Informative. Short. Perfect. I watched a video of you pricing a leaf job years ago, and not get taken by poorly quoted jobs. I liked that but since you've been a desk jockey in your many endeavors, I really enjoy the information delivered in a quick manner and a believable & proven history of running businesses. But your energy is the reason why it works so well, not so much the constant issues with the guys in the vans... God bless them. Thanks for the free tips!

I have read your comment at least 3 times now and wasn't sure how to respond until now so here goes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about how I do my videos. It helps me understand my audience much better for sure. on another note, If you get a chance, were doing a Expo in Louisville Kentucky for the Mosquito Police, October 17th - 20th, please stop by our booth so I could meet you that would be awesome !

Omg I love you lol I don’t know why you came up but I love you live been in the business for thirty two years and I haven’t herd the name gravely in so long I was taught my first job on one a sixty inch deck the thing was a monster. After a few hours on it I just loved the guy I don’t think gravely is common up here in Canada. And I have always done my blades the same way as you have! Omg you speak to me ha ha it’s hard being female in this business even now but I saw your video and I was like oh he’s speaking to me.

How often do you sharpen them? I’ve heard anything from once a month to once a day

It really depends on if you run into obstacles like piles of rocks or dirt, if that's the case you need to sharpen them as soon as possible. But typically will go two to three days before sharpening our blades. Here's how you know when to sharpen them, when they stop cutting the grass properly , or you have to slow down to get a decent cut.

Thats what I do to the wife. I lock it into my body, I watch for the shine, If I am off I tilt it a bit but as soon as I find whats working I put my weight into it. I know it works on her should be good for the mower. Haha could not help myself. Great video as usual.

Good video George 👍After 10 years , I still use an angle grinder on my blades. I prefer an 80 grit flap disk or sandpaper style disc. It works well for me🤷‍♂️Sometimes I'll check to see if my blades are balanced. Just to see if I'm way off.
@GPackard
@GPackard 2 года назад
I'm going to have to try that with the whole 80 grit flap disc.

Totally agree with you on balancing. I prefer using sanding disk 36grit works good or 60grit. Makes a nice edge without taking off too much material.

I'm going to have to try that out thanks for commenting and sharing with others that's how we learn.

If you can’t afford an ‘American blade sharpener’ jig. Then George’s method is the way to go. But the jig is a lot better because it does what you’re doing, but holds the angle for you so it’s alway 30 degrees. I agree that those other machines that have their own motors are a waste of money and ultimately a waste of space and gimmicky.

Well I appreciate you, commenting happy, I used to have one of those key word there is used to. I found it my way is much quicker and given the amount of work that we have time is money.

Same exact way we do them.... No need to waste time balancing or buy $500 blade grinders. When you're doing half a dozen machines with three blades each, you can waste a considerable amount of time for no reason.

Time is money. The faster the better. I have never balanced a blade. When I was younger I tried to sharpen and balance and got no where. Took an hour of grinding and it still wasn't balanced. Only time a blade will shake you to death is when it's bent but it's trash by that point anyways. Great video... And damnit Jeremiah. You made a good video but I'm sure George was screaming at you off camera for something hahahaha

@@GPackard my cousin has a construction business and he hired a guy named Jeremy that he calls Jeremiah. He could be working on something then stop and out of the blue he says DAMNIT JEREMIAH! Hahaha reminds me of you. It's absolutely hilarious

With balancing your blades 1st blade of grass 1st little stick you hit their unbalanced. So like you said absolutely NO bouncing, maybe a 100 years ago you needed too but not today or yesterday. I usually use paddle wheel. I fine the other disk will Shatter and explode everywhere. I think one year I will spend the money and buy one of the rbg's but damn the price. I may have to come work over time with you to pay for it.
