Trolling motor is probably still the most important tool on the boat. Can't tell you how many times as a rider my bait was waking behind the boat because we are going 4 MPH on the trolling motor.

Awesome tips, as usual! Thanks! I never know how to use the Troilling motor speed. I don't have a fancy one, just a 55 lb force trolling motor. If I use the high speed, the batteries deplete within 4+ hours, so I tend to use a lower speed to conserve the batteries. So I tend to use a speed for battery conservation, not for fishing efficiency. I know that's wrong. But I don't fish enough to get that good at using the trolling motor. I can't afford the Power poles, so I guess I need to get better since the boat will always be moving.

Great tip, but another one that's VERY important, and that is not to pulse your motor when running any length of cover like grass or rip-rap... keep it a constant speed, just dialed appropriately. If you've ever tried to do bird photography from a vehicle, you will know exactly what I'm talking about... a bird, especially larger birds of prey, will sit in a tree or on a pole and watch traffic go by all day long, but as soon as you stop the vehicle, they will usually bolt within seconds. They get spooked easily by that change.

Tournament fishing is all about time management. But bass fishing, itself, does not have to be mostly about time management. What I have found is that a trolling motor on too high of a speed will absolutely blow fish out and away from the boat. I have seen this over and over. You will almost always disturb fewer fish at a lower speed setting and by keeping that motor in the deepest water that makes sense for where you are and what you are doing (technique).

I always say the most important skill in bass fishing is boat control.

When you are not fishing a tourney, there is a courtesy speed and courtesy to the angler in the back to leave come cover, leave some distance for your coangler not to be crammed on the bank also. Otherwise running a trolling motor is practice and common sense

You probably already know. This is why crappie fisherman now put two trolling motors on the rear of the boat. You can haul ass and stop on a brush pile without blowing them out. Bust out another 2-3k pal 😂 this is for live scoping too lol
