Mixing low-end can be TOUGH, but Getting a tight low end mix is ESSENTIAL for ending up with a dance floor banger, and these 12 Steps will help you get a PERFECT low end mix (kick and bass) every time you use them - regardless of track or genre.
If you’ve ever wondered “how do I mix low end?”, this technique is what I’ve developed to help me over the course of producing thousands of tracks and mixes. If your ears struggle to focus on the low end (as mine do), these techniques will help you simplify mixing your kick and bass and break it down into a step-by-step process WITHOUT the need to just “trust your ears” 🤦‍♂️.
🙌 Huge shout out to my Accelerator student - @9WorldsMusic - who’s brand new collab with @CultureCodeMusic and Medyk is OUT TODAY! Listen here and support if you dig - it’s a banger! lowly.ffm.to/culturecode-9wor...

Again a very good one. After I learned the bass decay tuning to release energy the tracks got much better
@Gnurklesquimp2
@Gnurklesquimp2 Год назад
It's easy to overdo it sometimes, but after a while it gets a lot better. My speaker port was broken for a long time so I made music on some terrible speakers, I went back to check everything I made on that, and the kick adsr was by far the biggest overal issue. It made me realize something, though... It can be worth it to keep more decay/sustain/release on other frequencies, depending on the kind of kick and track. In most house kicks etc. it's mostly just the lows that last long anyway, but for hiphop, for example, it can be a way to keep some of the character of those kicks even in tracks where they shouldn't dominate the low end. Of course, it's also common to layer sounds with multiple sources, a real kick drum's ~300hz + with some nice sustain over a tight bassy kick is great for mixing in an organic sound, for example. Noise can also be great, as usual!
@nebukad1833
@nebukad1833 Год назад
Thanks for sharing here. I agree to kick adsr. I‘m using good headphones + sound Id reference plugin to finally hear the details, which was impossible before in my untreated room and monitors.

@@EDMTips I'm not a professional, I'm just trying to compose music at an amateur level... I've long experienced problems with the sound of my music at high volume levels and I didn't know how to solve them... Great video. I think that with a plugin like Adptr from plugin alliance you can do all this routing easier. But it is good to see another way to do it💪

@EDMTips At 9:50 you open two SPANs. If you are able to route 2 Tracks into the same SPAN you can benefit from its "multi-channel analysis": "SPAN supports multi-channel analysis, and can be set to display spectrums from two different channels or channel groups at the same time. Spectrum's color can be chosen to taste." This might come handy.

Usually I just take bass sounds and kick sounds and cut between 150 to 200hz out of them and cut a little bit of the high mids from other sounds like strings (the high pitched aliasing just makes it sound worse) so my vocals can come through without interference

Would linear phase eq be more ideal when splitting your bass into different bands? Great vid

Great Information as always ! Thank you! Do you use any form of headphone correction like sonarworks with the hd650s? I recently bought them and I am still adjusting to the lack of subs on them coming from ATHm50x which are closed back and have much deeper bass. I would appreciate your insight on this. Correction or getting used to how they sound

nice video ! how do you sustain that balance through out your own mastering process ? if you put a compressor on the master, the volume relation of kick and bass is going to change right ?
@SpikeColgate
@SpikeColgate 7 месяцев назад
Compressor on master bus should always generally not working too hard and not effect an already reasonably balanced track too much. And if you've balanced it well, then high passing the compressor to leave the bass alone is worth doing too.

Hey, your videos are amazing! I am wondering how to handle things like parallel processing when performing live... how do you handle the sends and and returns? Presumably you use return tracks for sending out to channels. And how much stereo widening do you try to do for live performance?

@ EDM TIPS I am trying to make a hardstyle kick which uses alot of severe eq and distortions. I have a reference kick of how I want to create my kick to sound. If the reference kick fundamental is peaking at -30 on SPAN. Should I eq boost the same fundamental of my kick to -30 aswell? And should I eq all the frequency levels of my kick to the same level of the reference kick showing in span?
