on video surveillance knocking over my lumber pile that was for a deck I had a permit for, and a stack of bricks for a walkway. Between that and the threat of lawsuit for violations to my 4th and 5th amendment rights, I didn't have as many issues after that.

When we lived in the big city, my husband planted climbing roses on trellis’ on either side of the walk way from the sidewalk to our front porch…about 6 ft in from sidewalk. the neigbor complained and code enforcer said we couldn’t have anything in our front yard over 4 ft high. except living plants/hedge etc . the climbing roses were legal but the wooden lattice trellis had to go. I read somewhere on you tube that a grandma had a beautiful flower garden but she planted one tomato plant. code enforcers made her remove the tomato, because it was “agriculture” which was a code violation.. The real violation is that these code makers and enforcers salaries are paid with taxpayers $$.

I looked for land for years before I found property. Our POA isn't like this at all. Their responsibility is to maintain our private roads. The only enforcement is the number of dwellings allowed to prevent communes. The county has no building codes either. So building alternative housing is not an issue. There is no requirement for hooking up to the grid. If you are willing to move, there is land out there that has little to no governance. There are downsides though. Some people move out here and trash their property. That trash ends up blowing onto my land sometimes. That really is the only issue I have had so far. Well, the elk can be noisy during rutting season.

@@honeycaffena4897 oh no, dont get me wrong, pigs are a great addition , you get soooo much from them and , depending on breed, easy to care for - the ' lard ' alone is worth it - I like the IPP 's - Idaho Pasture Pigs because of the snout - they dont root up big holes and are like goats in that they graze well in woods cleaning it up for future use and fertilize it ta boot - pigs are great

Growing-up, my babysitter's husband always had pigs and chickens. They lived in the county. When I was in my late teens, I went to visit them As we were talking, he said the co zoning commissioner notified him he can no longer have chickens because his land got rezoned...AFTER all them years. He went to their office and literally asked him if he just looked at a map to make the rezoning decision. The commissioner told him that is exactly what he done. My friend explained to him he always owned chickens and wasn't about to change. Needless to say, the property got zoned back and the chickens remained, at no cost to my friend.

I was cracking up at this, and not missing living in Buncombe county! Our farm is in Watauga County but fortunately if you’re outside of the city limits of Boone they’re VERY hands off, praise the Lord! My husband has straight up used the nuclear option before. 😂

I love this video we had Persian parrots aka chickens in a duplex in California in the city. This made me laugh we got away with it 🤣😅🤣 and they happily left LOL thank you for this I needed that this evening

We don't live in an HOA but we actually had a police officer come to our door and ask if we had a rooster. I said yes 😒 and he said well we've been having complaints and I said we'll who is it bc all my neighbors are fine with it and he said he didn't have to tell me who. When I said fine I'll just stick him in the pot tonight for dinner, he then said well you don't have to kill it you can buy a collar for it. I said well if I buy a collor than it's a pet and I don't eat my pets!🤣 He also later revealed that they had to drive around to find out where the rooster was (my yard is fenced in) so then that tells me it wasn't any of my neighbors complaining close by bc they would have known..ridiculous!
