Mel Hall's name became a dark mark in baseball history. His sexual assault crimes were so vile that he received a 45-year prison sentence, with a minimum of 22 years and 4 months!
Melvin Hall Jr. was a baseball player who played in the MLB from 1981 to 1992 with teams like the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, and New York Yankees. He also had a stint with the San Francisco Giants in 1996 and played in Japan from 1993 to 1995. Known mostly as an outfielder, Hall’s career was overshadowed by his criminal actions. On June 17, 2009, he was sentenced to 45 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two minors!
But before we go on with all the details, make sure to subscribe!
During spring training in 1989, he made a splash by checking both his wife and his girlfriend into the same hotel. Things got really awkward when the two women ended up fighting by the pool, with the whole scene unfolding for everyone to see. Later that year, after being traded to the Yankees and sidelined with a pulled hamstring, Hall didn't miss a beat in his quest for drama.
He ended up in a rough wrestling match with teammate Rickey Henderson right in the clubhouse. To top it all off, there was even a report that Hall brought a gun into the Yankees' clubhouse. While these antics were often seen as just part of Hall's eccentric personality, he himself brushed it off as simply "me being Mel Hall."

In 1984 and in 1987, I saw Hall hit 2-run homers in Kansas City. I don't know what the Major League record is for longest trek around the bases, but it's likely that Hall holds it. He practically walked around the bases.

I'm still trying to make sense of the Derek Jeter photograph during the Jim Leyritz quote.
