Great discussion Dr. Pal and Skinner. I would like to add some based on my experience taking care of patients in my practice. A healthy diet is an essential part of living a long and healthy life. There's no doubt that fiber intake should be taken seriously, but it's just as important to focus on getting enough whole-food sources of fiber, which come from vegetables, legumes, nuts, and fruits. Sadly, the average person in India consumes far fewer than the recommended five cups of vegetables per day. That said, how you prepare your food matters too! When heating food for cooking or stir-frying, if it’s cooked too long then some of the beneficial compounds can be lost. Let's try to keep stir-fry times short for maximum health benefits - especially when using higher-fiber options like cabbage poriyal, beans fry etc. One of the things I would like to emphasize is it is important that patients do understand the importance of strength training. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends at least two times per week trying to focus on full body. Sometimes we don't have time to do a split workout and I usually will recommend full body workout focusing on major muscle groups. The studies are showing that improved cardiovascular fitness are associated longevity. So it's not just the BMI that is more important. It is also the fitness which is measured by Vo two Max is also really important. When I was growing up we used to have a lot of prebiotic foods such as the fermented rice, a fermented dosa, unfortunately these are all decreasing. The consumption is decreasing. And these are some things that we need to start promoting. I hope this message was helpful

Dear doc I am an Ayurvedic doctor and nutritionist.I want to highlight that what now called circadian rhyme was told thousands of years back.The food according to ruthu(season)ruthucharya accordingly day and night ,night laghu aahara(light diet) beautifully told.They always say food aahara vihara and aachara(food excercise and certain disciplines) are the three pillars of our health. The bottom line is hitha buku,mitha buku and kaala buku(buku means eating) Please if you have time go through ayurvedic books for your reference sir since you care for the society so much😊

Well said Dr. It was our way of life several years back, but now education, technology all have changed our lifestyle. And so are lifestyle related diseases. We spare less time to eat our meal, sleep, exercise.

Thank you doctor last time I got 🙏 from you my grandmother is 105 alive grandfather 108 alive all are there we eat veg food ghee curd milk by 3clock afternoon curd ghee and fruits stopped evening 2 pukka with one sabji we stop eating after 5 30 evening till next day thank you for great information

Hi Pal, I start fasting at 8pm and end at 12pm (16/8). In the morning, I drink one cup of green tea and black coffee without sugar. I am not thinking more about the calorie deficit during the eating period but I eat only two meals. This is good?

Dr. Pal, Thank you for your time for us. I have NASH. I try all the diet, nothing working on me. I am kind of mentally fed up. I eat American diet regular days - off days Indian diet. I have constipation issues too. My question is what would you like to recommend natural body detox include liver detox? I prefer to do once in a month. I really want my liver back to normal. Please.

Have you tried low-carb diet with intermittent fasting. If the fatty liver is due to insulin resistant and obesity, this will beautifully reverse the fatty liver and you can see improved blood test results as early as three months.

Hey doctor, I know you read comments so here it is. I'm a radiologist n I see fatty liver day in n day out more in younger males , even school kids . Women are relatively spared . Even very obese ones . I see even occasional lean men with fatty liver .

Hii sir, I got diagnosed with GERD 1 year back, and as precaution measure, had made several lifestyle changes to mitigate it. Like small portion meal every 3-4 hrs. Due to this i had been gaining weight with BMI 28. Also had a family history of obesity and cardiac failure. Plzz advise some suggestion. Thank you Eagerly waiting to hear from your side. Hello Sir, I really appreciate the work you’re doing for mankind. I just started doing intermediate fasting and u had told that we should not even taste a pinch of food or anything in between fasting. So can I brush as soon as I wake up, does toothpaste also spike something in body as it contains sugars.

In Fasting window, you can only have water as doc Pal mentioned in other videos. Initial days if you want you can add a little lemon juice to water (without sugar), so that you can extend fasting period a little more. Once you get used to your Fasting window, better to have only water in Fasting period.

I did ask you a question few days ago. Here in Boston sun rise at 4 am and sets only by 8.30 pm So should I still stick to Old routine or can I extend my eating window (though I eat less than 1400 cal p/d)

Keep the same duration of fasting (14 or 16 or 18 hours) but you can move the fasting window to fit the lifestyle and activities in summer. Eat dinner at least 3 hours before bed.

I am doing intermittent fasting and my eating window is from 10 am to 4 pm. and i do workout at night from 9.30 pm to 10.30 pm which include strength training. Absolutely not. But yes, make sure they're done with dinner by 7. It's a good habit which most kids will keep till at least college, because basically you're the one providing food till then. Inculcate the habig of eating some sort of veggies before meal. Also, do monitor the quantity, not just undereating, but also overeating. This is coming from someone who was obese at the age of 5. Kids look very cute when they eat a lot, and they may eat a lot because they're praised for eating more as well. My suggestion, portion out the food and praise them for finishing the food given, not for just eating more. Also, gibe them a variety of foods.
